Abstract

A device for occluding a vasculature of a patient including a micrograft having an absorbent polymeric structure with a lumen of transporting blood. The micrograft has a series of peaks and valleys formed by crimping. The occluding device is sufficiently small and flexible to be tracked on a guidewire and/or pushed through a microcatheter to a site within the vasculature of the patient. Delivery systems for delivering the micrografts are also disclosed.

21 . A method of treating an intracranial aneurysm comprising the steps of:

a) providing a polymeric occluding device having a lumen therein;

b) providing a delivery member supporting the occluding device;

c) inserting the delivery member with the occluding device into the intracranial aneurysm, the delivery member retaining the occluding device during delivery of the occluding device to the intracranial aneurysm;

d) leaving the occluding device in the intracranial aneurysm; and

e) delivering a blocking device into a vessel outside the intracranial aneurysm, the blocking device blocking exit of the occluding device from the intracranial aneurysm.

22 . The method of claim 21 , further comprising the step of manipulating the delivery member to maneuver the occluding device within the intracranial aneurysm.

23 . The method of claim 21 , wherein the occluding device has a permeable structure and blood enters the occluding device through a distal end of the lumen and through spaces in the permeable structure whereby the occluding device becomes saturated with blood and induces blood stagnation.

24 . The method of claim 23 , wherein the occluding device has a preset curved shape and is delivered in a substantially linear configuration and moves to the curved shape when placed within the intracranial aneurysm.

25 . The method of claim 21 , wherein the delivery member extends in a space between the blocking device and a wall of the vessel.

26 . The system of claim 21 , wherein the blocking device is positioned on a delivery member proximal of the occluding device.

27 . The system of claim 21 , wherein the delivery member extends through openings in the occluding device when the blocking device is in the vessel.
