Abstract

A color conversion film is provided. The film includes at least one narrow band emission phosphor dispersed within a binder matrix, wherein the narrow band emission phosphor has a D50 particle size from about 0.1 μm to about 15 μm and is selected from the group consisting of a green-emitting U 6+ -containing phosphor, a green-emitting Mn 2+ -containing phosphor, a red-emitting phosphor based on complex fluoride materials activated by Mn 4+ , and a mixture thereof. A device is also provided.

Claims (43)

1. A film comprising at least one phosphor dispersed within a binder matrix, wherein the phosphor has a D50 particle size from about 0.1 μm to about 15 μm and is selected from the group consisting of a green-emitting U 6+ -containing phosphor, a green-emitting Mn 2+ -containing phosphor, a red-emitting phosphor based on complex fluoride materials activated by Mn 4+ , and a mixture thereof, wherein the film is a single layer or has multiple layers.

2. The film according to claim 1 , wherein the at least one phosphor has a D50 particle size from about 0.1 μm to about 3 μm or from about 3 μm to about 8.5 μm.

3. The film according to claim 1 , wherein the green-emitting U 6+ -containing phosphor is selected from the group consisting of: γ-Ba 2 UO 2 (PO 4 ) 2 , Ba[Mg,Zn]UO 2 (PO 4 ) 2 , Ba 6 Al 5 P 5 O 26 :U 6+ , Ba(UO 2 )P 2 O 7 , Ba 3 (UO 2 ) 2 P 2 O 7 (PO 4 ) 2 , and combinations thereof; and

the green-emitting Mn 2+ -containing phosphor is selected from the group consisting of: ((CH 3 ) 4 N)MnX 3 , where X=Br or Cl; [MEA]-(MnX 4 ) 2 , where X=Br or Cl and [MEA]=((CH 3 ) 4 N(C 2 H 5 ) 4 N) 2 NH 4 ; (OP-Ph 3 ) 2 MnBr 2 , where Ph=phenyl; (OP(N-Me 2 ) 3 ) 2 MnX 2 , where X=Cl or Br and Me=methyl; (OP-Ph-(N-Me 2 ) 2 ) 2 MnX 2 , where X=Cl or Br, Ph=phenyl and Me=Methyl; [DPEPO]-MnX 2 , where X=Cl, Br or I and [DPEPO]=bis[2-(diphenylphosphino)-phenyl]ether-oxide; [DBFDPO]-MnX 2 , where X=Cl or Br and [DBFDPO]=4,6-bis(diphenylphosphoryl)dibenzofuran; C 11 H 22 N 2 MnCl 4 ; C 4 H 10 NMnBr 3 ; and A 2 MnX 4 , where X=Br, Cl or I, and when X=Br, then A=Et 4 -N, Pr 4 -N, Bz-Bu 3 -N, Ph-Me 3 -N, Ph 4 -P, Me-Ph 3 -P, Et-Ph 3 -P, Bz-Me 3 -N, K(crypt-222), Pr-Me 3 -N, Me-P-Ph 3 -Br, Pr-Me 3 -NBr, P 14 , PP 14 , C 2 H 10 N 2 Br, C 10 , H 16 N, Btz, Bn-P-Ph 3 , C n mim (n=1,2,3), K(dibenzo-18-crown-6), Bn-Me 3 -N, Bn-Et 3 -N, Bn-(C 5 H 5 N), C 6 H 14 N, C 5 H 5 N, and C 4 H 10 N, and when X=Cl, then A=Et 4 -N, Pro-N, Bz-Bu 3 -N, Ph-Me 3 -N, Ph 4 -P, Et-Ph 3 -P, Bz-Me 3 -N, (P-Ph 3 ) 2 N, Btz, Bn-P-Ph 3 , C n mim (n=1,2,3), K(dibenzo-18-crown-6), and C 4 NOH 10 , and when X=I, then A=Et 4 -N, Pr 4 -N, Ph-Me 3 -N, Bz-Me 3 -N, and C 4 H 10 N; where Bz=benzoyl, Bn=benzyl, Pr=propyl, Me=methyl, Et=ethyl, Bu=butyl, Btz=Benzothiazole, C n mim=n-alkyl-methylimidazolium and Ph=phenyl.

