Abstract

Systems and methods for a soft tissue treatment of a patient are provided herein. The device for a soft tissue treatment may include an applicator having at least one electrode, a fastening mechanism to fix the applicator to a body part of the patient, and a control unit having a microprocessor to control the at least one electrode. The at least one electrode may provide radiofrequency energy and pulsed electric current. The radiofrequency energy may cause a heating of a soft tissue. The electric current may cause contraction of a muscle within the body part. The body part may be a face.

Claims (70)

1. A device for a soft tissue treatment of a patient, comprising:

an applicator comprising an electrode,

wherein the electrode is configured to provide both a radiofrequency energy and a pulsed electric current to a face of the patient;

a fastening mechanism configured to fix the applicator to the face; and

a control unit comprising a microprocessor configured to control the radiofrequency energy and the pulsed electric current,

wherein the radiofrequency energy has a frequency in a range of 0.1 MHz to 25 GHz and causes a heating of soft tissue of the face,

wherein the pulsed electric current is provided within a series of envelopes, wherein the envelopes repeat with a frequency in a range of 0.1 Hz to 140 Hz, and

wherein the pulsed electric current causes contraction of a muscle within the face.

2. The device of claim 1 , wherein the radiofrequency energy is provided in pulses with a pulse duration in a range of 50 μs to 100 s.

3. The device of claim 2 , wherein the frequency of the radiofrequency energy is in a range of 500 kHz to 80 MHz.

4. The device of claim 3 , wherein the pulsed electric current has a pulse frequency in a range of 0.1 Hz to 200 Hz.

5. The device of claim 4 , wherein the fastening mechanism comprises a belt configured to attach the applicator in contact with the face of the patient.

6. The device of claim 5 , further comprising a temperature control system, wherein the temperature control system is configured to control the radiofrequency energy applied such that a temperature of an epidermis of the face of the patient is maintained in a range of 37° C. to 50° C.

7. The device of claim 6 , wherein the electrode is configured to apply the radiofrequency energy and the pulsed electric current to the soft tissue of the face sequentially.

8. The device of claim 7 , wherein the temperature control system comprises at least one sensor configured to monitor one of a temperature of the soft tissue, a temperature of any part of the applicator, an impedance of the face, or a conductivity of the face.

9. The device of claim 8 , wherein the control unit is configured to automatically change at least one of a frequency, an output power, or a pulse duration of at least one of the radiofrequency energy or the pulsed electric current based on information from the at least one sensor.

10. A method of a soft tissue treatment of a patient comprising:

placing an applicator to a surface of a face of the patient, the applicator comprising an electrode;

fixing the applicator in contact with the face by a fastening mechanism;

applying a radiofrequency energy with a frequency in a range of 0.1 MHz to 25 GHz provided by the electrode to a treatment area of the face and causing a heating of soft tissue within the treatment area;

applying an electrotherapy to the treatment area by a pulsed electric current provided by the electrode and causing contraction of a muscle within the treatment area, wherein the pulsed electric current is provided within a series of envelopes, and wherein the envelopes repeat with a frequency in a range of 0.1 Hz to 140 Hz; and

controlling the heating of the soft tissue by the radiofrequency energy and parameters of the envelope of the pulsed electric current provided by the electrode.

11. The method of claim 10 , wherein the treatment area is in a range of 1 cm 2 to 500 cm 2 .

12. The method of claim 10 , further comprising applying the electrotherapy after the radiofrequency energy.

13. The method of claim 10 , further comprising providing the radiofrequency energy in pulses with an energy flux density on a surface of the electrode in a range of 0.01 mW·mm −2 to 10 W·mm −2 .

14. The method of claim 10 , wherein the pulsed electric current comprises series of rectangular shaped pulses.

15. The method of claim 10 , wherein the fastening mechanism comprises a belt.

16. The method of claim 15 , further comprising applying a gel to the treatment area to improve a transfer of the radiofrequency energy or the pulsed electric current.

