Abstract

Systems, methods, and computer-readable media are disclosed for smart infrastructure data transfer. An example system is provided with a processor and a memory storing computer-executable instructions that are executed by the processor. The processor sends, over a network, a first software image to a first smart device of a system of smart devices to update a first group of smart devices of the system; and performs a discovery process to identify a second group of smart devices of the system. The second group of smart devices being based on a number or type of smart devices accessible on the system. The processor also creates a second software image including a software update for the second group of smart devices; and sends, over the network, the second software image to the first smart device to update the second group of smart devices.

1. A method comprising:

sending, over a network, a first software image to a first smart device to update a first group of smart devices of a system of smart traffic infrastructure devices;

performing a discovery process to identify a second group of smart devices of the system of smart traffic infrastructure devices, the second group of smart devices comprising those smart devices of the first group of smart devices that are connected and accessible on the system at the time of the discovery process;

modifying the first software image to create a second software image including a software update for the second group of smart devices; and

sending, over the network, the second software image to a second smart device to update the second group of smart devices,

wherein:

the second smart device comprises one or more devices of the smart traffic infrastructure system, and

the first smart device comprises one or more vehicles that are configured to distribute data to devices of the smart traffic infrastructure system while within communication range of the smart traffic infrastructure system.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the first group of smart devices is a number of smart devices connected in the system during or after an initial installation of smart devices in the system.

3. The method of claim 2 , wherein the second group of smart devices further includes and any smart devices added to the system after the initial installation.

4. The method of claim 2 , wherein a number of smart devices of the second group of smart devices is smaller than a number of smart devices included in the first group of smart devices.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the discovery process comprises:

sending one or more requests to each smart device of the first group of smart devices; and

categorizing any smart device of the first group of smart devices that fails to respond to the one or more requests as being inaccessible on the system.

6. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

sending a request for service to be performed on any smart device of the first group of smart devices categorized as being inaccessible on the system.

7. A system comprising:

a processor; and

a memory storing computer-executable instructions, that when executed by the processor, cause the processor to:

send, over a network, a first software image to a first smart device to update a first group of smart traffic infrastructure devices of a system of smart traffic infrastructure devices;

perform a discovery process to identify a second group of smart traffic infrastructure devices of the system of smart traffic infrastructure devices, the second group of smart devices comprising those smart devices of the first group of smart devices that are connected and accessible on the system at the time of the discovery process;

modify the first software image to create a second software image including a software update for the second group of smart traffic infrastructure devices; and

send, over the network, the second software image to a second smart device to update the second group of smart traffic infrastructure devices,

wherein the first smart device comprises one or more vehicles that are configured to distribute data to any of the smart traffic infrastructure devices while within communication range of those traffic infrastructure devices, and

the second smart device comprises one or more devices of the smart traffic infrastructure system.

8. The system of claim 7 , wherein the first group of smart traffic infrastructure devices is a number of smart traffic infrastructure devices connected in the system during or after an initial installation of smart traffic infrastructure devices in the system.

9. The system of claim 8 , wherein the second group of smart traffic infrastructure devices further includes any smart traffic infrastructure devices added to the system after the initial installation of the first group of smart traffic infrastructure devices.

10. The system of claim 8 , wherein a number of smart traffic infrastructure devices of the second group of smart traffic infrastructure devices is smaller than a number of smart traffic infrastructure devices included in the first group of smart traffic infrastructure devices.

11. The system of claim 7 , wherein the computer-executable instructions further cause the processor to:

send one or more requests to each smart traffic infrastructure device of the first group of smart traffic infrastructure devices; and

categorize any smart traffic infrastructure device of the first group of smart traffic infrastructure devices that fails to respond to the one or more requests as being inaccessible on the system.

12. The system of claim 7 , wherein the computer-executable instructions further cause the processor to:

send a request for service to be performed on any smart traffic infrastructure device of the first group of smart traffic infrastructure devices categorized as being inaccessible on the system.

13. A non-transitory computer readable medium including computer-executable instructions stored thereon, which when executed by one or more processors, cause the one or more processors to perform operations of:

sending, over a network, a first software image to a first smart device to update a first group of smart traffic infrastructure devices of a system of smart traffic infrastructure devices, wherein the first smart device comprises one or more vehicles configured to distribute data to the smart traffic infrastructure system while within communication range of the smart traffic infrastructure system;

performing a discovery process to identify a second group of smart traffic infrastructure devices of the system, the second group of smart traffic infrastructure devices comprising those smart devices of the first group of smart devices that are connected and accessible on the system at the time of the discovery process;

modifying the first software image to create a second software image including a software update for the second group of smart traffic infrastructure devices; and

sending, over the network, the second software image to a second smart device to update the second group of smart traffic infrastructure devices while within communication range of the second group of smart traffic infrastructure devices, wherein the second smart device comprises one or more devices of the smart traffic infrastructure system.

14. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 13 , wherein the first group of smart traffic infrastructure devices is a number of smart traffic infrastructure devices connected in the system during or after an initial installation of smart traffic infrastructure devices in the system.

15. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 14 , wherein the second group of smart traffic infrastructure devices further includes smart traffic infrastructure devices added to the system after the initial installation.

16. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 14 , wherein a number of smart traffic infrastructure devices of the second group of smart traffic infrastructure devices is smaller than a number of smart traffic infrastructure devices included in the first group of smart traffic infrastructure devices.

17. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 13 , wherein the computer-executable instructions further cause the processor to perform operations of:

sending one or more requests to each smart traffic infrastructure device of the first group of smart traffic infrastructure devices; and

categorizing any smart device of the first group of smart traffic infrastructure devices that fails to respond to the one or more requests as being inaccessible on the system.

18. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 13 , wherein the computer-executable instructions further cause the processor to perform operations of:

sending a request for service to be performed on any smart traffic infrastructure device of the first group of smart traffic infrastructure devices categorized as being inaccessible on the system.

19. The method of claim 1 , wherein modifying the first software image to create the second software image comprises dynamically reconfiguring the first software image based on the smart traffic infrastructure devices in the second group of smart traffic infrastructure devices.
