Abstract

In a method for processing point cloud data according to embodiments, point cloud data can be encoded and transmitted to a bitstream. In a method for processing point cloud data according to embodiments, a bitstream comprising point cloud data can be received, and the point cloud data can be decoded.

Claims (74)

1. A method for processing point cloud data, the method comprising:

encoding the point cloud data including geometry information and attribute information,

wherein the geometry information represents positions of points of the point cloud data and the attribute information represents attributes of the points of the point cloud data,

wherein the encoding the point cloud data includes encoding the geometry information and encoding the attribute information,

wherein the encoding the attribute information includes generating at least one level of detail (LOD),

wherein the generating at least one LOD includes sampling at least one point in a sampling range based on an octree, and

wherein the sampling includes a grouping operation based on a number of points within the sampling range and an assigning operation of one point based on the grouping operation; and

transmitting a bitstream including the encoded point cloud data.

2. The method of claim 1 ,

wherein the grouping operation includes grouping the sampling range and at least one other sampling range based on the number of points of the sampling range,

wherein the grouping includes comparing the number of points of the sampling range with a specific minimum number,

wherein, based on the number of points of the sampling range being less than the specific minimum number, the sampling range is grouped with the at least one other sampling range, and

wherein the sampling range corresponds to at least one node of the octree.

3. The method of claim 1 ,

wherein the bitstream includes first information representing types of sampling methods to generate the at least one LOD,

wherein the first information includes a first type of sampling methods representing the sampling range based on the octree,

wherein, based on the first information indicating the first type of sampling methods, one point is sampled from the sampling range to generate the at least one LOD, and

wherein the bitstream includes second information related to a sampling period.

4. A device configured to process for processing point cloud data, the device comprising:

an encoder configured to encode the point cloud data including geometry information and attribute information,

wherein the geometry information represents positions of points of the point cloud data and the attribute information represents attributes of the points of the point cloud data,

wherein the encoder includes a first encoder configured to encode the geometry information,

wherein the encoder includes a second encoder configured to encode the attribute information,

wherein the second encoder includes a level of detail (LOD) generator configured to generate at least one LOD,

wherein the LOD generator is configured to perform sampling at least one point in a sampling range based on an octree, and

wherein the LOD generator is configured to perform a grouping operation based on a number of points within the sampling range and an assigning operation of one point based on the grouping operation; and

a transmitter configured to transmit a bitstream including the encoded point cloud data.

5. The device of claim 4 ,

wherein the LOD generator is configured to group the sampling range and at least one other sampling range based on the number of points of the sampling range,

wherein the LOD generator is configured to compare the number of points of the sampling range with a specific minimum number,

wherein, based on the number of points of the sampling range being less than the specific minimum number, the sampling range is grouped with the at least one other sampling range, and

wherein the sampling range corresponds to at least one node of the octree.

6. The device of claim 4 ,

wherein the bitstream includes first information representing types of sampling methods to generate the at least one LOD.

7. The device of claim 6 ,

wherein the first information includes a first type of sampling methods representing the sampling range based on the octree,

wherein, based on the first information indicating the first type of sampling methods, one point is sampled from the sampling range to generate the at least one LOD, and

wherein the bitstream includes second information related to a sampling period.

8. A method of processing point cloud data, the method comprising:

receiving a bitstream including the point cloud data, wherein the point cloud data includes geometry information and attribute information, and wherein the geometry information represents positions of points of the point cloud data and the attribute information represents attributes of the points of the point cloud data; and

decoding the point cloud data,

wherein the decoding the point cloud data includes decoding the geometry information and decoding the attribute information,

wherein the decoding the attribute information includes generating at least one level of detail (LOD),

wherein the generating at least one LOD includes sampling at least one point in a sampling range based on an octree, and

wherein the sampling includes a grouping operation based on a number of points within the sampling range and an assigning operation of one point based on the grouping operation.

9. The method of claim 8 ,

wherein the grouping operation includes grouping the sampling range and at least one other sampling range based on the number of points of the sampling range,

wherein the grouping includes comparing the number of points of the sampling range with a specific minimum number,

wherein, based on the number of points of the sampling range being less than the specific minimum number, the sampling range is grouped with the at least one other sampling range, and

wherein the sampling range corresponds to at least one node of the octree.

10. The method of claim 9 ,

wherein the bitstream includes first information representing types of sampling methods to generate the at least one LOD,

wherein the first information includes a first type of sampling methods representing the sampling range based on the octree,

wherein, based on the first information indicating the first type of sampling methods, one point is sampled from the sampling range to generate the at least one LOD, and

wherein the bitstream includes second information related to a sampling period.

11. A device of processing point cloud data, the device comprising:

a receiver configured to receive a bitstream including the point cloud data, wherein the point cloud data includes geometry information and attribute information, and wherein the geometry information represents positions of points of the point cloud data and the attribute information represents attributes of the points of the point cloud data; and

a decoder configured to decode the point cloud data,

wherein the decoder includes a first decoder configured to decode the geometry information,

wherein the decoder includes a second decoder configured to decode the attribute information,

wherein the second decoder includes a level of detail (LOD) LOD (Level of Detail) generator configured to generate at least one LOD,

wherein the LOD generator is configured to perform sampling at least one point in a sampling range based on an octree, and

wherein the LOD generator is configured to perform a grouping operation based on a number of points within the sampling range and an assigning operation of one point based on the grouping operation.

12. The device of claim 11 ,

wherein the LOD generator is configured to group the sampling range and at least one other sampling range based on the number of points of the sampling range,

wherein the LOD generator is configured to compare the number of points of the sampling range with a specific minimum number,

wherein, based on the number of points of the sampling range being less than the specific minimum number, the sampling range is grouped with the at least one other sampling range, and

wherein the sampling range corresponds to at least one node of the octree.

13. The device of claim 12 ,

wherein the bitstream includes first information representing types of sampling methods to generate the at least one LOD,

wherein the first information includes a first type of sampling methods representing the sampling range based on the octree, and

wherein, based on the first information indicating the first type of sampling methods, one point is sampled from the sampling range to generate the at least one LOD.

14. The device of claim 13 ,

wherein the bitstream includes second information related to a sampling period.