17. A device for a treatment of a face of a patient comprising:

an applicator comprising an array of electrodes;

a fastening mechanism configured to fix the applicator to the face of the patient;

a control unit comprising a microprocessor configured to control the array of electrodes;

a radiofrequency electrode from the array of electrodes configured to provide a radiofrequency energy with a frequency in a range of 100 kHz to 100 MHz to cause a heating of soft tissue of a treatment area of the face,

wherein the radiofrequency energy is provided in pulses with a pulse duration in a range of 50 μs to 100 s; and

an electrotherapy electrode from the array of electrodes configured to provide a pulsed electric current with a pulse frequency in a range of 0.1 Hz to 200 Hz to cause contraction of a muscle within the treatment area of the face,

wherein the control unit is configured to provide one or more predefined treatment protocols for selection by an operator via a user interface,

wherein the predefined treatment protocol comprises an envelope of the pulsed electric current,

wherein the pulsed electric current is modulated in an amplitude or a frequency within the envelope, and

wherein a shape of the envelope is formed by a modulation of the amplitude of consecutive pulses of the pulsed electric current contained in the envelope, and

wherein the control unit is configured to switch on and off at least one of the radiofrequency electrode or the electrotherapy electrode from the array of electrodes based on a treatment pattern of a selected treatment protocol from the one or more predefined treatment protocols.

18. The device of claim 17 , wherein successive envelopes repeat in a frequency in a range of 0.1 to 140 Hz.

19. A method of a treatment of a body part of a patient comprising:

placing an applicator on a surface of the body part, the applicator comprising a plurality of electrodes;

fixing the applicator in contact with the body part by a fastening mechanism;

selecting one or more predefined treatment protocols by an operator of the device via a user interface, wherein each treatment protocol comprises a treatment pattern including providing a radiofrequency energy and a pulsed electric current;

applying, in accordance with one of the selected treatment protocols, the radiofrequency energy to soft tissue of the body part by a radiofrequency electrode from the plurality of electrodes to cause a heating of the soft tissue,

wherein the radiofrequency energy is modulated in an amplitude or a frequency to establish a radiofrequency envelope;

applying, in accordance with one of the selected treatment protocols, the pulsed electric current to the soft tissue of the body part by an electrotherapy electrode from the plurality of electrodes to cause contraction of a muscle within the body part,

wherein the pulsed electric current is provided within a series of envelopes modulated in an amplitude or a frequency; and

switching between on and off states of the radiofrequency electrode and the electrotherapy electrode according to the treatment pattern of the selected treatment protocol.

20. The method of claim 19 , wherein the pulsed electric current has a pulse frequency in a range of 0 Hz to 12 kHz.

21. The method of claim 20 , wherein the soft tissue comprises one of skin, fat, connective tissue, nervous tissue, or muscle.

22. The method of claim 21 , wherein the body part is at least one of a face or a neck.

23. A device for a treatment of a face of a patient, comprising:

an applicator comprising an array of electrodes;

a fastening mechanism configured to fix the applicator to the face of the patient;

a control unit comprising a microprocessor configured to control the array of electrodes in groups;

a radiofrequency electrode from the array of electrodes configured to provide a radiofrequency energy with a frequency in a range of 100 kHz to 100 MHz and an energy flux density on a surface of the radiofrequency electrode in a range of 0.01 mW·mm −2 to 500 mW·mm −2 to cause a heating of soft tissue of a treatment area of the face; and

an electrotherapy electrode from the array of electrodes configured to provide a pulsed electric current with a pulse frequency in a range of 0.1 Hz to 200 Hz to cause contraction of a muscle within the treatment area of the face,

wherein the control unit is configured to provide one or more predefined treatment protocols for selection by an operator via a user interface, and

wherein the control unit is configured to switch on and off at least one of the radiofrequency electrode or the electrotherapy electrode from the array of electrodes based on a treatment pattern of a selected treatment protocol from the one or more predefined treatment protocols.

24. A device for a treatment of a face of a patient, comprising:

an applicator comprising an array of electrodes;

a fastening mechanism configured to fix the applicator to the face of the patient;

a control unit comprising a microprocessor configured to control the array of electrodes in groups;

a radiofrequency electrode from the array of electrodes configured to provide a radiofrequency energy with a frequency in a range of 100 kHz to 100 MHz to cause a heating of soft tissue of a treatment area of the face; and

an electrotherapy electrode from the array of electrodes configured to provide a pulsed electric current with a pulse frequency in a range of 0.1 Hz to 200 Hz to cause contraction of a muscle within the treatment area of the face,

wherein the control unit is configured to provide one or more predefined treatment protocols for selection by an operator via a user interface,

wherein the control unit is configured to switch on and off the at least one radiofrequency electrode or the electrotherapy electrode from the array of electrodes based on a treatment pattern of a selected treatment protocol from the one or more predefined treatment protocols, and

wherein the one or more predefined treatment protocols are configured to provide the pulsed electric current after the heating by the radiofrequency energy.
