Abstract

A flexible implant system includes a flexible implant, an implant housing, and an implant set screw. The flexible implant is configured to loop around a portion of a bony element. The implant housing includes a housing body defining a rod passage configured to receive an rod. The housing body also defines an implant passage that receives a portion of the flexible implant. The implant set screw engages the flexible implant within the implant passage to fix the flexible implant to the implant housing.

Claims (35)

1. An implant, comprising:

a first securement member;

a second securement member; and

a housing of unitary construction configured to receive the first securement member and the second securement member, the first securement member configured to advance with respect to the housing along a first axis to secure a flexible member within the housing, and the second securement member configured to advance with respect to the housing along a second axis to secure a rod within the housing, the first axis and the second axis offset relative to each other and angled to define an intersection point outside of the housing.

2. The implant of claim 1 , wherein the second securement member is threaded.

3. The implant of claim 1 , wherein the second securement member is configured to advance within an opening in the housing.

4. The implant of claim 3 , wherein the housing includes a cutout and is configured to compress along the cutout when the second securement member is advanced within the opening.

5. The implant of claim 1 , wherein the second axis is laterally offset from a longitudinal axis of the rod when the rod is secured within the housing.

6. The implant of claim 1 , wherein the second axis is angled relative to the first axis at a 45-degree angle.

The implant of claim 1 , wherein the flexible member is receivable within a passageway of the housing, the first securement member being configured to secure the flexible member within the housing by compressing against the flexible member while the flexible member is received within the passageway.

8. An implant system, comprising:

an elongate flexible member;

a spinal rod;

a securement member;

and

a housing of unitary construction having a first passage for receiving the flexible member, a second passage for receiving the spinal rod, an axis along which the securement member is configured to advance relative to the housing to secure at least one of the flexible member within the first passage and the spinal rod within the second passage, wherein the first passage and the second passage are substantially perpendicular from one another.

9. The system of claim 8 , the housing further comprising a third passage within which the securement member is configured to advance.

10. The system of claim 9 , wherein the third passage is threaded.

11. The system of claim 8 , wherein the third passage is transverse to the first and second passages.

12. The system of claim 8 , wherein the securement members is a set screws.

13. The system of claim 8 , wherein the second passage is configured to extend circumferentially around the spinal rod received therein except at an open region oriented along the direction lateral to the first passage.

14. A spinal implant, comprising:

an elongate flexible member;

a spinal rod;

a housing of unitary construction having a rod passage for receiving the spinal rod therein, the housing having a first passage extending therethrough along a first axis, the first passage configured to receive the flexible member therein, and the housing having a second passage extending along a second axis transverse to the first axis and intersecting with the first axis at an intersection location within the unitary housing, the second passage configured to receive the flexible member therein and the second passage communicating with the first passage at the intersection location;

a first securement member for securing the elongate flexible member within the first passage or the second passage of the housing; and

a second securement member for securing the spinal rod within the rod passage of the housing.

15. The implant of claim 14 , wherein the first axis and the second axis are orthogonal to one another at the intersection location.

16. The implant of claim 14 , wherein the housing further comprises an opening for receiving the second securement member therein.

17. The implant of claim 14 , wherein the second passage and the rod passage extend in parallel orientations.

18. The implant of claim 14 , wherein the second securement member is configured to advance along a third axis to secure the spinal rod within the housing, wherein the first axis of the first passage intersects the third axis at a point outside of the unitary housing.

19. The implant of claim 14 , wherein the first securement member is configured to advance along a fourth axis to secure the elongate flexible member within the housing, the fourth axis passing through the intersection location.

20. A method of securing the spinal implant of claim 14 , comprising:

passing the elongate flexible member through either the first passage or the second passage of the housing of the spinal implant; and

advancing the first securement member to secure the elongate flexible member within the housing.
