Abstract

An apparatus comprising an arm control path, a deploy control path and a communication module. The arm control path may be configured to trigger an arm signal. The deploy control path may be configured to trigger a deploy signal. The communication module may be configured to communicate a remote signal to/from an end device, generate a bypass signal in response to the remote signal and generate the remote signal in response to detecting the arm signal. An activation signal for an actuator may be generated in response to the arm signal and the deploy signal. The arm signal and the deploy signal may be generated independently. The communication module may enable the remote signal to activate the end device. The bypass signal may be compatible with the arm control path and ensure an independent and parallel path for the arm control path to generate the arm signal.

Claims (26)

1. An apparatus comprising:

an arm control path configured to trigger an arm signal;

a deploy control path configured to trigger a deploy signal; and

a communication module configured to (a) communicate a remote signal to/from an end device over a bus, (b) generate a bypass signal in response to said remote signal and (c) generate said remote signal in response to detecting said arm signal; wherein

(a) said apparatus is configured to generate an activation signal for an actuator in response to said arm signal and said deploy signal,

(b) said arm signal and said deploy signal are generated independently;

(c) said communication module enables said remote signal in order to activate said end device when said arm signal is detected; and

(d) said bypass signal is configured to (i) be compatible with said arm control path, (ii) enable said communication module to cause said arm control path to generate said arm signal and (iii) ensure an independent and parallel path for said arm control path to generate said arm signal.

2. The apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein said communication module is configured to implement an end-to-end communication protocol as a hardware component in said apparatus.

3. The apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein said apparatus is implemented as an integrated circuit in a restraint control module.

4. The apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein (i) said end device comprises a pre-incident electronic control unit and (ii) said activation signal enables said actuator to perform a pre-incident deployment in response to said bypass signal.

5. The apparatus according to claim 4 , wherein said actuator comprises an external side air-bag for a vehicle.

6. The apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein said communication module is configured to operate as an independent entity from a microcontroller.

7. The apparatus according to claim 6 , wherein said microcontroller is configured to enable said deploy control path to generate said deploy signal in response to analyzing data from a first sensor and a second sensor.

8. The apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein (i) said arm signal is generated in response to an incident and (ii) said remote signal generated by said communication module in response to detecting said arm signal enables said end device to perform a post-incident reaction in response to said remote signal.

9. The apparatus according to claim 8 , wherein (i) said end device comprises a brake electronic control unit and (ii) said post-incident reaction comprises applying brakes.

10. The apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein (i) said arm control path comprises a safing block and (ii) said safing block is configured to trigger said arm signal in response to (a) an internal signal and (b) passing through said bypass signal from said communication module.

11. The apparatus according to claim 10 , wherein said safing block is configured to perform a logical OR operation between said internal signal and said bypass signal to trigger said arm signal.

12. The apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein (i) said communication module comprises a validation module and a payload processing module, (ii) said validation module is configured to validate said remote signal based on a profile and (iii) said payload processing module is configured to enable said bypass signal to be generated in response to said remote signal.

13. The apparatus according to claim 12 , wherein said profile comprises an AUTOSAR profile for ensuring data coherency between said communication module and said end device.

14. The apparatus according to claim 12 , wherein (i) said communication module comprises a register map and (ii) said profile is selected based on a configuration of said register map.

15. The apparatus according to claim 12 , wherein said payload processing module generates said bypass signal in response to (i) a validation of said remote signal by said validation module, (ii) an enable signal generated by a code extraction module and (iii) an error check and counter performed by said payload processing module.

16. The apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein said arm signal is presented to (i) a deployment control logic, (ii) a deployment voltage regulator and (ii) said communication module.

17. The apparatus according to claim 16 , wherein said communication module is configured to (i) snoop a status of said arm signal to generate said remote signal and (ii) said remote signal comprises two arm transmit signals.

18. The apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein (i) said remote signal and said bypass signal each comprise a plurality of E2E arm signals and (ii) said E2E arm signals provide an interface between said apparatus and said end device.

19. The apparatus according to claim 18 , wherein (i) said plurality of E2E arm signals comprise eight E2E arm signals and (ii) said communication module is configured to map said eight E2E arm signals to eight physical arm signals within said apparatus.
