Abstract

A proxy card used at an ATM, or at any vendor store, that has a legacy point of sale unit or at a store with the smart point of sale. In general, it can be used with any vendor and otherwise as any credit or debit card might be used. The point-of sale unit interacts with a multi-source processing system (MSPS) that, instead of servicing a single money source, interacts with more than one of a plurality of monetary sources that may be associated with the proxy card. The money transferred from credit or debit accounts of the user may be either transferred directly or indirectly via a proxy central account associated with the MSPS that a user maintains.

Claims (29)

1 - 3 . (canceled)

4 . An electronic device that supports interaction with a point of sale unit, a management system, and both a first independent monetary account of a buyer and a second independent monetary account of the buyer, the first independent monetary account having a first reference identifier and the second independent monetary account having a second reference identifier, the electronic device comprising:

a communication interface configured to communicate with at least the point of sale unit;

a proxy number stored therein that is associated with the buyer, the first reference identifier, and the second reference identifier,

wherein the electronic device supports a plurality of purchase transactions via the management system according to a configuration that allocates a corresponding plurality of purchase amounts between the first independent monetary account and the second independent monetary account; and

wherein the electronic device supports disassociation of the proxy number and the first reference identifier to detach the first independent monetary account without having to engage in closure of the first independent monetary account.

5 . The electronic device of claim 4 , wherein the corresponding plurality of purchase amounts is apportioned at a predefined ratio between the first independent monetary account and the second independent monetary account.

6 . The electronic device of claim 4 , wherein the corresponding plurality of purchase amounts is apportioned between the first independent monetary account and the second independent monetary account based upon respective interest rates.

7 . The electronic device of claim 6 , wherein at least one of the corresponding plurality of purchase amounts is apportioned fully to the first independent monetary account.

8 . The electronic device of claim 6 , wherein at least one of the corresponding plurality of purchase amounts is apportioned:

partially to the first independent monetary account until a credit limit is reached on the first independent monetary account; and

partially to the second independent monetary account.

9 . The electronic device of claim 4 , where the electronic device is further configured to initiate a payment transfer via the point of sale unit such that a merchant account receives payment from the first independent monetary account and the second independent monetary account.

10 . The electronic device of claim 4 , wherein the electronic device is further configured to determine buying trends of the buyer.

11 . The electronic device of claim 4 , wherein the communication interface is further configured to communicate with the management system.

12 . A wireless electronic device that supports interaction with a point of sale unit, a management system, and both a first independent monetary account of a buyer and a second independent monetary account of the buyer, the first independent monetary account having a first reference identifier and the second independent monetary account having a second reference identifier, the wireless electronic device comprising:

a communication interface configured to wirelessly communicate with at least the point of sale unit;

a proxy number stored therein that is associated with the buyer, the first reference identifier, and the second reference identifier,

wherein the wireless electronic device supports a plurality of purchase transactions via the management system according to a configuration that allocates a corresponding plurality of purchase amounts between the first independent monetary account and the second independent monetary account; and

wherein the wireless electronic device supports disassociation of the proxy number and the first reference identifier to detach the first independent monetary account without having to engage in closure of the first independent monetary account.

13 . The wireless electronic device of claim 12 , wherein the corresponding plurality of purchase amounts is apportioned at a predefined ratio between the first independent monetary account and the second independent monetary account.

14 . The wireless electronic device of claim 12 , wherein the corresponding plurality of purchase amounts is apportioned between the first independent monetary account and the second independent monetary account based upon respective interest rates.

15 . The wireless electronic device of claim 14 , wherein at least one of the corresponding plurality of purchase amounts is apportioned fully to the first independent monetary account.

16 . The wireless electronic device of claim 14 , wherein at least one of the corresponding plurality of purchase amounts is apportioned:

partially to the first independent monetary account until a credit limit is reached on the first independent monetary account; and

partially to the second independent monetary account.

17 . The wireless electronic device of claim 12 , where the wireless electronic device is further configured to initiate a payment transfer via the point of sale unit such that a merchant account receives payment from the first independent monetary account and the second independent monetary account.

18 . The wireless electronic device of claim 12 , wherein the wireless electronic device is further configured to determine buying trends of the buyer.

19 . The wireless electronic device of claim 12 , wherein the communication interface is further configured to communicate with the management system via at least one wireless link.
