Systems, method, and program product for making payments using fiat-backed digital assets

Abstract
The present invention generally relates to the use of stable value digital assets and/or fiat-backed digital assets as cryptocurrencies that can be linked to other digital assets using blockchain technology and/or through a peer-to-peer network. In embodiments, the present invention relates to specific applications of fiat-backed digital assets and/or stable value digital asset tokens tied to a peer-to-peer network, such as a blockchain network.
Claims (70)
1. A method comprising:
providing a first database stored in association with a digital asset security token issuer system, wherein the first database indicates:
first digital asset addresses, wherein individual ones of the first digital asset addresses are associated with a digital asset security token holder and are associated with a distributed transaction ledger maintained by geographically distributed computer systems in a peer-to-peer network; and
a token amount for the individual ones of the first digital asset addresses;
providing a second database stored on the distributed transaction ledger, wherein the second database indicates:
second digital asset addresses, wherein individual ones of the second digital asset addresses are associated with a fiat-backed digital asset holder; and
a fiat-backed digital asset amount for the individual ones of the second digital asset addresses;
obtaining a first sum of fiat-backed digital assets;
determining a payment amount in the fiat-backed digital assets to be made to a digital asset address of the first digital asset addresses based at least in part on a fixed notional amount, the first sum of the fiat-backed digital assets, and the token amount;
publishing, to the distributed asset ledger, transaction instructions associated with crediting the payment amount of the fiat-backed digital assets to the digital asset address; and
notifying the first digital asset addresses of respective transfers of the fiat-backed digital assets to the digital asset address.
2. The method of claim 1 , wherein ownership of digital asset security tokens associated with the digital asset security token issuer system is maintained when the transaction instructions are published.
3. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:
accessing the second database to determine:
the digital asset addresses of the first digital asset addresses for the digital asset security token holder; and
the token amount associated with the digital asset address.
4. The method of claim 1 , further comprising generating the transaction instructions to transfer the payment amount of the fiat-backed digital assets to the digital asset address from a digital asset security token issuer account.
5. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:
publishing the transaction instructions to a side ledger; and
wherein publishing the transaction instructions to the distributed asset ledger includes publishing the transaction instructions from the side ledger to the distributed asset ledger.
6. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:
receiving, from at least one digital asset security token holder, a payment request prior to obtaining the first sum, the payment request to transfer the payment amount and including the digital asset address of the digital asset security token holder; and
confirming that:
the digital asset address of the digital asset security token holder is valid;
the token amount is more than zero; and
the digital asset token security holder is entitled to payment.
7. The method of claim 1 , wherein the second database is maintained on a sidechain separate from the peer-to-peer network, and wherein information on the sidechain is published and stored on the peer-to-peer network based at least in part on the transaction instructions.
8. The method of claim 1 , further comprising generating computer-readable code corresponding to the transaction instructions.
9. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:
generating a side ledger; and
transferring the transaction instructions from the side ledger to the distributed asset ledger.
10. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:
identifying a payment request; and
confirming, based at least in part on identifying the payment request, that the digital asset address is valid.
11. A system comprising:
one or more processors; and
non-transitory computer-readable media storing instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the one or more processors to perform operations comprising:
providing a first database stored in association with a digital asset security token issuer system, wherein the first database indicates:
first digital asset addresses, wherein individual ones of the first digital asset addresses are associated with a digital asset security token holder and are associated with a distributed transaction ledger maintained by geographically distributed computer systems in a peer-to-peer network; and
a token amount for the individual ones of the first digital asset addresses;
providing a second database stored on the distributed transaction ledger, wherein the second database indicates:
second digital asset addresses, wherein individual ones of the second digital asset addresses are associated with a fiat-backed digital asset holder; and
a fiat-backed digital asset amount for the individual ones of the second digital asset addresses;
obtaining a first sum of fiat-backed digital assets;
determining a payment amount in fiat-backed digital assets to be made to a digital asset address of the first digital asset addresses based at least in part on a fixed notional amount, the first sum of fiat-backed digital assets, and the token amount;
publishing transaction instructions associated with crediting the payment amount of fiat-backed digital assets to the digital asset address to the distributed asset ledger; and
notifying the first digital asset addresses of respective transfers of fiat-backed digital assets to the digital asset address.
12. The system of claim 11 , wherein ownership of digital asset security tokens is maintained when the transaction instructions are published.
13. The system of claim 11 , the operations further comprising:
accessing the second database to determine:
the digital asset addresses of the first digital asset addresses for the digital asset security token holder; and
the token amount associated with the digital asset address.
14. The system of claim 11 , the operations further comprising generating the transaction instructions to transfer the payment amount of fiat-backed digital assets to the digital asset address from a digital asset security token issuer account.
15. The system of claim 11 , the operations further comprising:
publishing the transaction instructions to a side ledger; and
wherein publishing the transaction instructions to the distributed asset ledger includes publishing the transaction instructions from the side ledger to the distributed asset ledger.
16. The system of claim 11 , the operations further comprising:
receiving, from at least one digital asset security token holder, a payment request prior to obtaining the first sum, the payment request to transfer the payment amount and including the digital asset address of the digital asset security token holder; and
confirming that:
the digital asset address of the digital asset security token holder is valid;
the token amount is more than zero; and
the digital asset token security holder is entitled to payment.
17. The system of claim 11 , wherein the second database is maintained on a sidechain, separate from the peer-to-peer network, wherein information on the sidechain is published and stored on the peer-to-peer network based at least in part on the transaction instructions.
18. The system of claim 11 , further comprising generating computer-readable code corresponding to the transaction instructions.
19. The system of claim 11 , further comprising:
generating a side ledger; and
transferring the transaction instructions from the side ledger to the distributed asset ledger.
20. The system of claim 11 , further comprising:
identifying a payment request; and
confirming, based at least in part on identifying the payment request, that the digital asset address is valid.
