Abstract

Systems are provided for generating data representing electromagnetic states of a heart for medical, scientific, research, and/or engineering purposes. The systems generate the data based on source configurations such as dimensions of, and scar or fibrosis or pro-arrhythmic substrate location within, a heart and a computational model of the electromagnetic output of the heart. The systems may dynamically generate the source configurations to provide representative source configurations that may be found in a population. For each source configuration of the electromagnetic source, the systems run a simulation of the functioning of the heart to generate modeled electromagnetic output (e.g., an electromagnetic mesh for each simulation step with a voltage at each point of the electromagnetic mesh) for that source configuration. The systems may generate a cardiogram for each source configuration from the modeled electromagnetic output of that source configuration for use in predicting the source location of an arrhythmia.

Claims (48)

1. A method performed by one or more computing systems for displaying cardiac information, the method comprising:

accessing extracted cycles from a cardiogram;

for each of a plurality of pairs of extracted cycles, generating a first similarity score indicating similarity of the extracted cycles of that pair;

identifying a first collection of extracted cycles that are similar to each other based on the first similarity score of pairs of extracted cycles;

accessing a library of library cycles, each library cycle associated with a source location within a heart;

for each of a plurality of library cycles, generating a second similarity score indicating similarity between that library cycle and the extracted cycles of the first collection;

selecting library cycles based on the second similarity score indicating a similarity with the extracted cycles of the first collection;

generating a three-dimensional (3D) graphic representation of a heart and source location indicators derived from the source locations associated with the selected library cycles; and

displaying the generated graphic representation.

2. The method of claim 1 wherein the extracted cycles are atrial fibrillation cycles extracted from one or more T-Q intervals of the cardiogram.

3. The method of claim 1 wherein the extracted cycles are ventricular fibrillation cycles extracted based on QRS complexes of the cardiogram.

4. The method of claim 1 wherein the cardiogram is collected during an arrhythmia of the heart.

5. The method of claim 1 wherein the cardiogram is derived from simulations of electrical activations of hearts having different configurations.

6. The method of claim 1 wherein the library cycles include cycles derived from cardiograms collection from a plurality of patients.

7. The method of claim 1 wherein the library cycles include cycles of simulated cardiograms derived from simulations of electrical activations of heart having different configurations.

8. The method of claim 1 wherein the first similarity score and the second similarity score are based on a Pearson correlation.

9. The method of claim 1 wherein multiple collections of extracted cycles that are similar to each other are identified and the first collection of extracted cycles is the collection with the largest number of extracted cycles that are similar.

10. The method of claim 1 wherein the graphic is the 3D graphic is generated using a 3D computer graphics software tool.

11. The method of claim 1 further comprising running simulations of electrical activity of a heart based on various source configurations of a heart, a source configuration indicating a source location of an arrhythmia; and generating the library cycles based on the simulations of electrical activity.

12. The method of claim 1 wherein the first similarity score and the second similarity score are based on a cosine similarity.

13. The method of claim 1 further comprising providing an indication of a source location to an ablation device for automatic positioning of the ablation device to target the source location.

14. The method of claim 13 wherein the ablation device is a stereotactic body radiation therapy device.

15. The method of claim 1 further comprising positioning an ablation device to target a source locations and activating energy of the ablation device to perform an ablation targeting that source location.

16. A method performed by one or more computing systems for displaying cardiac information, the method comprising:

accessing extracted cycles from a cardiogram;

identifying a collection of extracted cycles that are similar to each other;

retrieving, from a library of library cycles, library cycles that are similar to the extracted cycles of the collection, each library cycle associated with a source location within a heart; and

displaying a representation of a heart and source location indicators derived from the source locations associated with the retrieved library cycles

wherein the identifying of a collection includes applying a clustering technique to identify clusters of similar extracted cycles.

17. The method of claim 16 wherein the clustering technique is a k-means clustering technique.

18. A method performed by one or more computing systems for determining a type of cardiac arrhythmia, the method comprising:

extracting cycles from a cardiogram representing a cardiac arrhythmia based on successive crossing of a zero voltage axis of the cardiogram in a specified direction;

for each of a plurality of pairs of extracted cycles, generating a similarity score indicating similarity between the extracted cycles;

identifying one or more collections of the extracted cycles wherein the extracted cycles of a collection are similar to each other based on the similarity score;

identifying the type of cardiac arrhythmia based on the number of extracted cycles in each collection;

identifying a source location of the cardiac arrhythmia based on the extracted cycles in a collection;

generating a three-dimensional (3D) graphic of a representation of a heart that includes an indication of the source location and the type of the cardiac arrhythmia; and

displaying the 3D graphic of the representation of the heart.

19. The method of claim 18 wherein the identifying of the type of the cardiac arrhythmia and the source location are based on the collection with the largest number of extracted cycles.

20. The method of claim 19 wherein the extracted cycles are extracted from one or more T-Q intervals of the cardiogram and wherein the identifying of the type of cardiac arrhythmia identifies an atrial fibrillation when the largest number is less than a threshold number that is derived from the total number of extracted cycles.

21. The method of claim 19 wherein the extracted cycles are extracted from one or more T-Q intervals of the cardiogram and wherein the identifying of the type of cardiac arrhythmia identifies an atrial flutter when the largest number is more than a threshold number that is derived from the total number of extracted cycles.

22. The method of claim 19 wherein the extracted cycles are extracted based on QRS complexes of the cardiogram and wherein the identifying of the type of cardiac arrhythmia identifies an atrial fibrillation when the largest number is less than a threshold number that is derived from the total number of extracted cycles.

The method of claim 19 wherein the extracted cycles are extracted based on QRS complexes of the cardiogram and wherein the identifying of the type of cardia arrhythmia identifies an atrial tachycardia when the largest number is more than a threshold number that is derived from the total number of extracted cycles.

24. The method of claim 18 wherein the cardiogram is collected from a patient.

25. The method of claim 18 wherein the cardiogram is a simulated cardiogram derived from a simulation of electrical activity of a heart.

26. The method of claim 18 wherein the similarity score is based on a Pearson correlation.

27. The method of claim 18 wherein the similarity score is based on a cosine similarity.

28. The method of claim 18 wherein the cardiogram is a vectorcardiogram.
