Abstract

Disclosed herein are prolyl hydroxylase inhibitors that can stabilize hypoxia inducible factor-1 alpha (HIF-1α), as well as hypoxia inducible factor-2 (HIF-2). Also disclosed herein are pharmaceutical compositions comprising one or more of the disclosed compounds. Yet further disclosed are methods for stimulating the cellular immune response in a mammal such as increasing phagocytosis, for example, prolonging the life of phagocytes, inter alia, kerotyiocytes, neutrophils. As such the disclosed compounds provide methods for treating diseases that relate to the body's immune response.

The compound of claim 17 , wherein the compound is a pharmaceutically acceptable salt comprising an anion, wherein the anion is selected from the group consisting of chloride, bromide, iodide, sulfate, bisulfate, carbonate, bicarbonate, phosphate, hydrogensulfate, p-toluenesulfonate, methanesulfonate, formate, acetate, propionate, butyrate, pyruvate, lactate, oxalate, malonate, maleate, succinate, tartrate, fumarate, glycolate, and citrate.

19 . The compound of claim 18 , wherein the anion is chloride.

20 . The compound of claim 18 , wherein the anion is hydrogensulfate.

21 . The compound of claim 18 , wherein the anion is p-toluenesulfonate.

22 . The compound of claim 18 , wherein the anion is methanesulfonate.

23 . A pharmaceutical composition comprising a compound that is a pharmaceutically acceptable salt of:

The pharmaceutical composition of claim 23 , wherein the compound is a pharmaceutically acceptable salt comprising an anion, wherein the anion is selected from the group consisting of chloride, bromide, iodide, sulfate, bisulfate, carbonate, bicarbonate, phosphate, hydrogensulfate, p-toluenesulfonate, methanesulfonate, formate, acetate, propionate, butyrate, pyruvate, lactate, oxalate, malonate, maleate, succinate, tartrate, fumarate, glycolate, and citrate.

25 . The pharmaceutical composition of claim 24 , wherein the anion is chloride.

26 . The pharmaceutical composition of claim 24 , wherein the anion is hydrogensulfate.

27 . The pharmaceutical composition of claim 24 , wherein the anion is p-toluenesufonate.

28 . The pharmaceutical composition of claim 24 , wherein the anion is methanesulfonate.
