Abstract

Methods and apparatus are described. A station includes a transceiver and a processor, which detect a trigger frame for an uplink (UL) multi-user (MU) transmission. The trigger frame includes a user information field with an allocation of one or more random access resource units (RUs) and a common information field with information to set high efficiency (HE) SIGNAL-A (HE-SIG-A) fields in the UL MU transmission. The transceiver and the processor generate an HE trigger-based (TB) physical layer protocol data unit (PPDU) and set an HE-SIG-A field in the HE TB PPDU using the information in the trigger frame. The transceiver and the processor select one of the one or more random access RUs and transmit the HE TB PPDU, using the selected one of the one or more random access RUs, a short inter-frame space after the trigger frame.

Claims (33)

1. A station (STA) comprising:

a transceiver; and

a processor,

wherein the transceiver and the processor are configured to detect a trigger frame for an uplink (UL) multi-user (MU) transmission,

wherein the transceiver and the processor are further configured to transmit a Medium Access Control (MAC) Protocol Data Unit (MPDU) in the UL MU transmission a short interframe space (SIFS) after the detected trigger frame, and

wherein the transceiver and the processor are further configured to detect an aggregated-MPDU (A-MPDU) a SIFS after the UL MU transmission, the A-MPDU comprising at least one other trigger frame and an acknowledgement (ACK) frame for the MPDU transmitted in the UL MU transmission.

2. The STA of claim 1 , wherein the ACK frame is a multi-STA block ACK for a plurality of MPDUs sent by a plurality of STAs, including the MPDU transmitted by the STA, in the UL MU transmission.

3. The STA of claim 1 , wherein the multi-STA block ACK is located at the start of the A-MPDU.

4. The STA of claim 1 , wherein the trigger frame is a unicast trigger frame directed at one of a plurality of STAs that transmitted in the UL MU transmission, and the ACK frame is aggregated with the unicast trigger frame before the unicast trigger frame.

5. The STA of claim 4 , wherein the ACK frame is a block ACK frame.

6. The STA of claim 1 , wherein the at least one other trigger frame is one of a buffer status report poll (BSRP) trigger frame, a bandwidth query report poll (BQRP) trigger frame or a basic trigger frame.

7. The STA of claim 1 , wherein the A-MPDU further comprises data directed to at least one of a plurality of STAs that transmitted in the UL MU transmission.

8. A method, implemented in a station (STA), the method comprising:

the STA detecting a trigger frame for an uplink (UL) multi-user (MU) transmission;

the STA transmitting a Medium Access Control (MAC) Protocol Data Unit (MPDU) in the UL MU transmission a short interframe space (SIFS) after the detected trigger frame; and

the STA detecting an aggregated-MPDU (A-MPDU) a SIFS after the UL MU transmission, the A-MPDU comprising at least one other trigger frame and an acknowledgement (ACK) frame for the MPDU transmitted in the UL MU transmission.

9. The method of claim 8 , wherein the ACK frame is a multi-STA block ACK for a plurality of MPDUs sent by a plurality of STAs, including the MPDU transmitted by the STA, in the UL MU transmission.

10. The method of claim 8 , wherein the multi-STA block ACK is located at the start of the A-MPDU.

11. The method of claim 8 , wherein the trigger frame is a unicast trigger frame directed at one of a plurality of STAs that transmitted in the UL MU transmission, and the ACK frame is aggregated with the unicast trigger frame before the unicast trigger frame.

12. The method of claim 11 , wherein the ACK frame is a block ACK frame.

13. The method of claim 8 , wherein the at least one other trigger frame is one of a buffer status report poll (BSRP) trigger frame, a bandwidth query report poll (BQRP) trigger frame or a basic trigger frame.

14. The method of claim 8 , wherein the A-MPDU further comprises data directed to at least one of a plurality of STAs that transmitted in the UL MU transmission.

15. An access point (AP) comprising:

a transceiver; and

a processor,

wherein the transceiver and the processor are configured to transmit a trigger frame for an uplink (UL) multi-user (MU) transmission,

wherein the transceiver and the processor are further configured to receive a Medium Access Control (MAC) Protocol Data Unit (MPDU) in the UL MU transmission a short interframe space (SIFS) after the detected trigger frame, and

wherein the transceiver and the processor are further configured to receive an aggregated-MPDU (A-MPDU) a SIFS after the UL MU transmission, the A-MPDU comprising at least one other trigger frame and an acknowledgement (ACK) frame for the MPDU transmitted in the UL MU transmission.

16. The AP of claim 15 , wherein the ACK frame is a multi-STA block ACK for a plurality of MPDUs sent by a plurality of STAs, including the MPDU transmitted by the STA, in the UL MU transmission.

17. The AP of claim 15 , wherein the multi-STA block ACK is located at the start of the A-MPDU.

18. The AP of claim 15 , wherein the trigger frame is a unicast trigger frame directed at one of a plurality of STAs that transmitted in the UL MU transmission, and the ACK frame is aggregated with the unicast trigger frame before the unicast trigger frame.

19. The AP of claim 18 , wherein the ACK frame is a block ACK frame.

20. The AP of claim 15 , wherein the at least one other trigger frame is one of a buffer status report poll (BSRP) trigger frame, a bandwidth query report poll (BQRP) trigger frame or a basic trigger frame.
