Abstract

A method and system is provided for facilitating affiliate link generation using a web browser application. A publisher enables the system by identifying a webpage on an affiliate web site. The system performs an initial assessment of the page to extract webpage information, which is compared to information stored in a database. If the extracted information matches stored information, a record of the webpage is displayed and an affiliate link is dynamically generated for immediate use. If the extracted information does not match stored information, a new record of the webpage is created. If the webpage contains product-specific data, a product-specific record is stored. If the webpage does not contain product-specific data, a non-product record is stored. An affiliate link is then dynamically created. The new record of the product and dynamically created affiliate link is added to the database for immediate use.

Claims (42)

1. A system for data management comprising a link generation server coupled to a database, the link generation server in communication with a user computing device associated with a publisher, the link generation server configured to:

receive a request from the user computing device to generate a custom link unique to the publisher, wherein the custom link is for a webpage associated with a product, and wherein the request identifies the webpage;

analyze the webpage to extract webpage information;

determine whether the extracted webpage information corresponds to at least one record stored in a database;

when the extracted webpage information is determined to correspond to the at least one record in the database, the at least one record including an affiliate link, cause the user computing device to display a custom link as the requested custom link, the custom link being based on the affiliate link; and

when the extracted webpage information is determined to not correspond to the at least one record in the database, automatically, via the link generation server, generate a new custom link for display at the user computing device as the requested custom link, wherein the new custom link allows tracking of web metrics associated with one or more transactions involving the new custom link, wherein the generating includes automatically, via the link generation server, creating a new record corresponding to the generated new custom link and saving the new record in the database.

2. The system of claim 1 , wherein the publisher embeds the custom link in an external application.

3. The system of claim 1 , wherein the custom link includes a full link.

4. The system of claim 1 , wherein the custom link includes a shortened link.

5. The system of claim 1 , wherein the web metrics include one or more of views of the webpage associated with the product, purchases associated with the product, or click-throughs.

6. The system of claim 1 , the link generation server further configured to:

determine one or more of product popularity, inventory needs, demographic or geographic concentrations, or commissions generated through the custom link based on the web metrics.

7. The system of claim 1 , the link generation server further configured to:

return the at least one record to the user computing device.

8. The system of claim 1 , the link generation server further configured to:

determine that the at least one record includes a product picture; and

display the product picture on the display at the user computing device.

9. The system of claim 1 , the link generation server further configured to:

prompt the publisher to select a product picture.

10. The system of claim 1 , the link generation server further configured to:

track the web metrics associated with the one or more transactions involving the custom link.

11. The system of claim 1 , wherein upon analyzing the webpage, the link generation server is further configured to determine that the webpage does not identify the product, and wherein the link generation server is further configured to display an alert, on the user computing device, notifying the publisher that the webpage is a non-product page.

12. A computer-implemented method for data management, the method implemented using a link generation server coupled to a database, the link generation server in communication with a user computing device associated with a publisher, the method comprising:

receiving a request from the user computing device to generate a custom link unique to the publisher, wherein the custom link is for a webpage associated with a product, and wherein the request identifies the webpage;

analyzing the webpage to extract webpage information;

determining whether the extracted webpage information corresponds to at least one record stored in a database;

when the extracted webpage information is determined to correspond to the at least one record in the database, the at least one record including an affiliate link, causing the user computing device to display a custom link as the requested custom link, the custom link being based on the affiliate link; and

when the extracted webpage information is determined to not correspond to the at least one record in the database, automatically, via the link generation server, generating a new custom link for display at the user computing device as the requested custom link, wherein the new custom link allows tracking of web metrics associated with one or more transactions involving the new custom link, wherein the generating includes automatically, via the link generation server, creating a new record corresponding to the generated new custom link and saving the new record in the database.

13. The computer-implemented method of claim 12 , wherein the publisher embeds the custom link in an external application.

14. The computer-implemented method of claim 12 , wherein the custom link includes a full link.

15. The computer-implemented method of claim 12 , wherein the custom link includes a shortened link.

16. The computer-implemented method of claim 12 , wherein the web metrics include one or more of views of the webpage associated with the product, purchases associated with the product, or click-throughs.

17. The computer-implemented method of claim 12 , the method further comprising:

determining one or more of product popularity, inventory needs, demographic or geographic concentrations, or commissions generated through the custom link based on the web metrics.

18. The computer-implemented method of claim 12 , wherein upon analyzing the webpage, the method comprises determining that the webpage does not identify the product, and displaying an alert, on the user computing device, notifying the publisher that the webpage is a non-product page.

19. A non-transitory computer-readable medium storing computer-executable instructions which, when executed by a link generation server coupled to a database, the link generation server in communication with a user computing device associated with a publisher, cause the link generation server to perform operations comprising:

receiving a request from the user computing device to generate a custom link unique to the publisher, wherein the custom link is for a webpage associated with a product, and wherein the request identifies the webpage;

analyzing the webpage to extract webpage information;

determining whether the extracted webpage information corresponds to at least one record stored in a database;

when the extracted webpage information is determined to correspond to the at least one record in the database, the at least one record including an affiliate link, causing the user computing device to display a custom link as the requested custom link, the custom link being based on the affiliate link; and

when the extracted webpage information is determined to not correspond to the at least one record in the database, automatically, via the link generation server, generating a new custom link for display at the user computing device as the requested custom link, wherein the new custom link allows tracking of web metrics associated with one or more transactions involving the new custom link, wherein the generating includes automatically, via the link generation server, creating a new record corresponding to the generated new custom link and saving the new record in the database.

20. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 19 , wherein the custom link includes a shortened link.
