Abstract

Systems and techniques are described for providing control of a monitoring system. In some implementations, a monitoring device is located in a building and is configured to monitor at least a portion of the building based on output from one or more sensors. A monitoring server is located remote from the building and is configured to communicate with the monitoring device. The monitoring server may be configured to translate one or more parameters received from a client device into an interpreted monitoring script and a trigger that causes performance of the interpreted monitoring script. The monitoring device may include an interpreter configured to determine that the trigger has been met and initiate performance of the interpreted monitoring script to evaluate a monitoring rule in accordance with one or more configurable parameters.

Claims (73)

1. A computer implemented method comprising:

determining, for a detected event that occurred at a property, that the event satisfies a rule that i) indicates one or more actions to perform following detection of the event at the property and ii) was generated using an analysis of a parameter used to control a device at the property and information in a template that translates input to executable instructions; and

in response to detecting the event that satisfies the rule, executing, using a trigger that associates the rule with the event, an instruction for the rule to cause the device to initiate the one or more actions.

2. The method of claim 1 , comprising:

determining the parameter used to control the device at the property;

processing the parameter against information in the template that translates user input to executable instructions;

in response to processing the parameter, generating a customized rule used to initiate the action following detection of the event at the property; and

generating the instruction that includes the customized rule.

3. The method of claim 1 , comprising:

receiving, from a monitoring device, a specification;

determining, using the specification, one or more templates for the monitoring device;

providing, to a user device and using the one or more templates, instructions to cause presentation of a user interface depicting:

a list of conditions that the monitoring device is capable of detecting; and

a list of actions that the monitoring device is capable of taking.

4. The method of claim 3 , comprising:

receiving, from the user device, data indicating user input into the user interface; and

updating the instructions using the data.

5. The method of claim 1 , comprising:

selecting, from a plurality of monitoring instructions and using data that identifies the event, the instruction to execute in response to the event.

6. The method of claim 1 , comprising:

determining a configuration of a monitoring system for the property; and

transmitting, using the configuration, the instructions to one or more devices from a plurality of devices at the property.

7. The method of claim 1 , wherein:

the trigger identifies a change in state of a component of the property; and

determining that the event satisfies the rule comprises determining, using the trigger, that a state of the component changed and satisfies the change in state identified by the trigger.

8. The method of claim 1 , wherein:

the trigger associates the event with each of two or more customized rules, each of which customized rules have a corresponding instruction; and

executing the instruction comprises, in response to determining that the trigger is satisfied, executing each of the two or more instructions for the two or more customized rules that the trigger associates with the event.

9. A system comprising one or more computers and one or more storage devices on which are stored instructions that are operable, when executed by the one or more computers, to cause the one or more computers to perform operations comprising:

determining, for a detected event that occurred at a property, that the event satisfies a rule that i) indicates one or more actions to perform following detection of the event at the property and ii) was generated using an analysis of a parameter used to control a device at the property and information in a template that translates input to executable instructions; and

in response to detecting the event that satisfies the rule, executing, using a trigger that associates the rule with the event, a instruction for the rule to cause the device to initiate the one or more actions.

10. The system of claim 9 , the operations comprising:

determining the parameter used to control the device at the property;

processing the parameter against information in the template that translates user input to executable instructions;

in response to processing the parameter, generating a customized rule used to initiate the action following detection of the event at the property; and

generating the instruction that includes the customized rule.

11. The system of claim 9 , the operations comprising:

receiving, from a monitoring device, a specification;

determining, using the specification, one or more templates for the monitoring device;

providing, to a user device and using the one or more templates, instructions to cause presentation of a user interface depicting:

a list of conditions that the monitoring device is capable of detecting; and

a list of actions that the monitoring device is capable of taking.

12. The system of claim 11 , the operations comprising:

receiving, from the user device, data indicating user input into the user interface; and

updating the instructions using the data.

13. The system of claim 9 , the operations comprising:

selecting, from a plurality of monitoring instructions and using data that identifies the event, the instruction to execute in response to the event.

14. The system of claim 9 , the operations comprising:

determining a configuration of a monitoring system for the property; and

transmitting, using the configuration, the instructions to one or more devices from a plurality of devices at the property.

15. The system of claim 9 , wherein:

the trigger identifies a change in state of a component of the property; and

determining that the event satisfies the rule comprises determining, using the trigger, that a state of the component changed and satisfies the change in state identified by the trigger.

16. The system of claim 9 , wherein:

the trigger associates the event with each of two or more customized rules, each of which customized rules have a corresponding instruction; and

executing the instruction comprises, in response to determining that the trigger is satisfied, executing each of the two or more instructions for the two or more customized rules that the trigger associates with the event.

17. A non-transitory computer storage medium encoded with instructions that, when executed by one or more computers, cause the one or more computers to perform operations comprising:

determining, for a detected event that occurred at a property, that the event satisfies a rule that i) indicates one or more actions to perform following detection of the event at the property and ii) was generated using an analysis of a parameter used to control a device at the property and information in a template that translates input to executable instructions; and

in response to detecting the event that satisfies the rule, executing, using a trigger that associates the rule with the event, a instruction for the rule to cause the device to initiate the one or more actions.

18. The computer storage medium of claim 17 , the operations comprising:

determining the parameter used to control the device at the property;

processing the parameter against information in the template that translates user input to executable instructions;

in response to processing the parameter, generating a customized rule used to initiate the action following detection of the event at the property; and

generating the instruction that includes the customized rule.

19. The computer storage medium of claim 17 , the operations comprising:
