Abstract

Methods, apparatus, and systems for performing an ophthalmic diagnostic test are disclosed. In one aspect, a head-wearable device for administering an ophthalmic test to a subject can comprise a head-wearable frame for mounting the device onto the subject's head, and a light seal configured for coupling to the frame so as to isolate at least one eye of the subject from ambient light when the device is worn by the subject.

Claims (33)

1. An ophthalmic testing system for administering at least one ophthalmic test to a test subject, the ophthalmic testing system comprising:

a wearable frame comprising:

an optical interface configured to optically couple an eye of the test subject to an image plane presented to the eye via the wearable frame; and

a light source;

a provider interface coupled to the wearable frame;

a processor coupled to the wearable frame and the provider interface;

a memory coupled to the processor; and

one or more computer programs stored in the memory and configured to be executed by the processor, the one or more programs including instructions that upon execution:

display a menu of a plurality of ophthalmic tests provided by the ophthalmic testing system, wherein the ophthalmic tests comprise a visual field test, a dark adaptation test, a color vision test, a contrast sensitivity test, and a visual acuity test;

receive a selection of the ophthalmic test from among the plurality of ophthalmic tests for administering to the test subject; and

in response to the selection of the ophthalmic test:

control the light source to generate a fixation light and present a fixation point within the image plane, the fixation point being configured for focusing attention of the test subject during the ophthalmic test;

generate a first audible command, via the wearable frame, to instruct the test subject to focus her gaze on the fixation point;

control the light source to generate a stimulus light and present a stimulus area within the image plane;

generate a second audible command, via the wearable frame, to instruct the test subject to provide one or more psychophysical responses indicating observation of the stimulus area;

receive the one or more psychophysical responses indicating observation of the stimulus area from the test subject;

analyze the one or more psychophysical responses to determine whether the test subject continues to provide a response, this determination indicating whether the test subject requires guidance to complete the ophthalmic test;

in an event the test subject requires the guidance, provide the test subject with additional audible commands via the wearable frame, wherein the additional audible commands comprise: continuing to focus gaze, continuing to provide psychophysical responses, and keeping the eye open.

The ophthalmic testing system of claim 1 , wherein the one or more programs further include instructions that upon execution determine whether modifying a configuration of the ophthalmic testing system brings the ophthalmic test closer to the test baseline, and adjust the configuration of the ophthalmic test.

3. The ophthalmic testing system of claim 2 , wherein the configuration comprises a length of the ophthalmic test and the one or more programs further include instructions that upon execution extend the length of the ophthalmic test.

4. The ophthalmic testing system of claim 1 , wherein in response to selection of the dark adaptation test, the processor is configured control the light source to emit a photobleaching light configured to photobleach a photopigment of the eye.

5. The ophthalmic testing system of claim 4 , wherein the stimulus light is configured to stimulate the eye after photobleaching with the photobleaching light.

6. The ophthalmic testing system of claim 5 , wherein the photobleaching light is presented in a photobleaching area within the image plane.

7. The ophthalmic testing system of claim 6 , wherein the photobleaching area is larger than the stimulus area.

8. The ophthalmic testing system of claim 7 , wherein the processor is coupled to a communications network and is configured to communicate with a remote entity via the communications network.

9. The ophthalmic testing system of claim 8 , wherein the remote entity comprises a cloud-based record folder.

The ophthalmic testing system of claim 9 , wherein the remote entity comprises a provider interface configured to at least one of: send data to the system, receive results of the ophthalmic test from the system, interpret ophthalmic test data, provide ophthalmic test interpretation, collect information from the system, and report test results information.

11. The ophthalmic testing system of claim 1 , wherein the provider interface is coupled to the wearable frame via a wireless connection.

12. The ophthalmic testing system of claim 11 , wherein the wireless connection comprises a Bluetooth® connection.

13. The ophthalmic testing system of claim 1 , wherein the provider interface is configured for use by a clinician in providing the ophthalmic test to the test subject.

14. The ophthalmic testing system of claim 13 , wherein the selection comprises two or more ophthalmic tests for administering to the test subject.

15. The ophthalmic testing system of claim 14 , wherein the two or more ophthalmic tests are administered in a serial order.

16. The ophthalmic testing system of claim 13 , wherein the provider interface is configured for use by the clinician in selecting the eye of the test subject from between the test subject's eyes for testing.
