Abstract

A display assembly system which detects abnormal operating conditions, such as gas recirculation or airway occlusion, is provided. An electronic display is located within a housing. Sensors measure characteristics of ambient air ingested by a thermal management subsystem. Weather conditions are gathered for a location, and measurements are received from the sensors regarding characteristics of the ingested ambient air. An alert is generated if the measurements change at a rate different from a rate of change of the weather conditions by at least a predetermined amount.

gather weather conditions for a location;

receive measurements from the one or more sensors regarding the characteristics of the ingested ambient air; and

generate an alert if the measurements change at a rate different from a rate of change of the weather conditions by at least a predetermined amount.

2. The display assembly system of claim 1 wherein:

said thermal management subsystem comprises:

an intake at said housing;

an exhaust at said housing;

an airflow pathway extending from said intake, through at least a portion of said housing, to said exhaust, wherein said one or more sensors are located along, or in fluid communication with, said airflow pathway; and

one or more fans configured to ingest ambient air from an ambient environment through said intake, move the ingested ambient air through said airflow pathway, and exhaust said ingested ambient air through said exhaust to rejoin the ambient environment when operated.

3. The display assembly system of claim 2 wherein:

said thermal management subsystem comprises said one or more sensors.

4. The display assembly system of claim 1 wherein:

said weather conditions are gathered for a first time period;

said measurements are received for a second time period; and

said first time period at least partially overlaps with said second time period.

5. The display assembly system of claim 1 wherein:

said weather conditions are gathered for a first time period;

said measurements are received for a second time period; and

said first time period does not overlap with said second time period.

6. The display assembly system of claim 1 wherein:

said weather conditions comprise historical weather information gathered for a historical time period; and

said measurements are received for a current time period.

7. The display assembly system of claim 1 further comprising:

a location detection device configured to determine an actual location of said housing.

8. The display assembly system of claim 6 wherein:

the location is geographically distant from the actual location;

the weather conditions are determined by way of a weather station at the location; and

the weather conditions are transmitted over one or more networks to said one or more processors.

9. The display assembly system of claim 1 further comprising:

a network interface device, wherein said one or more sensors are located within the housing, and wherein at least some of said one or more electronic storage devices and said one or more processors are located outside of, and remote from, the housing and are in electronic communication with said one or more sensors by way of one or more networks.

10. The display assembly system of claim 1 wherein:

said one or more electronic storage devices and said one or more processors are located within said housing.

11. The display assembly system of claim 1 wherein:

said electronic display comprises a liquid crystal layer and a backlight configured to provide direct backlighting to said liquid crystal layer.

12. The display assembly system of claim 1 wherein:

the one or more sensors are configured to measure at least a temperature of the ingested ambient air; and

the weather conditions comprise air temperature for the ambient air of the ambient environment.

13. The display assembly system of claim 1 wherein:

the predetermined amount is time dependent such that the predetermined amount is relatively larger during times corresponding with sunrise and sunset, and the predetermined amount is relatively smaller during other times.

14. The display assembly system of claim 1 wherein:

said one or more electronic storage device comprises additional executable software instructions, which when executed, configure said one or more processors to decrease power supplied to the electronic display following a determination that the rate the measurements have changed is different from the rate of change of the weather conditions by at least the predetermined amount.

15. The display assembly system of claim 1 wherein:

said one or more electronic storage devices comprise additional executable software instructions, which when executed, configure said one or more processors to increase cooling operations of said thermal management subsystem following a determination that the rate the measurements have changed is different from the rate of change of the weather conditions by at least the predetermined amount.

16. The display assembly of claim 1 wherein:

said one or more electronic storage device comprises additional executable software instructions, which when executed, configure said one or more processors to automatically generate an electronic service request and transmit said electronic service request to a remote device following a determination that the rate the measurements have changed is different from the rate of change of the weather conditions by at least the predetermined amount.

17. A method for detecting abnormal operating conditions for a display assembly system, said method comprising the steps of:

displaying one or more images at an electronic display within a housing;

gathering weather conditions data for a location over time;

determining that the weather conditions changed at a first rate over the time period;

ingesting ambient air into the housing;

measuring characteristics of the ingested ambient air over a same or different time period;

determining that the characteristics of the ingested ambient air changed at a second rate over the same or different time period which is different from the first rate by at least a predetermined amount;

generating an alert; and

transmitting said alert to at least one electronic device located remote from said electronic display.

18. The method of claim 17 further comprising the steps of:

adjusting operations by at least one of: decreasing an illumination level of said electronic display, and increasing a speed of one of more fans within said housing.

19. The method of claim 17 wherein:

said characteristics comprise temperatures of the ingested ambient air; and

said weather conditions comprise temperatures of the ambient air at the location or one or more local weather stations.

20. A method for detecting abnormal operating conditions in a display assembly, said method comprising the steps of:

displaying one or more images at an electronic display within a housing;

determining, by way of one or more location detection devices, a location of said display assembly;

activating one or more fans to ingest ambient air into an open loop pathway extending through at least a portion of the housing;

gathering, by way of a network interface device for the display assembly, ambient air temperatures determined by a weather station proximate said location over a historical time period;

measuring, by way of one or more sensors, temperatures of the ingested ambient air in the open loop pathway over a current time period;

determining that a rate of change of the temperatures of the ingested ambient air as reported by said one or more sensors are not within a margin of error of an anticipated rate of change of the gathered ambient air temperatures based on said gathered weather conditions over the historical time period;

generating an alert comprising a request for service of the display assembly;

transmitting, by way of the network interface device, said alert to at least one remote electronic device, wherein said alert indicates existence of the abnormal operating conditions and requests servicing of the display assembly; and

adjusting operations by at least one of: decreasing an illumination level for said electronic display, and increasing a speed level for said one of more fans.
