Abstract

A device according to one embodiment includes a memory for storing information, wherein the device is operatively coupled to an electrical system of a vehicle via a wireless connection, wherein a presence of the device is required in order to start the vehicle.

Claims (27)

1. A device, comprising:

a memory storing information relating to an owner of a vehicle;

control circuitry coupled to the memory;

a rechargeable battery for providing power to the control circuitry; and

a display device coupled to the control circuitry for displaying at least a portion of the information relating to the owner of the vehicle;

wherein the device is configured to become operatively coupled to an electrical system of the vehicle via a wireless connection when the device is in an interior of the vehicle,

wherein the device is configured to be removable from the interior of the vehicle,

wherein a presence of the device is required in order to start the vehicle.

2. The device of claim 1 , wherein removal of the device causes disablement of the vehicle.

3. The device of claim 1 , wherein access to one or more portions of the information stored within the device is selectively allowed based on a received security code.

4. The device of claim 1 , wherein the information includes an owner identification.

5. The device of claim 1 , wherein the information includes a registration number associated with the vehicle.

6. The device of claim 1 , wherein the device recognizes and responds to a signal from an interrogator.

7. The device of claim 1 , further comprising a security encryption circuit.

8. The device of claim 1 , wherein the device further comprises a first power source.

9. The device of claim 1 , wherein the information includes a serial number.

10. The device of claim 1 , wherein the information includes a vehicle identification number (VIN).

11. The device of claim 1 , wherein the information includes a password for a secret handshake.

12. The device of claim 1 , wherein the information includes user programmable information.

13. A device, comprising:

a memory storing information relating to an owner of a vehicle;

control circuitry coupled to the memory;

a rechargeable battery for providing power to the control circuitry,

a display device coupled to the control circuitry for displaying at least a portion of the information relating to the owner of the vehicle;

wherein the device is configured to become operatively coupled to an electrical system of the vehicle via a wireless connection when the device is in an interior of the vehicle,

wherein the device is configured to be removable from the interior of the vehicle,

wherein starting of the vehicle is enabled when the device is operatively coupled to the electrical system of the vehicle.
