Abstract

The present invention essentially comprises an application, software, system, method and combinations thereof that allow using a mobile phone's location-determining capabilities, compass, and camera, an application on the mobile device that can be used to display characteristics of weather within a predetermined distance from the mobile device by querying a remote server to gather information on the attributes about the weather within the predetermined radius of the device location.

Claims (41)

1 . A method of providing weather information, the method comprising:

determining a first geographical location, the first geographical location being a current location of a first mobile device;

determining a first direction, the first direction being associated with an orientation of the first mobile device;

determining a second geographical location, the second geographic location being a current location of associated with a first weather feature, wherein the second geographical location is determined based on the first geographical location and the first direction; and

providing to the first mobile device gathered information, the gathered information including weather information associated with the first weather feature.

2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the gathered information comprises an image of the first weather feature, the image being configured for display on a display screen of the first mobile device.

3 . The method of claim 2 , wherein a distance between the first and second geographical locations is greater than a visibility distance associated with the first and second locations.

4 . The method of claim 2 , wherein an obstruction positioned between the first and second geographical locations obscures a view of the first weather feature.

5 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the gathered information includes at least one of radar data, satellite data, observation data, weather watches, weather warnings, weather reports from weather spotters, weather reports from the general public, and weather analytics.

6 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the gathered information includes speed of motion and direction of the first weather feature.

7 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the first geographical location is displaced from the second geographical location.

8 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising receiving device information from the mobile device, the device information comprising a first compass heading, the first compass heading being associated with the first direction.

9 . The method of claim 8 , wherein the first compass heading is calculated while a camera of the mobile device is pointing in the direction of the first weather feature and wherein the gathered information comprises the second geographical location.

10 . The method of claim 9 , further comprising identifying the first weather feature based on the first geographical location and the first compass heading.

11 . The method of claim 8 , further comprising identifying the first weather feature based on the first geographical location and the first compass heading.

12 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the gathered information comprises the second geographical location.

13 . The method of claim 12 , further comprising identifying the first weather feature based on the first geographical location and the first compass heading.

14 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising identifying the first weather feature based on the first geographical location and the first compass heading.

15 . A method of providing weather information, the method comprising:

receiving device information from a first mobile device, the device information including:

a first geographical location, the first geographical location being a current location of the first mobile device; and

a first direction, the first direction being associated with an orientation of the first mobile device; and

identifying a first weather feature, the first weather feature being positioned at a second geographical location, the second geographical location being displaced from the first geographical location in the first direction; and

providing to the first mobile device gathered information, the gathered information including weather information associated with the first weather feature.

16 . The method of claim 15 , wherein the gathered information comprises an image of the first weather feature, the image being configured for display on a display screen of the first mobile device.

17 . The method of claim 16 , wherein a distance between the first and second geographical locations is greater than a visibility distance associated with the first and second locations.

18 . The method of claim 16 , wherein an obstruction positioned between the first and second geographical locations obscures a view of the first weather feature.

19 . The method of claim 16 , wherein the device information comprises a first compass heading, wherein the first compass heading is associated with the first direction, wherein the first compass heading is calculated while a camera of the mobile device is pointing in the direction of the first weather feature, and wherein the gathered information comprises the second geographical location.

20 . The method of claim 19 , wherein identifying the first weather feature comprises utilizing the first compass heading and the first geographical location.

21 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising receiving a selection input from the user, the selection input being generated upon the user selecting the first weather feature, wherein selecting the first weather feature comprises:

positioning and orienting the first mobile device so that the first weather feature is displayed within a view frame of the first mobile device; and

doing at least one of:

centering the first weather feature within the view frame; and

touching a selected region of the view frame, wherein the first weather feature is displayed within the selected region of the view frame.

The method of claim 21 , further comprising requesting confirmation of the selection input after providing to the first mobile device the gathered information, wherein the method further comprises requesting the user to make a new selection upon receiving a negative confirmation of the selection input, and wherein the method further comprises providing additional gathered information associated with the first weather feature upon receiving a positive confirmation of the selection input.

23 . The method of claim 15 , wherein identifying the first weather feature comprises receiving a selection input from the first mobile device, the selection input being generated upon a user selecting the first weather feature, wherein selecting the first weather feature comprises:

positioning and orienting the first mobile device so that the first weather feature is displayed within a view frame of the first mobile device; and

doing at least one of:

centering the first weather feature within the view frame; and

touching a selected region of the view frame, wherein the first weather feature is displayed within the selected region of the view frame.

The method of claim 23 , further comprising requesting confirmation of the selection input after providing to the first mobile device the gathered information, wherein the method further comprises requesting the user to make a new selection upon receiving a negative confirmation of the selection input, and wherein the method further comprises providing additional gathered information associated with the first weather feature upon receiving a positive confirmation of the selection input.
