Abstract

A wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) may determine a first set of beams and a second set of beams, that a respective quality of each beam in the first set of beams is less than a predetermined quality value, and that a beam that is in the second set of beams and not in the first set of beams has a quality that is equal to or greater than the predetermined quality value. The WTRU may select the beam that is in the second set of beams and not in the first set of beams and whose quality is equal to or greater than the predetermined quality value, for a BFR and send a message that indicates the selected beam for the BFR to abase station (e.g., a gNodeB). The WTRU may receive a message comprising the selected beam from the gNodeB.

Claims (43)

1. A wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) comprising:

a processor configured to:

determine a first set of beams associated with monitoring for a physical downlink control channel transmission;

determine a second set of beams associated with monitoring for a type of signal, wherein the second set of beams is a subset of the first set of beams;

determine that:

a respective quality of each beam in the second set of beams is less than a predetermined quality value, and

a beam that is in the first set of beams and not in the second set of beams has a quality that is equal to or greater than the predetermined quality value;

select the beam that is in the first set of beams and not in the second set of beams and whose quality is equal to or greater than the predetermined quality value, for a beam failure recovery (BFR);

monitor for a wake-up signal (WUS) using the second set of beams before a discontinuous reception (DRX)-on;

monitor the physical downlink control channel transmission during the DRX-on using the first set of beams, wherein the BFR comprises a WUS-BFR;

perform the WUS-BFR by skipping decoding of the WUS; and

monitor for the WUS using the selected beam based on a message received from a base station.

2. The WTRU of claim 1 , wherein the processor is configured to:

send a first message that indicates the selected beam for the BFR; and

receive a second message that indicates the selected beam.

3. The WTRU of claim 2 , wherein the first message is sent to a base station, and the second message is received from the base station.

4. The WTRU of claim 1 , wherein the processor is configured to receive a reconfiguration message that indicates a third set of beams associated with monitoring for the type of signal, wherein the third set of beams is different from the second set of beams.

5. The WTRU of claim 1 , wherein the processor is configured to receive a reconfiguration message, wherein the reconfiguration message indicates that the selected beam is to be included in the second set of beams.

6. The WTRU of claim 1 , wherein the respective quality of each beam in the second set of beams is determined during a first time period, and the quality of the beam that is in the first set of beams and not in the second set of beams is determined during a second time period, wherein the second time period is subsequent to the first time period.

7. The WTRU of claim 1 , wherein the respective quality of each beam in the second set of beams is determined during a first time period, and the quality of the beam that is in the first set of beams and not in the second set of beams is determined during a second time period, wherein the first time period and the second time period overlap in time.

8. The WTRU of claim 1 , wherein the processor is configured to:

monitor the second set of beams for the type of signal, and the BFR is for a beam failure in association with monitoring for the type of signal, wherein the beam failure differs from a radio link failure associated with using the second set of beams.

9. A method comprising:

determining a first set of beams associated with monitoring for a physical downlink control channel transmission;

determining a second set of beams associated with monitoring for a type of signal, wherein the second set of beams is a subset of the first set of beams;

determining that:

a respective quality of each beam in the second set of beams is less than a predetermined quality value, and

a beam that is in the first set of beams and not in the second set of beams has a quality that is equal to or greater than the predetermined quality value;

selecting the beam that is in the first set of beams and not in the second set of beams and whose quality is equal to or greater than the predetermined quality value, for a beam failure recovery (BFR);

monitoring for a wake-up signal (WUS) using the second set of beams before a discontinuous reception (DRX)-on;

monitoring the physical downlink control channel transmission during the DRX-on using the first set of beams, wherein the BFR comprises a WUS-BFR;

performing the WUS-BFR by skipping decoding of the WUS; and

monitoring for the WUS using the selected beam based on a message received from a base station.

10. The method of claim 9 , further comprising:

sending a first message that indicates the selected beam for the BFR; and

receiving a second message that indicates the selected beam.

11. The method of claim 10 , wherein the first message is sent to a base station, and the second message is received from the base station.

12. The method of claim 9 , further comprising receiving a reconfiguration message that indicates a third set of beams associated with monitoring for the type of signal, wherein the third set of beams is different from the second set of beams.

13. The method of claim 9 , further comprising receiving a reconfiguration message, wherein the reconfiguration message indicates that the selected beam is to be included in the second set of beams.

14. The method of claim 9 , wherein the respective quality of each beam in the second set of beams is determined during a first time period, and the quality of the beam that is in the first set of beams and not in the second set of beams is determined during a second time period, wherein the second time period is subsequent to the first time period.

15. The method of claim 9 , wherein the respective quality of each beam in the second set of beams is determined during a first time period, and the quality of the beam that is in the first set of beams and not in the second set of beams is determined during a second time period, wherein the first time period and the second time period overlap in time.

16. The method of claim 9 , further comprising monitoring the second set of beams for the type of signal, and the BFR is for a beam failure in association with monitoring for the type of signal, wherein the beam failure differs from a radio link failure associated with using the second set of beams.

17. A non-transitory computer readable medium storing instructions, which, when executed by one or more processors, cause the one or more processors to perform the method of claim 9 .
