Abstract

System for present content. The system includes means for receiving a set of timepoints relating to a content data and means for generating display signals based on the content data. The system also includes means for sending display signals to a display device that represent the content data and means for notifying a server over the Internet, that a timepoint among the set of timepoints has been reached in the content data. The system also includes means for receiving, from the server, via the Internet, an identification of one or more particular additional content and in response to receiving the identification of the one or more particular additional content from the server, means for interrupting presentation of the content data; and presenting the one or more particular additional content. The system further includes means for resuming, presentation of the content data after presenting the one or more particular additional content.

Claims (47)

1. A method, comprising:

receiving, at a device, prior to generating for display a media asset, a data specifying an interval between interruptions in a presentation of the media asset;

generating, by the device, for display at least a portion of the media asset;

determining, by the device, that the interval between interruptions has elapsed in the presentation of the media asset;

requesting, by the device, additional content from at least one server;

interrupting, by the device, the display of the media asset;

causing, by the device, during the interruption, presentation of the additional content; and

after the interruption, causing, by the device, presentation of the media asset to resume.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the interval corresponds to a length of time that a media asset has been displayed.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the interval corresponds to a first portion of the media asset.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the media asset is at least one of a game, a movie, video content, or a song.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the one or more particular additional content include one or more particular advertisements.

6. The method of claim 5 , wherein the one or more particular advertisements associated with a highest bid amount from an advertiser are selected.

7. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

receiving, at the device, one or more user interface commands; and

in response to receiving the one or more user interface commands, generating for display a user interface using at least the one or more user interface commands.

8. The method of claim 1 , wherein the device causes presentation of the one or more particular additional content by retrieving the one or more particular additional content using a URL associated with the one or more particular additional content.

9. The method of claim 1 , wherein the interval between interruptions repeats for at least two equal segments.

10. An apparatus comprising:

control circuitry; and

at least one memory including computer program code for one or more programs, the at least one memory and the computer program code configured to, with the control circuitry, cause the apparatus to perform at least the following:

receive prior to generating for display a media asset, a data specifying an interval between interruptions in a presentation of the media asset;

generate for display at least a portion of the media asset;

determine that the interval between interruptions has elapsed in the presentation of the media asset;

request additional content from at least one server;

interrupt the display of the media asset;

cause during the interruption, presentation of the additional content; and

after the interruption, cause presentation of the media asset to resume.

11. The apparatus of claim 10 , wherein the interval corresponds to a length of time that a media asset has been displayed.

12. The apparatus of claim 10 , wherein the interval corresponds to a first portion of the media asset.

13. The apparatus of claim 10 , wherein the media asset is at least one of a game, a movie, video content, or a song.

14. The apparatus of claim 10 , wherein the one or more particular additional content include one or more particular advertisements.

15. The apparatus of claim 14 , wherein the one or more particular advertisements associated with a highest bid amount from an advertiser are selected.

16. The apparatus of claim 10 , wherein the apparatus if further caused to:

receive one or more user interface commands; and

in response to receiving the one or more user interface commands, generate for display a user interface using at least the one or more user interface commands.

17. The apparatus of claim 10 , wherein the apparatus if further caused to retrieving the one or more particular additional content using a URL associated with the one or more particular additional content.

18. The apparatus of claim 10 , wherein the interval between interruptions repeats for at least two equal segments.

19. A non-transitory computer-readable medium having instructions encoded thereon that, when executed by control circuitry, cause the control circuitry to:

receive prior to generating for display a media asset, a data specifying an interval between interruptions in a presentation of the media asset;

generate for display at least a portion of the media asset;

determine that the interval between interruptions has elapsed in the presentation of the media asset;

request additional content from at least one server;

interrupt the display of the media asset;

cause during the interruption, presentation of the additional content; and

after the interruption, cause presentation of the media asset to resume.

20. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 19 , wherein the media asset is at least one of a game, a movie, video content, or a song.
