Abstract

Various aspects described herein relate to presenting drug dispensing information. Data related to a plurality of dispensing events initiated by one or more employees, of an electronic drug dispensing system can be received. A set of dispensing events of the plurality of dispensing events can be determined as constituting possible misappropriation of drugs by the one or more employees. An alert related to the set of dispensing events can be provided based on determining that the set of dispensing events constitute possible misappropriation of drugs.

Claims (60)

1. A computer-implemented method for displaying an indication of non-compliant access to a drug dispensing system on a user interface, the method comprising:

receiving, by a drug diversion surveillance system, drug dispensing data from one or more dispensing logs, one or more electronic medical records, and human resources data;

identifying, by the drug diversion surveillance system, a plurality of dispensing events by a plurality of employees based on the one or more dispensing logs;

detecting, by the drug diversion surveillance system, at least one dispensing event based on the drug dispensing data that constitutes possible drug misappropriation by:

detecting, by a data patterning component, at least one commonality in the drug dispensing data;

clustering, by the data patterning component, the drug dispensing data based on the at least one commonality;

analyzing, by the data patterning component, the clustered drug dispensing data to detect one or more patterns, the one or more patterns including a drug wasting pattern;

determining, by the data patterning component, whether the at least one dispensing event of the plurality of dispensing events is inconsistent with the one or more patterns; and

in response to determining that the at least one dispensing event of the plurality of dispensing events is inconsistent with the one or more patterns,

identifying, by the data patterning component, the at least one dispensing event as at least one misappropriation event; and

providing, by a data presenting component, an alert to an interface, wherein the alert includes the at least one misappropriation event.

2. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , further comprising:

applying, by a rule applying component, one or more rules to the drug dispensing data to detect the at least one misappropriation event, the one or more rules including at least one drug wasting rule.

3. The computer-implemented method of claim 2 , the at least one drug wasting rule for detecting waste of a drug over a threshold amount over a period of time by at least one employee.

4. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein the detecting the at least one commonality includes computing at least one statistical inference.

The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein the drug wasting pattern includes at least one of: wasting a plurality of similar drugs over a period of time, wasting of at least one drug for a same patient, wasting of at least one drug for a plurality of patients with one or more similar diagnoses, or wasting of at least one drug for the plurality of patients with one or more similar prescriptions.

6. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , further comprising:

updating the one or more patterns based on at least one change in the drug dispensing data or the human resources data.

The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein the alert identifies an employee dispensing a drug corresponding to the at least one misappropriation event, a type or an amount of the drug, a wasting event, prescription information, or a plurality of related dispensing events by the employee or other employees that may be related to the at least one misappropriation event.

8. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , further comprising:

receiving, by a feedback component, feedback corresponding to whether the at least one misappropriation event is an actual misappropriation.

9. The computer-implemented method of claim 8 , further comprising:

in response to receiving the feedback, activating, by the data patterning component, the one or more patterns detected in the drug dispensing data.

10. The computer-implemented method of claim 8 , further comprising:

in response to receiving the feedback, deactivating, by the data patterning component, the one or more patterns detected in the drug dispensing data.

11. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein the one or more dispensing logs include an employee requesting dispensing of a drug, patient information, the drug being dispensed, an amount of the drug being dispensed, and wasting information.

12. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , further comprising:

determining, by a data analyzing component, a priority level corresponding to the at least one misappropriation event, the priority level corresponding to a level of deviation from the one or more patterns,

wherein the alert provided to the interface further includes the priority level.

13. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein the human resources data includes employment information related to at least one employee of the plurality of employees and at least one security profile related to the at least one employee of the plurality of employees.

14. A system for displaying an indication of non-compliant access to a drug dispensing system on a user interface, the system comprising:

at least one processor; and

at least one storage device storing instructions which, when executed by the at least one processor, cause the at least one processor to perform operations comprising:

receiving, by a drug diversion surveillance system, drug dispensing data from one or more dispensing logs, one or more electronic medical records, and human resources data;

identifying, by the drug diversion surveillance system, a plurality of dispensing events by a plurality of employees based on the one or more dispensing logs;

detecting, by the drug diversion surveillance system, at least one dispensing event based on the drug dispensing data that constitutes possible drug misappropriation by:

detecting, by a data patterning component, at least one commonality in the drug dispensing data;

clustering, by the data patterning component, the drug dispensing data based on the at least one commonality;

analyzing, by the data patterning component, the clustered drug dispensing data to detect one or more patterns, the one or more patterns including a drug wasting pattern;

determining, by the data patterning component, whether the at least one dispensing event of the plurality of dispensing events is inconsistent with the one or more patterns; and

in response to determining that the at least one dispensing event of the plurality of dispensing events is inconsistent with the one or more patterns, identifying, by the data patterning component, the at least one dispensing event as at least one misappropriation event; and

providing, by a data presenting component, an alert to an interface, wherein the alert includes the at least one misappropriation event.

15. The system of claim 14 , the operations further comprising:

applying, by a rule applying component, one or more rules to the drug dispensing data to detect the at least one misappropriation event, the one or more rules including at least one drug wasting rule.

16. The system of claim 15 , the at least one drug wasting rule for detecting waste of a drug over a threshold amount over a period of time by at least one employee.

17. The system of claim 14 , wherein the detecting the at least one commonality includes computing at least one statistical inference.

18. A non-transitory computer readable medium storing instructions which, when executed by at least one processor, cause the at least one processor to perform operations for displaying an indication of non-compliant access to a drug dispensing system on a user interface, the operations comprising:

receiving, by a drug diversion surveillance system, drug dispensing data from one or more dispensing logs, one or more electronic medical records, and human resources data;

identifying, by the drug diversion surveillance system, a plurality of dispensing events by a plurality of employees based on the one or more dispensing logs;

detecting, by the drug diversion surveillance system, at least one dispensing event based on the drug dispensing data that constitutes possible drug misappropriation by:

detecting, by a data patterning component, at least one commonality in the drug dispensing data;

clustering, by the data patterning component, the drug dispensing data based on the at least one commonality;

analyzing, by the data patterning component, the clustered drug dispensing data to detect one or more patterns, the one or more patterns including a drug wasting pattern;

determining, by the data patterning component, whether the at least one dispensing event of the plurality of dispensing events is inconsistent with the one or more patterns; and

in response to determining that the at least one dispensing event of the plurality of dispensing events is inconsistent with the one or more patterns,

identifying, by the data patterning component, the at least one dispensing event as at least one misappropriation event; and

providing, by a data presenting component, an alert to an interface, wherein the alert includes the at least one misappropriation event.

The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 18 , wherein the drug wasting pattern includes at least one of: wasting a plurality of similar drugs over a period of time, wasting of at least one drug for a same patient, wasting of at least one drug for a plurality of patients with one or more similar diagnoses, or wasting of at least one drug for the plurality of patients with one or more similar prescriptions.

20. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 18 , the operations further comprising:

updating the one or more patterns based on at least one change in the drug dispensing data or the human resources data.
