Abstract

An apparatus comprising a controller. The controller includes an input/output (I/O) module and a rule module. The I/O module is configured to present a question for a patient when communicatively coupled to a user interface and receive patient information in response to the question via the user interface. The rule module is configured to apply a rule to the patient information and generate a suggested insulin pump setting from application of the rule. Other devices, systems, and methods are disclosed.

Claims (36)

1. A method of providing diabetes therapy, comprising:

prompting a patient to enter patient information including one or more of patient demographic information, patient health information and patient lifestyle information into a user interface of a user-wearable infusion pump system;

applying one or more stored rules to the patient information;

generating one or more pump settings for an initial set up of a user-wearable infusion pump for the patient based on the application of the one or more stored rules to the patient information; and

causing the user-wearable infusion pump to deliver insulin to the patient according to the one or more pump settings.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein generating one or more pump settings includes generating one or more of a basal rate pattern, a correction factor and a carbohydrate ratio.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein prompting the patient to enter patient information includes presenting one or more questions to the patient on the user interface.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein patient demographic information includes one or more of the patient's weight, age and gender.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein patient lifestyle information includes one or more of dietary information and activity level information of the patient.

6. The method of claim 5 , wherein dietary information of the patient includes a carbohydrate ratio for the patient.

7. The method of claim 1 , wherein patient health information includes one or more of a patient health status, patient health-related condition, and patient medication.

8. A user-wearable infusion pump system;

a pump configured to deliver insulin to a patient;

a user interface;

a memory; and

a controller in electrical communication with the pump, the memory and the user interface, wherein the controller is configured to:

prompt the patient to enter patient information including one or more of patient demographic information, patient health information and patient lifestyle information through the user interface;

apply one or more rules stored in the memory to the patient information;

generate one or more pump settings for an initial set up of the pump for the patient based on the application of the one or more stored rules to the patient information; and

cause the pump to deliver insulin to the patient according to the one or more pump settings.

9. The system of claim 8 , wherein generating one or more pump settings includes generating one or more of a basal rate pattern, a correction factor and a carbohydrate ratio.

10. The system of claim 8 , wherein prompting the patient to enter patient information includes presenting one or more questions to the patient on the user interface.

11. The system of claim 8 , wherein patient demographic information includes one or more of the patient's weight, age and gender.

12. The system of claim 8 , wherein patient lifestyle information includes one or more of dietary information and activity level information of the patient.

13. The system of claim 12 , wherein dietary information of the patient includes a carbohydrate ratio for the patient.

14. The system of claim 8 , wherein patient health information includes one or more of a patient health status, patient health-related condition, and patient medication.

15. A method of providing diabetes therapy, comprising:

presenting one or more questions to a patient on a user interface of a user-wearable infusion pump system;

receiving patient information from the patient in response to the one or more questions;

applying one or more stored rules to the patient information;

generating one or more pump settings for an initial set up of a user-wearable infusion pump for the patient based on the application of the one or more stored rules to the patient information; and

causing the user-wearable infusion pump to deliver insulin to the patient according to the one or more pump settings.

16. The method of claim 15 , wherein presenting one or more questions to the patient includes presenting one or more questions regarding one or more of patient demographic information, patient health information and patient lifestyle information.

17. The method of claim 15 , wherein generating one or more initial pump setting includes generating one or more of a basal rate pattern, a correction factor and a carbohydrate ratio.

18. The method of claim 17 , wherein patient demographic information includes one or more of the patient's weight, age and gender.

19. The method of claim 17 , wherein patient lifestyle information includes one or more of dietary information and activity level information of the patient.
