Abstract

A support for holding an electronic device, such as a cellular telephone, that attaches to the electronic device with a magnetic connector. The support may have support arms that can grip the electronic device. A magnetic mounting surface may include an annular magnet at its outer area, which is adapted to magnetically hold an electronic device such as a cellular telephone. The support arms may be able to move from a first position perpendicular to the magnetic mounting surface to a second positions parallel to the magnetic mounting surface. The support arms may be extendible from a central portion and this extension may be resisted by internal springs. A cellular telephone may be held within the extended arms to provide gripping support to the telephone. In the parallel configuration, the extendable arms may provide a further mounting surface for stability of the phone on its magnetic mounting surface.

Claims (45)

1. A magnetic gripping clip for an electronic device, said magnetic gripping clip comprising:

a main post, said main post having a first end and a second end;

a cross bracket, said cross bracket centrally coupled along a back surface to said first end of said main post;

a first extension arm on a first side of said cross bracket;

a second extension arm of a second side of said cross bracket;

a first gripping arm coupled to said first extension arm;

a second gripping arm coupled to said second extension arm; and

a magnetic connection body, said magnetic connection body comprising:

a flat mounting surface on a first side; and

a magnet within said magnetic connection body under said flat mounting surface,

wherein said first extension arm is extendable from said cross bracket, and wherein said second extension arm is extendable from said cross bracket, and wherein said first gripping arm is rotatable from a first position parallel to said flat mounting surface to a second position perpendicular to said flat mounting surface, and wherein said second gripping arm is rotatable from a first position parallel to said flat mounting surface to a second position perpendicular to said flat mounting surface.

2. The magnetic gripping clip of claim 1 wherein the extension of said first extension arm from said cross bracket is resisted by a spring, and wherein the extension of said second extension arm from said cross bracket is resisted by a spring.

3. The magnetic gripping clip of claim 1 wherein said first gripping arm comprises a resilient portion along a device mounting surface of said first gripping clip, and wherein said second gripping arm comprises a resilient portion along a device mounting surface of said second gripping clip.

4. The magnetic gripping clip of claim 2 wherein said first gripping arm comprises a resilient portion along a device mounting surface of said first gripping clip, and wherein said second gripping arm comprises a resilient portion along a device mounting surface of said second gripping clip.

5. A magnetic gripping clip for an electronic device, said magnetic gripping clip comprising:

a main post, said main post having a first end and a second end;

a cross bracket, said cross bracket centrally coupled along a back surface to said first end of said main post; and

a magnetic connection body, said magnetic connection body comprising:

a flat mounting surface on a first side;

a magnet within said magnetic connection body under said flat mounting surface;

a first extension arm on a first side of said cross bracket;

a second extension arm of a second side of said cross bracket;

a first gripping arm coupled to said first extension arm; and

a second gripping arm coupled to said second extension arm,

wherein said first extension arm is extendable from said cross bracket, and wherein said second extension arm is extendable from said cross bracket, and wherein said first gripping arm is rotatable from a first position parallel to said flat mounting surface to a second position perpendicular to said flat mounting surface, and wherein said second gripping arm is rotatable from a first position parallel to said flat mounting surface to a second position perpendicular to said flat mounting surface, and wherein said first gripping arm comprises a resilient portion along a device mounting surface of said first gripping clip, and wherein said second gripping arm comprises a resilient portion along a device mounting surface of said second gripping clip, and wherein said cross bracket is rotatably coupled to said main post.

6. A magnetic gripping clip for an electronic device, said magnetic gripping clip comprising:

a main post, said main post having a first end and a second end;

a cross bracket, said cross bracket centrally coupled along a back surface to said first end of said main post; and

a magnetic connection body, said magnetic connection body comprising:

a flat mounting surface on a first side;

a magnet within said magnetic connection body under said flat mounting surface;

a first extension arm on a first side of said cross bracket;

a second extension arm of a second side of said cross bracket;

a first gripping arm coupled to said first extension arm; and

a second gripping arm coupled to said second extension arm,

wherein said first extension arm is extendable from said cross bracket, and wherein said second extension arm is extendable from said cross bracket, and wherein the extension of said first extension arm from said cross bracket is resisted by a spring, and wherein the extension of said second extension arm from said cross bracket is resisted by a spring, and wherein said first gripping arm is rotatable from a first position parallel to said flat mounting surface to a second position perpendicular to said flat mounting surface, and wherein said second gripping arm is rotatable from a first position parallel to said flat mounting surface to a second position perpendicular to said flat mounting surface, and wherein said first gripping arm comprises a resilient portion along a device mounting surface of said first gripping clip, and wherein said second gripping arm comprises a resilient portion along a device mounting surface of said second gripping clip, and wherein said cross bracket is rotatably coupled to said main post.

7. The magnetic gripping clip of claim 1 wherein said main post comprises a threaded mounting insert on a bottom surface of said main post.

8. The magnetic gripping clip of claim 3 wherein said main post comprises a threaded mounting insert on a bottom surface of said main post.

9. The magnetic gripping clip of claim 5 wherein said main post comprises a threaded mounting insert on a bottom surface of said main post.

10. The magnetic gripping clip of claim 6 wherein said main post comprises a threaded mounting insert on a bottom surface of said main post.

11. The magnetic gripping clip of claim 9 wherein said main post comprises one or more threaded mounting inserts along its side surface.

12. The magnetic gripping clip of claim 10 wherein said main post comprises one or more threaded mounting inserts along its side surface.

13. The magnetic gripping clip of claim 1 where said magnet is an annular magnet under an outer area of said flat mounting surface.

14. The magnetic gripping clip of claim 6 where said magnet is an annular magnet under an outer area of said flat mounting surface.

15. The magnetic gripping clip of claim 10 where said magnet is an annular magnet under an outer area of said flat mounting surface.
