Abstract

A pet hair removal apparatus has a plurality of engagement members. The apparatus has a handle and connected base member. On the base member is one or more engagement members, such as lugs, protrusions or frustums. On the lower surface of one of the engagement members is one or more striations, ribs, squeegees or ridges. The striations, ribs, squeegees or ridges operate in an operational engagement position to remove pet hair from the surface of an inanimate object, such as a couch or other fabric. This operational engagement position for the striations, ribs, squeegees or ridges is one of a number of other operational engagement positions for the pet hair removal apparatus.

Claims (24)

1. A method for removing pet hair from a surface of an inanimate object, the method comprising:

orienting a base member of a pet hair removal apparatus in a first operational engagement position relative to a surface of an inanimate object;

contacting a serrated surface with the surface of the inanimate object, wherein the serrated surface extends downwardly from the base member and laterally between a first side and a second side of the base member;

contacting a plurality of engagement members with the surface of the inanimate object, wherein the plurality of engagement members are shaped as lugs and extend downwardly from the base member, and wherein at least one engagement member from the plurality of engagement members includes a plurality of striations defining channels or grooves therebetween on a lower surface of the at least one engagement member;

contacting a squeegee with the surface of the inanimate object, wherein the squeegee extends downwardly from the base member and laterally between the first side and the second side of the base member, wherein the plurality of engagement members are located between the serrated surface and the squeegee;

pulling a gripping portion of the pet hair removal apparatus in a direction relative to the surface, wherein the gripping portion is coupled to the base member;

lifting the gripping portion and base member away from the surface; and

removing pet hair from the surface of the inanimate object.

2. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

flexing the plurality of striations in response to pulling the gripping portion.

3. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

flexing a surface on one of the plurality of striations from a first angle to a second angle, wherein when the surface is at the second angle, the surface on the one of the plurality of striations is closer to parallel than when the surface is at the first angle relative to a vertical axis of the at least one engagement member from the plurality of engagement members.

4. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

capturing the pet hair in the grooves or channels defined between adjacent striations in the plurality of striations on the lower surface of the at least one engagement member from the plurality of engagement members.

5. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

simultaneously flexing two adjacent striations in the plurality of striations at identical angles in response to pulling the gripping portion.

6. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

flexing the plurality of striations from a first angle to a second angle in response to pulling the gripping portion, wherein the first angle is in a range from about 60 degrees to 85 degrees relative to the lower surface of the at least one engagement member from the plurality of engagement members.

7. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

orienting the striations in a transverse direction that is orthogonal to the direction in which the pet hair removal apparatus is pulled relative to the surface.

8. The method of claim 1 , wherein a number of striations defining the plurality of striations ranges from four to twelve.

9. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

orienting a surface of at least one of the striations at an angle of inclination that equals that of a front surface on the base member, wherein at least one of the striations from the plurality of striations and the front surface on the base member are angled relative to a vertical axis of the at least one engagement member from the plurality of engagement members.

10. The method of claim 2 , wherein flexing the plurality of striations in response to pulling the gripping portion is accomplished by applying downward pressure to the plurality of striations.
