Abstract

Reinforcing sleeves for medical device lumens are disclosed. In some embodiments reinforcing sleeves may provide resistance to crushing, kinking, or other deformation of the lumen. Reinforcing sleeves within the scope of this disclosure may be displacable along an outer diameter of a reinforced lumen. Some reinforcing sleeves within the scope of this disclosure comprise metal alloys.

Claims (30)

1 . A method of reinforcing a non-natural flow path between a first portion of a vasculature and a second portion of the vasculature, the method comprising:

obtaining a reinforcing sleeve that is configured to slide over a lumen; and

sliding the reinforcing sleeve along the lumen to a predetermined location on the lumen,

wherein applying a push force to the reinforcing sleeve slides the sleeve along the lumen and applying a pull force to the reinforcing sleeve clamps the reinforcing sleeve to the lumen.

2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the reinforcing sleeve comprises a first inner diameter that is greater than an outer diameter of the lumen.

3 . The method of claim 2 , further comprising securing the reinforcing sleeve at the predetermined location on the lumen by transitioning the first inner diameter of the reinforcing sleeve to a second inner diameter that is less than the outer diameter of the lumen.

4 . The method of claim 3 , further comprising an enlarging component that is at least partially disposed between the reinforcing sleeve and the lumen so that the enlarging component expands an inner diameter of the reinforcing sleeve to the first inner diameter.

5 . The method of claim 4 , further comprising removing the enlarging component between the reinforcing sleeve and the lumen to reduce the inner diameter from the first inner diameter to the second inner diameter.

6 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising providing a second reinforcing sleeve that is configured to slide over the lumen; and

sliding the second reinforcing sleeve along the lumen to a second predetermined location on the lumen that is different from the predetermined location.

7 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising coupling a first end of the lumen to the first portion of the vasculature.

8 . The method of claim 7 , further comprising coupling a second end of the lumen to the second portion of the vasculature.

9 . A non-natural flow path system between a first portion of a vasculature and a second portion of a vasculature, the system comprising:

a lumen, wherein a first end of the lumen is configured to couple to the first portion of the vasculature and a second end of the lumen is configured to couple to the second portion of the vasculature; and

a reinforcing sleeve configured to slide along an outer surface of the lumen to a predetermined location on the lumen,

wherein the reinforcing sleeve comprises a first inner diameter that is greater than an outer diameter of the lumen to enable the reinforcing sleeve to slide along the lumen and a second inner diameter that is less than the outer diameter of the lumen.

10 . The system of claim 9 , wherein the reinforcing sleeve comprises a braid that slides along the outer surface of the lumen when a push force is applied to the reinforcing sleeve and clamps against the outer surface of the outer surface of the lumen when a pull force is applied to the reinforcing sleeve.

11 . The system of claim 9 , further comprising a removable enlarging component that is at least partially disposed between the reinforcing sleeve and the lumen that expands an inner diameter of the lumen to the first inner diameter.

12 . The system of claim 11 , wherein removing the removable enlarging component reduces the inner diameter to the second inner diameter.

13 . The system of claim 11 , wherein the enlarging component has a ring shape that extends a majority of a length of the reinforcing sleeve.

14 . The system of claim 11 , wherein the enlarging component comprises a tab that extends outside of the reinforcing sleeve.

15 . The system of claim 9 , wherein the reinforcing sleeve further comprises a pair of end caps at opposing ends of the reinforcing sleeve.

16 . The system of claim 9 , further comprising a second reinforcing sleeve configured to slide along an outer surface of the lumen to a second predetermined location on the lumen that is different from the predetermined location.

17 . The system of claim 16 , wherein a structure of the reinforcing sleeve is different from a structure of the second reinforcing sleeve.

18 . A non-natural flow path system between a first portion of a vasculature and a second portion of a vasculature, the system comprising:

a lumen, wherein a first end of the lumen is configured to couple to the first portion of the vasculature and a second end of the lumen is configured to couple to the second portion of the vasculature; and

a reinforcing sleeve configured to slide along an outer surface of the lumen to a predetermined location on the lumen,

wherein the reinforcing sleeve comprises a braid that slides along the outer surface of the lumen when a push force is applied to the reinforcing sleeve and clamps against the outer surface of the lumen when a pull force is applied to the reinforcing sleeve.

19 . The system of claim 18 , wherein the reinforcing sleeve further comprises a pair of end caps at opposing ends of the reinforcing sleeve.

20 . The system of claim 18 , further comprising a second reinforcing sleeve configured to slide along an outer surface of the lumen to a second predetermined location on the lumen that is different from the predetermined location.