4. The film according to claim 1 further comprising one or more materials selected from the group consisting of quantum dot materials, additional phosphors, phosphorescent dyes, color filter pigments, metal oxide nanoparticles, scattering particles, and mixtures thereof.

5. The film according to claim 4 further comprising quantum dot materials, wherein the quantum dot materials comprise perovskite quantum dots.

The film according to claim 1 , wherein the film further comprises an additional phosphor selected from (Y,Gd,Tb,La,Sm,Pr,Lu) 3 (Al,Ga) 5-a O 12 - 3/2a :Ce 3+ (wherein 0≤a≤0.5); beta-SiAlON:Eu 2+ ; (Sr,Ca,Ba)(Al,Ga,In) 2 S 4 :Eu 2+ ; alpha-SiAlON doped with Eu 2+ and/or Ce 3+ ; Ca 1-h-r Ce h Eu r Al 1-h (Mg,Zn) h SiN 3 (where 0≤h≤0.2, 0≤r≤0.2); Sr(LiAl 3 N 4 ):Eu 2+ ; (Ca, Sr)S:Eu 2+ , Ce 3+ ; (Ba, Sr,Ca) b Si g N m :Eu 2+ (wherein 2b+4g=3m); and

combinations thereof.

7. The film according to claim 1 , wherein the at least one phosphor is the red-emitting phosphor based on complex fluoride materials activated by Mn 4+ and the red-emitting phosphor is at least partially coated with a surface coating comprising a metal fluoride, silica or organic coating.

8. The film according to claim 7 , wherein the surface coating is a metal fluoride selected from the group consisting of MgF 2 , CaF 2 , SrF 2 , BaF 2 , AgF, ZnF 2 , AlF 3 , and a combination thereof.

The film according to claim 1 , wherein the at least one phosphor comprises the green-emitting U 6+ -containing phosphor or the green-emitting Mn 2+ -containing phosphor, and the film further comprises an additional phosphor selected from (Y,Gd,Tb,La,Sm,Pr,Lu) 3 (Al,Ga) 5-a O 12-3/2a :Ce 3+ (wherein 0≤a≤0.5); beta-SiAlON:Eu 2+ ; (Sr,Ca,Ba)(Al,Ga,In) 2 S 4 :Eu 2+ ; alpha-SiAlON doped with Eu 2+ and/or Ce 3+ ; Ca 1-h-r Ce h Eu r Al 1-h (Mg,Zn) h SiN 3 , (where 0≤h≤0.2, 0≤r≤0.2); Sr(LiAl 3 N 4 ):Eu 2+ ; (Ca,Sr)S:Eu 2+ ,Ce 3+ ; (Ba,Sr,Ca) b Si g N m :Eu 2+ (wherein 2b+4g=3m); and combinations thereof.

A film comprising a red-emitting phosphor dispersed within a binder matrix, wherein the red-emitting phosphor has a D50 particle size from about 0.1 μm to about 3 μm or from about 3 μm to about 8.5 μm, wherein the red-emitting phosphor comprises formula I and is at least partially coated with a surface coating comprising a metal fluoride, silica or organic coating, and wherein the film is a single layer or has multiple layers,

A x MF y : Mn 4+   I

wherein

A is Li, Na, K, Rb, Cs, or a combination thereof;

M is Si, Ge, Sn, Ti, Zr, Al, Ga, In, Sc, Hf, Y, La, Nb, Ta, Bi, Gd, or a combination thereof;

x is an absolute value of a charge of the MF y ion; and

y is 5, 6 or 7.

