Abstract

Systems and methods for an atmospheric carbon dioxide removal system that includes a plurality of carbon capture containers, a plurality of fans, an air diverter, and a velocity stack. Each of the carbon capture containers has an outwardly facing side and an inwardly facing side with the inwardly facing side facing an enclosed space. The fans are disposed adjacent to the carbon capture containers. The fans are arranged to move air through the carbon capture containers in a first direction from the outwardly facing side into the enclosed space. The air diverter is disposed within the enclosed space and receives the air flowing in the first direction and redirects the air to flow in a second direction that is angled upwardly from the first direction. The velocity stack is disposed on top of the enclosed space and is configured to accelerate the flow of the air in the second direction.

Claims (43)

1. A carbon dioxide removal system, comprising:

a carbon capture container usable to capture carbon dioxide from a fluid flowing through the carbon capture container, wherein the carbon capture container comprises:

an outer container comprising:

a first end comprising a first opening;

a second end opposite the first end and comprising a second opening; and

a first sidewall extending between the first end and the second end;

one or more sorbent subcontainers disposed within the outer container in a manner forming a gap between the outer container and each sorbent subcontainer,

wherein each sorbent subcontainer comprises:

a first end comprising a first opening configured to receive a fluid flow;

a second end opposite the first end, wherein the second end is closed; and

a second sidewall extending between the first end and the second end, wherein the second sidewall comprises a plurality of perforations that permit the fluid flow therethrough,

wherein the carbon capture container is configured to direct air into the first end of each sorbent subcontainer of the one or more sorbent subcontainers;

a sorbent material disposed within each sorbent subcontainer or adjacent to the second sidewall of each sorbent subcontainer, the sorbent material designed to remove the carbon dioxide from the fluid; and

a carbon removal apparatus configured to cooperate with the carbon capture container to remove the carbon dioxide from the sorbent material, the carbon removal apparatus comprising a first closure configured to seal the first opening on the first end of the outer container and a second closure configured to seal the second opening on the second end of the outer container.

2. The carbon dioxide removal system of claim 1 , wherein the first closure of the carbon removal apparatus comprises a first door and the second closure of the carbon removal apparatus comprises a second door.

3. The carbon dioxide removal system of claim 1 , further comprising:

a motor or a mechanism configured to increase and decrease a pressure inside the carbon capture container.

4. The carbon dioxide removal system of claim 1 , further comprising:

pipes or hoses that deliver heat and fluids to the capture container; and

pipes or hoses that remove fluids from the capture container.

5. The carbon dioxide removal system of claim 1 , further comprising:

a motor that opens and closes the carbon removal apparatus.

6. A carbon dioxide removal system, comprising:

a carbon capture container comprising:

a sorbent material holding apparatus comprising:

a first end comprising a first opening;

a second end opposite the first end and comprising a second opening; and

a first sidewall extending between the first end and the second end;

one or more sorbent material holding subcontainers disposed within the sorbent material holding apparatus in a manner forming a longitudinally extending gap between the sorbent material holding apparatus and each sorbent material holding sub container,

wherein each sorbent material holding sub container comprises:

a first end comprising a first opening configured to receive bulk fluid flow;

a second end opposite the first end, wherein the second end is closed; and

a second sidewall extending between the first end and the second end, wherein the second sidewall comprises a plurality of perforations that permit bulk air flow therethrough; and

a sorbent material disposed within the sorbent material holding sub container or adjacent to the second sidewall;

a carbon removal apparatus attachable to the carbon capture container, the carbon removal apparatus comprising a first closure configured to seal the first opening on the first end of the sorbent material holding apparatus and a second closure configured to seal the second opening on the second end of the sorbent material holding apparatus, wherein the carbon removal apparatus is configured to remove carbon dioxide from the sorbent material; and

a frame surrounding at least a portion of the sorbent material holding apparatus and configured to support the carbon capture container.

7. The carbon dioxide removal system of claim 6 , wherein the sorbent material is designed to remove carbon dioxide from the air.

8. The carbon dioxide removal system of claim 6 , wherein the first closure of the carbon removal apparatus comprises a first door and the second closure of the carbon removal apparatus comprises a second door.

9. The carbon dioxide removal system of claim 6 , further comprising:

a motor or a mechanism configured to increase and decrease a pressure inside the carbon capture container.

10. The carbon dioxide removal system of claim 6 , further comprising:

pipes or hoses that deliver heat and fluids to the carbon capture container, and

pipes or hoses that remove fluids from the carbon capture container.
