Abstract

A method for simulating a candle flame with at least one computing device. The method may include controlling at least one lighting element according to at least a current wind value and a current flame value. The method may include controlling the current wind value and the current flame value by iteratively determining whether a first event occurred. When the first event is determined to have occurred, the method may include setting the current wind value to a random wind value and then changing the current wind value toward a baseline wind value. When the first event is determined to have not occurred, the method may include changing the current wind value toward the baseline wind value, determining whether a second event occurred. When the second event is determined to have occurred, the method may include setting the current flame value to a random flame value.

Claims (35)

1. A method for simulating a candle flame with at least one computing device, the method comprising:

controlling at least one lighting element according to at least a current wind value and a current flame value; and

controlling the current wind value and the current flame value by iteratively:

determining whether a first event occurred, a probability of the occurrence of the first event depending on a wind agility;

when the first event is determined to have occurred, setting the current wind value to a random wind value and then changing the current wind value toward a baseline wind value;

when the first event is determined to have not occurred, changing the current wind value toward the baseline wind value;

determining whether a second event occurred; and

when the second event is determined to have occurred, setting the current flame value to a random flame value.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the step of controlling the current wind value and the current flame value further comprises setting the current wind value to an initial wind value based on the wind agility.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the step of controlling the current wind value and the current flame value further comprises setting the current flame value to an initial flame value based on a flame maximum value.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the step of changing the current wind value toward a baseline wind value comprises changing the current wind value at a logarithmic rate.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the step of controlling the current wind value and the current flame value further comprises increasing the current flame value towards a flame maximum value after determining whether the first event occurred and before determining whether the second event occurred.

6. The method of claim 5 , wherein the step of increasing the current flame value toward a flame maximum value comprises changing the current flame value at a logarithmic rate.

7. The method of claim 1 , wherein the probability of the second event occurring is based on the current wind value.

8. The method of claim 1 , further comprising adding a vibration effect.

9. The method of claim 8 , wherein the step of adding the vibration effect comprises oscillating the current flame value.

10. The method of claim 8 , wherein the step of adding the vibration effect comprises setting a flame oscillation constant.

11. The method of claim 1 , wherein the random wind value and random flame value are determined pseudo-randomly.

12. A method for simulating a candle flame with at least one computing device, the method comprising:

controlling a brightness level of at least one lighting element according to at least a plurality of flame characteristics, the plurality of flame characteristics comprising a current wind value;

adjusting a wind agility based on at least external weather conditions;

controlling the current wind value, by iteratively:

determining whether a first event occurred, a probability of the occurrence of the first event depending on the wind agility;

when the first event is determined to have occurred, setting the current wind value to a random wind value and then changing the current wind value toward a baseline wind value;

when the first event is determined to have not occurred, changing the current wind value toward the baseline wind value;

determining whether a second event occurred, a probability of the occurrence of the second event depending on the current wind value; and

when the second event is determined to have occurred, setting one of the plurality of flame characteristics to a random value.

13. The method of claim 12 , wherein the step of controlling the current wind value further comprises setting the current wind value to an initial wind value based on the wind agility.

14. The method of claim 12 , wherein the step of changing the current wind value toward a baseline wind value comprises changing the current wind value at a logarithmic rate.

15. The method of claim 12 , further comprising adding a vibration effect.

16. The method of claim 15 , wherein the step of adding the vibration effect comprises oscillating at least one of the plurality of flame characteristics.

17. The method of claim 15 , wherein the step of adding the vibration effect comprises setting a flame oscillation constant.

18. The method of claim 12 , wherein the random wind value is determined pseudo-randomly.

19. The method of claim 12 , further comprising the step of varying the current wind value according to a time of use.

20. The method of claim 19 , wherein the step of varying the current wind value according to a time of use comprises increasing the wind agility over a period of time.
