Abstract

A solid pellet fueled apparatus having a duel auger system and multi/high speed auger motor is disclosed. The duel auger may include first and second auger blades mounted on a single auger shaft having blade pitches configured to convey solid fuel in opposite directions towards a central burn pot. Each auger blade may service a separate solid fuel compartment provided in a single hopper. The auger motor may have a high-speed setting that may be selected for solid fuel clean out.

Claims (45)

1. A cooking grill, comprising:

a solid fuel hopper;

a burn pot;

a removable burn pot base;

a first auger blade disposed between the solid fuel hopper and the burn pot; and

an auger motor operatively connected to the first auger blade,

wherein the auger motor controller is configured to selectively rotate the first auger blade continuously for a solid fuel clean out operation of the cooking grill for a duration longer than required for a burn operation of the cooking grill.

2. The cooking grill of claim 1 wherein the auger motor is configured to rotate the first auger blade at a first speed for the burn operation of the cooking grill and at a second higher speed for a solid fuel clean out operation of the cooking grill.

3. The cooking grill of claim 1 wherein the second higher speed is any speed greater than the first speed.

4. The cooking grill of claim 1 further comprising a second auger blade disposed between the solid fuel hopper and the burn pot.

5. The cooking grill of claim 4 further comprising:

a first compartment formed within the solid fuel hopper; and

a second compartment formed within the solid fuel hopper,

wherein the first auger blade services the first compartment and the second auger blade services the second compartment.

6. The cooking grill of claim 1 wherein the second higher speed is in the range of 1.5 to 4 times greater than the first speed.

7. A method of operation of a cooking grill to provide a burn operation and a solid fuel clean-out operation, comprising the steps of:

providing a solid fuel hopper having solid fuel in at least a first compartment;

providing a first auger blade dedicated to convey the solid fuel from the first compartment;

rotating the first auger blade continuously for a solid fuel clean out operation of the cooking grill for a duration longer than required for a burn operation of the cooking grill.

8. The cooking grill of claim 7 further comprising the steps of:

rotating the first auger blade at a first speed to convey solid fuel from the first compartment for a solid fuel burn operation; and

rotating the first auger blade at a second higher speed to convey solid fuel from the first compartment for a solid fuel clean-out operation.

9. The cooking grill of claim 7 wherein the second higher speed is any speed greater than the first speed.

10. The cooking grill of claim 7 wherein the second higher speed is in the range of 1.5 to 4 times greater than the first speed.

11. The cooking grill of claim 7 further comprising:

a first compartment formed within the solid fuel hopper;

a second compartment formed within the solid fuel hopper;

a first auger blade servicing the first compartment; and

a second auger blade servicing the second compartment.

12. A pellet grill, comprising:

a burn pot having an upper opening;

a first solid fuel compartment having a first lower opening communicating directly or through one or more intervening passages with the burn pot upper opening;

a first auger blade disposed between the first solid fuel compartment and the burn pot; and

an auger motor configured to selectively rotate the first auger blade continuously for a solid fuel clean out operation of the pellet grill for a duration longer than required for a burn operation of the pellet grill or selectively rotate the first auger blade at a first speed for the burn operation of the pellet grill and at a second higher speed for a solid fuel clean out operation of the pellet grill.

13. The pellet grill of claim 12 further comprising a second solid fuel compartment having a second lower opening communicating directly or through one or more intervening passages with the burn pot upper opening,

wherein the first solid fuel compartment and the second solid fuel compartment are provided in a single solid fuel hopper.

14. The pellet grill of claim 13 wherein the single solid fuel hopper is disposed along a front portion of the pellet grill.

15. The pellet grill of claim 13 further comprising:

a first auger blade; and

a second auger blade,

wherein the first compartment is disposed generally above the first auger blade and the second compartment is disposed generally above the second auger blade.

16. The pellet grill of claim 15 wherein the first auger blade is configured to convey a first supply of solid fuel from the first compartment in a first direction and wherein the second auger blade is configured to convey a second supply of solid fuel from the second compartment in a second direction.

17. The pellet grill of claim 16 wherein first auger blade and the second auger blade have a colinear axis of rotation.

18. The pellet grill of claim 16 wherein the first direction and the second direction are opposite directions taken relative to a reference line.

19. The cooking grill of claim 1 wherein the first auger blade extends along a left side portion of a front of the cooking grill and the second auger blade extends along a right side portion of a front of the cooking grill.
