Abstract

Systems and apparatuses include a power shift transmission including a plurality of clutch valves, each clutch valve actuatable between an open position providing flow to a corresponding clutch pack and a closed position inhibiting flow to the corresponding clutch pack; and a hydraulic damping rail including a primary rail wall defining a primary rail volume, a rail inlet structured to provide communication of hydraulic fluid between a hydraulic pump and the primary rail volume, and a plurality of rail outlets, each rail outlet corresponding to one of the plurality of clutch valves and structured to provide communication between the primary rail volume and the corresponding one of the plurality of clutch valves.

Claims (35)

1. A power shift transmission, comprising:

a plurality of clutch valves, each clutch valve actuatable between an open position providing flow to a corresponding clutch pack and a closed position inhibiting flow to the corresponding clutch pack; and

a hydraulic damping rail including:

a primary rail wall defining a primary rail volume;

a rail inlet structured to provide communication of hydraulic fluid between a hydraulic pump and the primary rail volume; and

a plurality of rail outlets, each rail outlet corresponding to one of the plurality of clutch valves and structured to provide communication between the primary rail volume and the corresponding one of the plurality of clutch valves; and

at least one of:

(a) further comprising a valve block coupled between the hydraulic damping rail and the plurality of clutch valves;

(b) wherein the hydraulic damping rail further includes a secondary rail wall defining a secondary rail volume; or

(c) wherein the hydraulic damper rail acts as a pressure reservoir that damps the noise and fluctuations in hydraulic pressure distributed between the plurality of rail outlets.

2. The power shift transmission of claim 1 , further comprising the valve block coupled between the hydraulic damping rail and the plurality of clutch valves.

3. The power shift transmission of claim 2 , wherein the valve block and the hydraulic damping rail are integrated as a single unit.

4. The power shift transmission of claim 3 , wherein the valve block defines passages fluidly coupling each rail outlet and the corresponding one of the plurality of clutch valves.

5. The power shift transmission of claim 1 , wherein the rail inlet is positioned on a first side of the primary rail wall and the plurality of rail outlets are all positioned on a second side of the primary rail wall opposite the first side.

6. The power shift transmission of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of rail outlets define a non-uniform spacing between adjacent rail outlets.

7. The power shift transmission of claim 1 , wherein the hydraulic damping rail further includes the secondary rail wall defining the secondary rail volume.

8. The power shift transmission of claim 7 , wherein the primary rail wall defines a primary diameter, and wherein the secondary rail wall defines a secondary diameter greater than the primary diameter.

9. The power shift transmission of claim 7 , wherein the hydraulic damping rail further includes a first damping structure positioned within the secondary rail volume.

10. The power shift transmission of claim 9 , wherein the first damping structure includes a first piston movable between an extended position and a retracted position.

11. The power shift transmission of claim 10 , wherein the extended position and the retracted position define a travel length that defines a damping volume.

12. The power shift transmission of claim 10 , wherein the first damping structure includes a first spring biasing the first piston toward the extended position.

13. The power shift transmission of claim 9 , wherein the hydraulic damping rail further includes a tertiary rail wall defining a tertiary rail volume, and wherein the hydraulic damping rail further includes a second damping structure positioned within the tertiary rail volume.

14. The power shift transmission of claim 13 , wherein the secondary rail wall and the tertiary rail wall are arranged on opposite ends of the primary rail wall.

15. The power shift transmission of claim 1 , wherein the hydraulic damper rail acts as the pressure reservoir that damps the noise and fluctuations in the hydraulic pressure distributed between the plurality of rail outlets.

16. A hydraulic damping rail for a power shift transmission, the hydraulic damping rail comprising:

a rail inlet structured to provide communication of hydraulic fluid between a hydraulic pump and a damping volume;

a plurality of rail outlets, each rail outlet structured to provide communication between the damping volume and a corresponding clutch valve; and

a damping structure positioned within the damping volume.

17. The hydraulic damping rail of claim 16 , further comprising a housing directly fastened to the clutch valves and defining passages fluidly coupling each rail outlet to the corresponding clutch valve.

18. The hydraulic damping rail of claim 16 , wherein the damping structure includes a piston and a spring.

19. A method, comprising:

providing pressurized hydraulic fluid from a pump to a damping volume of a hydraulic damping rail via a single rail inlet;

providing pressurized hydraulic fluid from the damping volume to a plurality of clutch valves via a plurality of rail outlets; and

damping noise and pressure fluctuations within the damping volume.

20. The method of claim 19 , wherein damping noise and pressure fluctuations within the damping volume includes moving a piston between an extended position and a retracted position against a bias of a spring.
