Abstract

A method for generating a digital ID comprising capturing one or more user images of user's face, transmitting the one or more user images or data derived therefrom to a verification server and determining if the one or more images represent a live person. Capturing an ID image of a photo identification for the user and transmitting the ID image to the verification server. Comparing at least one of the one or more user images or data derived therefrom to the image of the user on the photo identification to determine if user in the one or more user images is the same person as the image on the photo identification. Responsive to a match from the comparing and a determination that a live person was captured in the one or more user images, generating a user digital ID and transmitting the user digital ID to the user.

Claims (57)

1. A method for generating a digital ID for a user comprising:

capturing a first image with a camera located a first distance from a face the user and capturing a second image with the camera located a second distance from the face of the user, such that the first distance is different than the second distance;

transmitting the first image and the second image, a portion of the first image and the second image, or or data derived from the first image and the second image to a verification server and performing liveness verification thereon to determine if the first image and the second image are of a live person;

responsive to determining that the user in the first image and the second image is a live person, capturing an image of a user's identification, the identification having an image of the user on the identification;

transmitting the image of the identification to the verification sever;

comparing the first image, the second image, or both or data derived from the first image, the second image, or both to the image of the user on the identification or data derived from the image of the user on the identification to determine if there is a match;

responsive to a match, generating a digital ID, the digital ID having one or more of the following shown thereon: image of the user's identification, image of the user, user's email address used to receive the digital ID; and

providing the digital ID to the user.

2. The method of claim 1 wherein capture of the first image and the second image occurs with a mobile computing device.

3. The method of claim 1 wherein comparing first image, the second image, or both or data derived from the first image, the second image, or both to the image of the user on the identification or data derived from the image of the user on the identification comprises using one or more face matching algorithms.

4. The method of claim 1 further comprising analyzing the image on the identification against an identification template for identifications have a same format to determine if the image on identification matches the identification template.

5. The method of claim 1 wherein the method is performed by an application software executing on a mobile computing device and the providing the digital ID to the user comprises sending an email to the user with an attachment, the attachment being the digital ID as an image file.

6. The method of claim 1 further comprising processing the digital ID to generate a first value, the first value unique to the processing of the user's digital ID.

7. The method of claim 6 , wherein the processing comprises a hash function.

8. The method of claim 6 further comprising:

receiving a digital ID copy from a third party at the verification server as part of a verification request by the third party, the third party receiving the digital ID copy from the user as part of the user providing assurance as to the identify of the user to the third party;

processing the digital ID copy to generate a second value, the second value unique to the processing of the digital ID copy;

comparing the first value to the second value;

responsive to a match between the first value and the second value, providing notice to the third party of verification of the digital ID copy;

responsive to a non-match between the first value and the second value, providing notice to the third party of non-verification of the digital ID copy.

9. A method for generating a digital ID and verifying the digital ID comprising:

capturing a first image with a camera located a first distance from a face the user and capturing a second image with the camera located a second distance from the face of the user, such that the first distance is different than the second distance, wherein the first image and the second image are captured images;

transmitting the captured images or data derived therefrom to a verification server;

determining if the captured images or data derived therefrom, represent a live person;

capturing an ID image of a photo identification of the user, the photo identification having an image of the user;

transmitting the ID image of the photo identification or data derived therefrom to the verification server;

comparing captured images or data derived therefrom to the image of the user on the photo identification or data derived therefrom to determine if user in the captured images are of a same person as the image on the photo identification;

responsive to a match from the comparing and a determination that a live person was captured in the captured images, generating a user digital ID and transmitting the user digital ID to the user;

receiving a received digital ID from a third party at the verification server, the third party seeking to validate the received digital ID;

before or after receiving the received digital ID from the third party, processing the user digital ID to generate a first value unique for the user digital ID;

processing the received digital ID to generate a second value unique for the received digital ID;

comparing the first value to the second value to determine; and

responsive to the first value matching the second value, sending a verification to the third party that the received digital ID has not been altered from the user digital ID.

10. The method of claim 9 wherein the user digital ID and the received digital ID includes at least two of the items selected from the following list: image of the user's identification, image of the user, user's email address used to receive the user digital ID, and information that the image of the user was of a live person and that the one or more images match the image of the user on the identification.

11. The method of claim 9 wherein the processing of the user digital ID and the received digital ID is a hash function.

12. The method of claim 9 further comprising analyzing the ID image of the photo identification against a template of an identification have a same format to determine if the ID image of photo identification matches the template.

13. The method of claim 9 wherein the method is performed by an application software executing on a mobile computing device and the providing the digital ID to the user comprises sending an email to the user with an attachment, the attachment being the digital ID as a file.

14. The method of claim 9 wherein the processing comprises a hash function.

15. A system for generating a digital ID comprising:

a verification server configured to:

receive a user email address from a user seeking a digital ID;

receive, from the user, two or more images representing the user seeking the digital ID, or data derived from the two or more images, wherein the two or more images comprises a first image captured with a camera located a first distance from a face of the user and a second image captured with the camera located a second distance from the face of the user, such that the first distance is different than the second distance;

processing the two or more images of the user to determine if the two or more images representing the user are of a live person;

responsive to the processing determining that the two or more images representing the user are of a live person, requesting an ID image comprising an image of a photo identification for the user, the photo identification including a photo of the user;

receiving the image of the ID image from the user;

processing the photo of the user on ID image and at least one of the two or more images of the user to determine if the photo of the user on the ID image is of the same person as the user shown in the at least one of the two or more images;

responsive to the photo of the user being the same person as in at least one of the two or more images, generating a user digital ID;

processing the user digital ID to generate a first value that is unique to the user digital ID; and

sending the digital ID to the user seeking the digital ID.

16. The system of claim 15 wherein the digital ID is an electronic file that, when displayed on a monitor, includes the photo identification, at least one of the two more images of the user, and the user email address.

17. The system of claim 15 wherein the verification server receives the two or more images, or data derived from the two or more images, and the ID image, or data representing the ID image, from an application executing on a user's mobile device or through a web portal.

18. The system of claim 15 , wherein the verification server is further configured to:

receive a digital ID copy from a third party as part of a verification request by the third party, the third party receiving the digital ID copy from the user;

processing the digital ID copy to generate a second value that is unique to the digital ID copy;

comparing the first value to the second value;

responsive to the first value being the same as the second value, providing notice to the third party of verification of the digital ID copy; and

responsive to the first value being different than the second value, providing notice to the third party that the digital ID copy can not be verified.
