Abstract

Various systems and methods for presenting and interacting with electronic trading related information on a display screen of a computer system are provided. According to one or more embodiments, buttons are positioned and compressed along an axis, where each button corresponds to a function. A button can be selected through an action of a user input device. A button is removed from the region when a function corresponding to the button is no longer current and when the cursor is not positioned within the region. The remaining buttons, if any, in the region are compressed subsequent to removing the button from the region. A button is not removed from the region when the cursor is positioned within the region.

Claims (24)

1. A method comprising:

displaying a user interface in a display screen of a trading device, wherein the user interface includes a plurality of buttons and wherein each button is positioned and compressed along an axis and is configured to be selected via a user input device coupled to the trading device to initiate an operation on a corresponding trade order pending at an electronic exchange;

receiving a user input provided by the input device coupled to the trading device, wherein the user input positions a cursor displayed in the user interface of the trading device;

monitoring a cursor location related to the cursor with respect to the user interface to determine whether the cursor is within the user interface as the cursor is positioned with respect to the display screen in response to the user input device;

receiving via the user input device of the trading device a command to select a first button of the plurality of buttons in the user interface, wherein the command positions the cursor over a first button to initiate at least one of modifying a first trade order corresponding to the first button and canceling the first trade order corresponding to the first button;

in response to determining that a second trade order for a second button of the plurality of buttons in the user interface is no longer pending at the electronic exchange and that the cursor is positioned outside the user interface:

removing the second button for the second trade order from the user interface, and

compressing a remaining portion of the plurality of buttons in the user interface, where the remaining portion of the plurality of buttons in the user interface includes the first button and a third button for a third order; and

in response to determining that the second trade order for the second button is not pending at the electronic exchange and that the cursor is positioned inside the user interface:

maintaining at least a portion of the second button in the user interface.

2. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

displaying an indicator in relation to the second button subsequent to maintaining the second button indicating that the second trade order for the second button is not pending at the electronic exchange.

3. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

sending a message to the electronic exchange to modify the first trade order for the first button responsive to the command to select the first button.

4. The method of claim 3 , wherein the command comprises a click of a button of the user input device, the click of the button consisting of a single click.

5. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

sending a message to the electronic exchange to cancel the first trade order responsive to selecting the first button in the region through the command.

6. The method of claim 5 , wherein the command comprises a click of a button of the user input device, the click of the button consisting of a single click.

7. The method of claim 1 , wherein the command comprises a click of a button of the user input device, the click of the button consisting of a single click.

8. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

opening a window for displaying information related to modifying the first trade order responsive to the command to select the first button.

9. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

opening a window for displaying information related to canceling the first trade order responsive to the command to select the first button.

10. The method of claim 1 , wherein compressing comprises any of graphically moving a button on the display screen and assigning a different function to at least one of the plurality of buttons.
