Abstract

An apparatus including a first cartridge, a sensor, and a controller. The first cartridge can include a first release device configured to release a first substance into a housing. The controller can be configured to receive data from the sensor. The controller can determine an amount of first substance released by the first cartridge based on the data. The first release device can be controlled based on the determined amount of first substance.

Claims (29)

1. An inhalation device configured to control operation of a release device configured to release a substance contained in a cartridge, the inhalation device comprising:

a controller configured to control operation of the release device; and

a timer configured to measure duration of airflow through the inhalation device for each puff;

wherein the controller is configured to turn off the release device when the measured duration of airflow reaches or exceeds a limit value.

2. The inhalation device according to claim 1 , further comprising a sensor configured to detect one or more of an airflow, a temperature change, a pressure change, illumination of light, a current change, and a voltage change.

3. The inhalation device according to claim 2 , wherein the sensor is at least one of an airflow sensor, a thermocouple, a pressure sensor, a shock sensor, a sound sensor, or a microphone.

4. The inhalation device according to claim 2 , wherein the timer is configured to be activated by the sensor.

5. The inhalation device according to claim 2 , wherein the timer measures a puff duration while the sensor is activated.

6. The inhalation device according to claim 1 , wherein the limit value is set as a total time allowed for airflow through the inhalation device within a given period of use.

7. The inhalation device according to claim 1 , further comprising a cartridge that contains a substance configured to be released by the release device.

8. The inhalation device according to claim 1 , further comprising a cartridge including a release device and a substance configured to be released by the release device.

9. The inhalation device according to claim 1 , wherein the controller is configured to prevent turning on the release device during a shut off time following the measured duration of airflow reaching or exceeding the limit value.

10. An inhalation device configured to control operation of a release device configured to release a substance contained in a cartridge, the inhalation device comprising:

a controller configured to control operation of the release device;

a timer configured to time an airflow through the inhalation device that passes through an inlet hole and an outlet hole of the device;

wherein the controller is configured to turn off the release device when the timed airflow reaches or exceeds a limit value.

11. The inhalation device according to claim 10 , further comprising a sensor configured to detect one or more of an airflow, a temperature change, a pressure change, illumination of light, a current change, and a voltage change.

12. The inhalation device according to claim 11 , wherein the timer is configured to be activated by the sensor.

13. The inhalation device according to claim 10 , further comprising a cartridge that contains a substance configured to be released by the release device.

14. The inhalation device according to claim 10 , further comprising a cartridge including a release device and a substance configured to be released by the release device.

15. The inhalation device according to claim 10 , wherein the controller is configured to prevent turning on the release device during a shut off time following the measured duration of airflow reaching or exceeding the limit value.

16. An inhalation device configured to control operation of a release device configured to release a substance contained in a cartridge, the inhalation device comprising:

a controller configured to control operation of the release device;

a timer configured to measure an amount of time the release device is activated;

wherein the controller is configured to turn off the release device when the timed activation of the release device reaches or exceeds a limit value.

17. The inhalation device according to claim 16 , further comprising sensor configured to detect one or more of an airflow, a temperature change, a pressure change, illumination of light, a current change, and a voltage change.

18. The inhalation device according to claim 16 , wherein the timer is configured to be activated by the sensor.

19. The inhalation device according to claim 16 , further comprising a cartridge including a release device and a substance configured to be released by the release device.

20. The inhalation device according to claim 16 , wherein the controller is configured to prevent turning on the release device during a shut off time following the timed activation of the release device reaching or exceeding the limit value.
