Abstract

According to some embodiments, a skin treatment assembly comprises a tip comprising a proximal end and a distal end, a container configured to secure to the tip along the proximal end of the tip, wherein the container is configured to contain a liquid, and a porous member configured to extend at least partially within an interior of the container such that it contact a liquid contained within the container, wherein the porous member is configured to extend at least partially within an interior of the tip and is configured to facilitate the transfer of liquid from the container to the distal end of the tip.

Claims (38)

1. A handpiece for skin treatment, the handpiece comprising:

a container having an inner chamber, a first end and a second end, wherein the inner chamber is configured to contain a fluid;

a tip having a distal end and a proximal end, the distal end of the tip configured to contact skin tissue when the handpiece is in use, wherein the first end of the container is configured to secure to the proximal end of the tip;

a porous member extending from the inner chamber of the container to or near the distal end of the tip through, at least partially, an interior area of the tip;

at least one suction passageway in fluid communication with the distal end of the tip, the at least one suction passageway configured to couple to a suction source, wherein, when the at least one suction passageway is coupled to the suction source and the suction source is activated, a suction force is created along the distal end of the tip; and

at least one abrasive member or structure at or near the distal end of the tip, the at least one abrasive member or structure configured to at least partially abrade skin tissue when the handpiece is moved relative to skin tissue during a skin treatment procedure;

wherein the porous member is configured to facilitate the transfer of fluid from the inner chamber of the container to or near the distal end of the tip; and

wherein the porous member comprises at least one internal reservoir or region, wherein the at least one internal reservoir or region is configured to facilitate a passage of liquid through the porous member, and wherein the at least one internal reservoir or region includes a property that is different than a property of another portion of the porous member.

2. The handpiece of claim 1 , wherein the porous member comprises a wicking material.

3. The handpiece of claim 1 , wherein the porous member is removable and replaceable relative to the tip and the container.

4. The handpiece of claim 1 , wherein the porous member is rigid or semi-rigid.

5. The handpiece of claim 1 , wherein the porous member comprises at least one absorbent or semi-absorbent material.

6. The handpiece of claim 1 , wherein the porous member comprises at least one of a sponge, a cloth, a fabric, a porous foam and a filter.

7. The handpiece of claim 1 , wherein the at least one abrasive member or structure comprises at least one abrading member protruding distally toward the distal end of the tip.

8. The handpiece of claim 1 , wherein the at least one suction passageway terminates at an external port of the tip.

9. A handpiece for skin treatment, the handpiece comprising:

a container having an inner chamber, a first end and a second end, wherein the inner chamber is configured to contain a fluid;

a tip portion having a distal end and a proximal end, the distal end of the tip portion configured to contact skin tissue when the handpiece is in use, wherein the first end of the container is configured to secure to the proximal end of the tip portion;

a porous member extending from the inner chamber to or near the distal end of the tip portion through, at least partially, an interior of the tip portion, wherein the porous member comprises a region that facilitates a passage of fluid through the porous member from the inner chamber to or near the tip portion relative to adjacent portions of the porous member;

wherein the porous member comprises a first portion having a property that is different than a property of a second portion of the porous member;

at least one suction passageway in fluid communication with the distal end of the tip portion, the at least one suction passageway configured to couple to a suction source, wherein, when the at least one suction passageway is coupled to the suction source and the suction source is activated, a suction force is created along the distal end of the tip portion; and

a peripheral lip along the distal end of the tip portion configured to contact skin tissue and form a seal along said skin tissue;

wherein the porous member is configured to facilitate the transfer of fluid from the inner chamber of the container to or near the distal end of the tip portion.

10. The handpiece of claim 9 , wherein the porous member comprises a wicking material.

11. The handpiece of claim 9 , wherein the porous member comprises at least one absorbent or semi-absorbent material.

12. The handpiece of claim 9 , wherein the porous member comprises at least one of a sponge, a cloth, a fabric, a porous foam and a filter.

13. The handpiece of claim 9 , further comprising at least one abrasive member or structure along the distal end of the tip portion, wherein the at least one abrasive member or structure comprises at least one abrading member protruding distally toward the distal end of the tip portion.

14. The handpiece of claim 9 , wherein the at least one suction passageway terminates at an external port of the tip portion.

15. A handpiece for skin treatment, the handpiece comprising:

a container having a chamber, a first end and a second end;

a tip portion having a distal end and a proximal end, the distal end of the tip portion configured to contact skin tissue when the handpiece is in use, wherein the first end of the container is configured to secure to the proximal end of the tip portion;

a porous member extending from the chamber of the container to or near the distal end of the tip portion, wherein the porous member comprises a region that facilitates a passage of fluid through the porous member from the chamber to or near the tip portion, wherein the porous member comprises a first portion having a property that is different than a property of a second portion of the porous member; and

at least one suction passageway in fluid communication with the distal end of the tip portion, the at least one suction passageway configured to couple to a suction source;

wherein the porous member is configured to facilitate the transfer of fluid from the chamber of the container to or near the distal end of the tip portion.

16. The handpiece of claim 15 , wherein the porous member comprises a wicking material.

17. The handpiece of claim 15 , wherein the porous member comprises at least one absorbent or semi-absorbent material.

18. The handpiece of claim 15 , further comprising at least one abrasive member or structure along the distal end of the tip portion, wherein the at least one abrasive member or structure comprises at least one abrading member protruding distally toward the distal end of the tip portion.
