Abstract

An outdoor camera integrated into an alarm system for property monitoring, configured to monitor a property. The alarm system can have a base station that communicates with all the components of the alarm system, such as an outdoor camera, which can be equipped with an imaging sensor and software capabilities to conduct analysis on data collected by the outdoor camera to determine information about a human or non-human visitor at the property. The outdoor camera provides information about detected events at the property to the base station, where the data can be used to take appropriate action at the property and communicate with either the user or a monitoring service.

Claims (89)

1. A system, comprising:

at least one processor; and

at least one non-transitory computer-readable medium encoded with instructions which, when executed by the at least one processor, cause the system to:

determine, while the base station is in the armed state, a first triggering event at a property;

determine, based at least in part on first image data acquired by an imaging device of the camera, that a known visitor is at the property;

based at least in part on the known visitor being at the property, configure the base station to enter an alarm state if the base station is not disarmed within a first period of time following the first triggering event;

determine, based on the value, that the likelihood exceeds a threshold; and

based at least in part on the likelihood exceeding the threshold:

cause a notification to be sent to a computing device, the notification causing the computing device to display a subset of frames of the third image data corresponding to the event; and

establish at least one communication channel between the computing device and a component of the camera, the at least one communication channel being configured to enable the computing device to display video acquired by the imaging device and facilitate communications between a user of the computing device and a person in a vicinity of the camera.

5. The system of claim 2 , wherein that at least one non-transitory computer-readable medium is further encoded with additional instruction which, when executed by the at least one processor, further cause the system to:

determine that at least a first frame of the third image data represents a face; and

configure the notification to identify the first frame.

6. The system of claim 2 , wherein that at least one non-transitory computer-readable medium is further encoded with additional instruction which, when executed by the at least one processor, further cause the system to:

determine that at least a first frame of the third image data represents a person; and

configure the notification to identify the first frame.

7. The system of claim 2 , wherein the at least one non-transitory computer-readable medium is further encoded with additional instruction which, when executed by the at least one processor, further cause the system to:

use the base station, to cause the notification to be sent to the computing device; and

establish the at least one communication channel between the computing device and the component of the camera such that the at least one communication channel bypasses the base station.

8. A method comprising:

determining that a base station, which is different from a camera, is in an armed state;

determining, while the base station is in the armed state, a first triggering event at a property;

determining, based at least in part on first image data acquired by an imaging device of the camera, that a known visitor is at the property;

based at least in part on the known visitor being at the property, configuring the base station to enter an alarm state if the base station is not disarmed within a first period of time following the first triggering event;

determining, while the base station is in the armed state, a second triggering event at the property;

determining, based at least in part on second image data acquired by the imaging device, that an unknown visitor is at the property; and

based at least in part on the unknown visitor being at the property, configuring the base station to enter the alarm state if the base station is not disarmed within a second period of time following the second triggering event, the second period of time being shorter than the first period of time.

9. The method of claim 8 , further comprising:

detecting an occurrence of an event at the property;

determining, based at least in part on third image data acquired by the imaging device, a value indicating a likelihood that the event relates to criminal activity at the property;

determining, based on the value, that the likelihood exceeds a threshold; and

based at least in part on the likelihood exceeding the threshold:

causing a notification to be sent to a computing device, the notification causing the computing device to display a subset of frames of the third image data corresponding to the event; and

establishing at least one communication channel between the computing device and a component of the camera, the at least one communication channel being configured to enable the computing device to display video acquired by the imaging device and facilitate communications between a user of the computing device and a person in a vicinity of the camera.

10. The method of claim 9 , wherein:

determining the value is performed by one or more components of the camera.

11. The method of claim 10 , wherein:

causing the notification to be sent to the computing device is performed by the base station.

12. The method of claim 9 , further comprising:

determining that at least a first frame of the third image data represents a face; and
