Abstract

A system for delivery of gas to a tissue, comprises: a first container containing the gas, an applicator having a distal end arranged to deliver the gas to the tissue, a second container containing a purging gas, and; and a flow control system for controlling flow of gas. The system also comprises a three-port valve having a first port for receiving the gas from the first container, a second port for receiving the purging gas from the second container, and a third port in fluid communication with the applicator. The valve is switchable between a first state at which the first port fluidly connects to the third port, and a second state at which the second port fluidly connects to the third port.

Claims (39)

1. A system for delivery of gas to a tissue, the system comprising:

a first container containing the gas;

an applicator having a distal end arranged to deliver the gas to the tissue;

a second container containing a purging gas;

a three-port valve having a first port for receiving the gas from said first container, a second port for receiving the purging gas from said second container, and a third port in fluid communication with said applicator, said valve being switchable between a first state at which said first port fluidly connects to said third port, and a second state at which said second port fluidly connects to said third port;

a flow control system for controlling flow of gas exiting said third port; and

a computerized controller for automatically controlling said flow control system, according to at least one of: a predetermined gas flow rate, a predetermined total amount of the gas flowing through said flow control system, and a predetermined total amount of time in which said gas flows through said flow control system;

wherein said flow control system comprises a digital flow controller configured for controlling flow in a closed loop according to a pseudo-derivative tuning coefficient and a proportional tuning coefficient, and

wherein said computerized controller is configured to receive, via a user interface, input flow rate of the gas, and to automatically select said tuning coefficients based on said input.

2. The system according to claim 1 , wherein said applicator and said first container are disposable.

3. The system according to claim 1 , comprising a suctioning device arranged to apply suction at a vicinity of said distal end of said applicator to withdraw excess gas exiting said distal end.

4. The system according to claim 3 , comprising a filter for filtering said withdrawn excess gas.

5. The system according to claim 1 , wherein said digital flow control system comprises a flow controller and a flow limiter for limiting flow rate of the gas before entering said flow controller.

6. The system according to claim 1 , comprising an adjustable pressure regulator, in fluid communication with said third port of said valve, and being configured for maintaining a pressure which is below a predetermined threshold when said valve assumes said first state, and a pressure which is above said predetermined threshold when said valve assumes said second state.

7. The system according to claim 1 , wherein said digital flow controller is configured for controlling said flow in said closed loop also according to an integral tuning coefficient, and said computerized controller is configured to automatically select said integral tuning coefficient based on said input.

8. The system according to claim 1 , wherein said computerized controller is configured to select for said proportional tuning coefficient a value which is higher for lower input flow rates than for higher input flow rates.

9. The system according to claim 1 , wherein said computerized controller is configured to select for said pseudo-derivative tuning coefficient a value which is lower for lower input flow rates than for higher input flow rates.

10. The system according to claim 1 , further comprising an arrangement of sensors, the arrangement of sensors configured to be distributed in a treatment room and to sense said gas within said treatment room and configured to issue an alert signal when a level of the gas is above a respective predetermined threshold.

11. The system according to claim 1 , further comprising an arrangement of sensors, the arrangement of sensors configured to be distributed in a treatment room to sense said gas within said treatment room, wherein said computerized controller is configured to receive sensing signals from said sensors and issue an alert signal when a level of the gas is above a respective predetermined threshold.

12. The system according to claim 1 , wherein said first container has a volume of less than 100 cc.

13. The system according to claim 1 , wherein the gas is gaseous nitric oxide (gNO).

14. The system according to claim 1 , wherein the purging gas is nitrogen or argon.

15. A method for delivery of gas to a tissue, the method comprising:

in the system according to claim 1 :

connecting said first container to said valve;

switching said valve to said first state, thereby delivering the gas to the tissue;

disconnecting said applicator and said first container; and

switching said valve to said second state, thereby purging at least said flow control system.

16. The method according to claim 15 , comprising applying suction at a vicinity of said distal end of said applicator to withdraw excess gas exiting said distal end.

17. The method according to claim 15 , being executed by an operator, and comprising delivering air or oxygen or oxygen-enriched air to said operator.

18. The method according to claim 15 , wherein the tissue is a tissue of a subject, and the method comprising delivering air or oxygen or oxygen-enriched air to said subject.

19. The method according to claim 15 , wherein said purging comprises applying multiple pressurize and depressurize cycles, followed by continuous flow of said purging gas.

20. A method for delivery of gas to a tissue, the method comprising:

in the system according to claim 2 :

connecting said first container to said valve;

switching said valve to said first state, thereby delivering the gas to the tissue;

disconnecting said applicator and said first container; and

switching said valve to said second state, thereby purging at least said flow control system.

21. The method according to claim 20 , comprising applying suction at a vicinity of said distal end of said applicator to withdraw excess gas exiting said distal end.
