Abstract

A dumping cart is disclosed. The cart allows for complete dumping while maintaining four wheels on the ground and can rotate the rear set of wheels to allow the bed of the cart to be completely turned over for emptying. Also disclosed is a method of attaching an article retaining bed to a cart.

Claims (42)

1 . A dumping cart for use on the ground, comprising:

a chassis;

an article retaining bed pivotably coupled to the chassis along an articulation axis, the retaining bed comprising a retaining bed floor;

a front wheel having a front wheel rotation axis and operably coupled to the chassis;

a set of rear wheels having a rear wheel rotation axis and operably coupled to the article retaining bed;

wherein the articulation axis is shiftable between:

a carry orientation wherein the articulation axis is intermediate the front wheel rotation axis and the rear wheel rotation axis and intermediate the bed floor and the rear wheel rotation axis and both the front wheel and set of rear wheels contact the ground; and

an over-dump orientation wherein the rear wheel rotation axis is intermediate the front wheel rotation axis and the articulation axis and the articulation axis is intermediate the rear wheel rotation axis and the ground.

2 . The dumping cart of claim 1 wherein the front wheel contacts the ground and the rear wheels do not contact the ground when the articulation axis is in the over-dump orientation.

3 . The dumping cart of claim 1 wherein the articulation axis is further shiftable to a full-dump configuration wherein the rear wheel rotation axis is intermediate the front wheel rotation axis and the articulation axis and the articulation axis is intermediate the rear wheel rotation axis and the retaining bed floor.

4 . The dumping cart of claim 1 , wherein the articulation axis is further shiftable to a dump orientation wherein the rear wheel rotation axis is intermediate the front wheel rotation axis and the articulation axis.

5 . The dumping cart of claim 3 , wherein the retaining bed floor is parallel to the ground when the articulation axis is in the full-dump configuration.

6 . The dumping cart of claim 3 , wherein the articulation axis is intermediate the retaining bed floor and the set of rear wheels when the articulation axis is in the full-dump configuration.

7 . The dumping cart of claim 3 , wherein the articulation axis is intermediate the front wheel rotation axis and the set of rear wheels when the articulation axis is in the full-dump configuration.

8 . The dumping cart of claim 4 , wherein the set of rear wheels is intermediate the front wheel rotation axis and the articulation axis when the articulation axis is in the dump orientation.

9 . The dumping cart of claim 8 , wherein the set of rear wheels is intermediate the front wheel rotation axis and the bed floor when the articulation axis is in the dump orientation.

10 . A dumping cart for use on the ground, comprising:

a chassis;

an article retaining bed pivotably coupled to the chassis along an articulation axis, the retaining bed comprising a bed floor;

a front wheel having a front wheel rotation axis and operably coupled to the chassis;

a set of rear wheels having a rear wheel rotation axis and operably coupled to the article retaining bed;

wherein the articulation axis is shiftable between:

a carry orientation wherein the articulation axis is intermediate the front wheel rotation axis and the rear wheel rotation axis and intermediate the bed floor and the rear wheel rotation axis and both the front wheel and set of rear wheels contact the ground; and

a full-dump orientation wherein the set of rear wheels do not contact the ground and the rear wheel rotation axis is intermediate the front wheel rotation axis and the articulation axis; the articulation axis is intermediate the rear wheel rotation axis and the bed floor; and the front wheel maintains contact with the ground.

11 . The dumping cart of claim 10 , wherein the set of rear wheels is intermediate the front wheel rotation axis and the articulation axis when the articulation axis is in the full-dump orientation.

12 . The dumping cart of claim 11 , wherein the set of rear wheels is intermediate the front wheel rotation axis and the bed floor when the articulation axis is in the full-dump orientation.

13 . The dumping cart of claim 10 , wherein the articulation axis is further shiftable to the full-dump orientation wherein the article retaining bed is comprised of a front wall, a rear wall, a right side wall, and a left side wall and wherein the front wall, rear wall, right side wall, and left side wall all contact the ground.

14 . The dumping cart of claim 13 , when the articulation axis is in the full-dump orientation the set of rear wheels is intermediate the front wheel and the articulation axis.

15 . The dumping cart of claim 14 , wherein the set of rear wheels is intermediate the front wheel rotation axis and the articulation axis when the articulation axis is in the full-dump orientation.

16 . The dumping cart of claim 15 , wherein the set of rear wheels is intermediate the front wheel rotation axis and the bed floor when the articulation axis is in the full-dump orientation.

17 . A dumping cart for use on the ground, comprising:

a chassis;

an article retaining bed pivotably coupled to the chassis along an articulation axis, the retaining bed comprising a bed floor;

a front wheel having a front wheel rotation axis and operably coupled to the chassis;

a set of rear wheels having a rear wheel rotation axis and operably coupled to the article retaining bed;

wherein the articulation axis is shiftable between:

a dump orientation wherein the rear wheel rotation axis is intermediate the front wheel rotation axis and the articulation axis;

an over-dump orientation wherein the rear wheel rotation axis is intermediate the front wheel rotation axis and the articulation axis and the articulation axis is intermediate the rear wheel rotation axis and the ground; and

a full-dump configuration wherein the rear wheel rotation axis is intermediate the front wheel rotation axis and the articulation axis and the articulation axis is intermediate the rear wheel rotation axis and the bed floor.

18 . The dumping cart of claim 17 , wherein the bed floor is parallel to the ground when the articulation axis is in the full-dump configuration.

19 . The dumping cart of claim 17 , wherein the set of rear wheels is intermediate the front wheel rotation axis and the articulation axis when the articulation axis is in the dump orientation.

20 . The dumping cart of claim 17 , wherein the articulation axis is further shiftable to a carry orientation wherein the articulation axis is intermediate the front wheel rotation axis and the rear wheel rotation axis and intermediate the bed floor and the rear wheel rotation axis and both the front wheel and set of rear wheels contact the ground.
