Abstract

Apparatuses, methods, and systems are disclosed for indicating a packet data unit session as unavailable. One apparatus includes a processor that determines that at least one packet data unit session is unavailable. The apparatus includes a transmitter that transmits information indicating that the at least one packet data unit session is to be released.

Claims (23)

1. A method of a session management function, the method comprising:

receiving a first request message comprising an indication that a protocol data unit session is to be released locally in the session management function;

determining to delete a protocol data unit session context in the session management function;

transmitting a second request message comprising an indication to release the protocol data unit session; and

transmitting a response message in response to the first request message.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the first request message is received from an access and mobility management function.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the second request message is transmitted to a user plane function associated with the protocol data unit session and comprises a session release request message.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the first request message comprises a session identifier indicating the protocol data unit session.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the first request message is a release session management context request message, a session release message, or a session update message.

6. The method of claim 5 , wherein the first request message further comprises a cause value or a cause type that indicates the protocol data unit session to be released.

7. The method of claim 1 , wherein the first request message further indicates whether a user equipment corresponding to the protocol data unit session is reachable.

8. An apparatus comprising a session management function, the apparatus further comprising:

a receiver that receives a first request message comprising an indication that a protocol data unit session is to be released locally in the session management function;

a processor that determines to delete a protocol data unit session context in the session management function;

a transmitter that:

transmits a second request message comprising an indication to release the protocol data unit session; and

transmits a response message in response to the first request message.

9. The apparatus of claim 8 , wherein the first request message is received from an access and mobility management function.

10. The apparatus of claim 8 , wherein the second request message is transmitted to a user plane function associated with the protocol data unit session and comprises a session release request message.

11. The apparatus of claim 8 , wherein the first request message comprises a session identifier indicating the protocol data unit session.

12. The apparatus of claim 8 , wherein the first request message is a release session management context request message, a session release message, or a session update message.

13. The apparatus of claim 12 , wherein the first request message further comprises a cause value or a cause type that indicates the protocol data unit session to be released.

14. The apparatus of claim 8 , wherein the first request message further indicates whether a user equipment corresponding to the protocol data unit session is reachable.