11. The film according to claim 10 , wherein the surface coating is a metal fluoride selected from the group consisting of MgF 2 , CaF 2 , SrF 2 , BaF 2 , AgF, ZnF 2 , AlF 3 , and a combination thereof.

12. The film according to claim 10 , wherein formula I is K 2 SiF 6 :Mn 4+ or Na 2 SiF 6 :Mn 4+ .

13. The film according to claim 10 further comprising one or more materials selected from the group consisting of quantum dot materials, additional phosphors, phosphorescent dyes, color filter pigments, metal oxide nanoparticles, scattering particles, and mixtures thereof.

14. The film according to claim 13 further comprising quantum dot materials, wherein the quantum dot materials comprise perovskite quantum dots.

15. The film according to claim 10 , wherein the film comprises one or more additional phosphors selected from (Y,Gd,Tb,La,Sm,Pau) 3 (Al,Ga) 5-a ,O 12-3/2a :Ce 3+ (wherein 0≤a≤0.5); beta-SiAlON:Eu 2+ ;

(Sr,Ca,Ba)(Al,Ga,In) 2 S 4 :Eu 2+ ; alpha-SiAlON doped with Eu 2+ and/or Ce 3+ ;

Ca 1-h-r Ce h Eu r Al 1-h (Mg,Zn) h SiN 3 , (where 0≤h≤0.2,0≤r≤0.2); Sr(LiAl 3 N 4 ):Eu 2+ ;

(Ca,Sr)S:Eu 2+ , Ce 3+ ; (Ba, Sr, Ca) b Si g N m :Eu 2+ (wherein 2b+4g=3m); and combinations thereof.

A device comprising an LED light source optically coupled and/or radiationally connected to a film comprising at least one phosphor dispersed within a binder matrix, wherein the phosphor has a D50 particle size from about 0.1 μm to about 15 μm and is selected from the group consisting of a green-emitting U 6+ -containing phosphor, a green-emitting Mn 2+ -containing phosphor, a red-emitting phosphor based on complex fluoride materials activated by Mn 4+ , and a mixture thereof, wherein the film is a single layer or has multiple layers.

17. A backlight apparatus comprising the device according to claim 16 .

18. A lighting apparatus comprising the device according to claim 16 .

19. A television comprising the backlight apparatus of claim 17 .

20. A mobile phone comprising the backlight apparatus of claim 17 .

21. A computer monitor comprising the backlight apparatus of claim 17 .

22. An automotive display comprising the backlight apparatus of claim 17 .

23. A tablet computer comprising the backlight apparatus of claim 17 .

24. A laptop comprising the backlight apparatus of claim 17 .

25. The device according to claim 16 , wherein the LED light source comprises a mini-LED or a micro-LED.

26. The device according to claim 16 , wherein the LED light source emits UV or blue light.

27. The device according to claim 16 , wherein the film is disposed on the LED light source or is located remotely from the LED light source.

28. The device according to claim 16 , wherein the film further comprises one or more materials selected from the group consisting of quantum dot materials, additional phosphors, phosphorescent dyes, color filter pigments, metal oxide nanoparticles, scattering particles, and mixtures thereof.

29. The device according to claim 28 , wherein the film further comprises quantum dot materials, wherein the quantum dot materials comprise perovskite quantum dots.

30. A film prepared by depositing a composition on a substrate and drying or curing the composition, wherein the composition comprises a binder material and at least one phosphor being uniformly dispersed throughout the composition, the narrow band emission phosphor having a D50 particle size from about 0.1 μm to about 15 μm and is selected from the group consisting of a green-emitting U 6+ -containing phosphor, a green-emitting Mn 2+ -containing phosphor, a red-emitting phosphor based on complex fluoride materials activated by Me, and a mixture thereof.

31. The film in accordance with claim 30 , wherein the composition is deposited by coating or printing.

32. The film in accordance with claim 30 , wherein the composition is deposited by at least one of wet-coating, spin coating, slot-die coating, spray coating, dipping, applying the composition with a doctor blade, and ink jet printing.
