Abstract

Embodiments of the present disclosure provide methods, systems, apparatuses, and computer program products for digital content auditing in a group based communication repository, where the group based communication repository comprises a plurality of enterprise-based digital content objects organized among a plurality of group-based communication channels. In one embodiment, a computing entity or apparatus is configured to receive an enterprise audit request, where the enterprise audit request comprises an audit credential and digital content object retrieval parameters. The apparatus is further configured to determine if the audit credential satisfies an enterprise authentication protocol. In circumstances where the audit credential satisfies the enterprise authentication protocol, the apparatus is configured to retrieve and output digital content objects based on the digital content object retrieval parameters, receive a violating digital content object identifier, and replace a violating digital content object with a temporary digital content object based on the violating digital content object identifier.

Claims (35)

1. One or more non-transitory computer-readable media storing computer-executable instructions that, when executed by a processor, cause the processor to perform a method for ensuring retention of digital content in a group-based communication system, the method comprising:

associating a digital content retention policy with the digital content in the group-based communication system;

receiving a digital content object from a client device associated with the group-based communication system;

identifying the digital content object as a retention-flagged digital content object based on digital content object retention parameters associated with one or more group-based communication channels associated with the group-based communication system, wherein the digital content object retention parameters are selected from among first digital content object retention parameters for messages and second digital content object retention parameters for messaging attachments that are included in a plurality of digital content object retention parameters, wherein the selection indicates the first digital content object retention parameters or the second digital content object retention parameters, and wherein the selection is made in response to a determination as to whether the digital content object is a message associated with the group-based communication system or an attachment to messaging associated with the group-based communication system; and

in response to determining the digital content object is a retention-flagged digital content object, preventing attempted alteration of the retention-flagged digital content object.

2. The non-transitory computer-readable media of claim 1 , wherein a flag associated with the retention-flagged digital content object is selected from one of a do not edit (DNE) and a do not delete (DND) flag.

3. The non-transitory computer-readable media of claim 1 , wherein the method further comprises:

monitoring the one or more group-based communication channels for data objects that match the digital content retention policy.

4. The non-transitory computer-readable media of claim 3 , wherein the client device is prevented from altering the retention-flagged digital content object within a predetermined time window.

5. The non-transitory computer-readable media of claim 4 , wherein after expiration of the predetermined time window, permitting altering of the retention-flagged digital content object.

6. The non-transitory computer-readable media of claim 4 , wherein after expiration of the predetermined time window, permitting deletion of the retention-flagged digital content object.

7. The non-transitory computer-readable media of claim 1 , wherein the digital content object is a group-based communication message.

8. A method for ensuring retention of digital content in a group-based communication system, the method comprising:

associating a digital content retention policy with the digital content in the group-based communication system;

receiving a digital content object from a client device and storing the digital content object in a memory associated with the group-based communication system, the memory associated with one or more group-based communication channels;

identifying the digital content object as a retention-flagged digital content object based on digital content object retention parameters associated with the one or more group-based communication channels, wherein the digital content object retention parameters are selected from among first digital content object retention parameters for messages and second digital content object retention parameters for messaging attachments that are included in a plurality of digital content object retention parameters, wherein the selection indicates the first digital content object retention parameters or the second digital content object retention parameters, and wherein the selection is made in response to a determination as to whether the digital content object is a message associated with the group-based communication system or an attachment to messaging associated with the group-based communication system; and

preventing attempted alteration of the retention-flagged digital content object.

9. The method of claim 8 , wherein a flag associated with the retention-flagged digital content object is selected from one of a do not edit (DNE) and a do not delete (DND) flag.

10. The method of claim 8 , wherein the method further comprises:

monitoring the one or more group-based communication channels for data objects that match the digital content retention policy.

11. The method of claim 10 , wherein the client device is prevented from altering the retention-flagged digital content object within a predetermined time window.

12. The method of claim 11 , wherein after expiration of the predetermined time window the retention-flagged digital content object may be altered.

13. The method of claim 11 , wherein after expiration of the predetermined time window the retention-flagged digital content object may be deleted.

14. The method of claim 8 , wherein the digital content object is a group-based communication message.

15. A system comprising at least one processor and at least one non-transitory memory storing computer executable instructions that when executed by the at least one processor cause the system to carry out actions comprising:

associating a digital content retention policy with digital content in a group-based communication system;

receiving a digital content object from a client device and storing the digital content object in a memory associated with the group-based communication system, the memory associated with one or more group-based communication channels;

identifying the digital content object as a retention-flagged digital content object based on digital content object retention parameters associated with the one or more group-based communication channels, wherein the digital content object retention parameters are selected from among first digital content object retention parameters for messages and second digital content object retention parameters for messaging attachments that are included in a plurality of digital content object retention parameters, wherein the selection indicates the first digital content object retention parameters or the second digital content object retention parameters, and wherein the selection is made in response to a determination as to whether the digital content object is a message associated with the group-based communication system or an attachment to messaging associated with the group-based communication system; and

preventing attempted alteration of the retention-flagged digital content object.

16. The system of claim 15 , wherein a flag associated with the retention-flagged digital content object is selected from one of a do not edit (DNE) and a do not delete (DND) flag.

17. The system of claim 15 , wherein the actions further comprise:

monitoring the one or more group-based communication channels for data objects that match the digital content retention policy.

18. The system of claim 17 , wherein the client device is prevented from altering the retention-flagged digital content object within a predetermined time window.

19. The system of claim 18 , wherein after expiration of the predetermined time window the retention-flagged digital content object may be altered.

20. The system of claim 18 , wherein after expiration of the predetermined time window the retention-flagged digital content object may be deleted.
