Abstract

Various embodiments of the present disclosure are directed to a group-based communication apparatus that is configured to enable end-users (e.g., non-admin users) to initiate, by way of client devices, generation of a shareable resource associated with a group-based communication resource identifier to efficiently authorize communication between client devices associated with different organization identifiers in group-based communication interfaces associated with a shared group-based communication resource identifier.

Claims (63)

1. A computer-implemented method comprising:

receiving, by one or more servers of a group-based communication platform and from a first client associated with a first organization and a channel, a request to share the channel with a second client associated with a second organization, wherein the channel is associated with a channel identifier;

responsive at least in part to the request to share the channel, causing presentation, by the one or more servers of a group-based communication platform, of one or more first user interfaces on a first display of the second client, wherein the one or more first user interfaces include information associated with the channel and an invitation for the second client to be associated with the channel;

receiving, by the one or more servers of a group-based communication platform and from the second client, an indication of acceptance of the invitation to be associated with the channel;

causing presentation, by the one or more servers of a group-based communication platform, of an authorization interface on a second display of an administrator client, wherein the authorization interface includes a request for approval of the request to share the channel;

receiving, by the one or more servers of a group-based communication platform and from the administrator client, an indication of approval of the request to share the channel; and

storing, by the one or more servers of a group-based communication platform, a sharing approval indication in association with the channel identifier, wherein the sharing approval indication indicates that the channel is shared between the first organization and the second organization.

2. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein the request to share the channel with the second client comprises:

a sending user identifier associated with the first client;

a first organization identifier associated with the first organization;

a second organization identifier associated with the second organization; and

the channel identifier.

3. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein the one or more first user interfaces include one or more group-based communication workspaces associated with the second client.

4. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein the indication of acceptance comprises at least one of a selection of a group-based communication workspace associated with the second client to associate with the channel, a group-defined title associated with the second client, or an indication of access by the second client of a uniform resource locator included in the invitation.

5. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , further comprising:

causing presentation, by the one or more servers of the group-based communication platform and on the second display of the administrator client, a settings interface associated with the channel, wherein the settings interface includes a control selectable to configure the channel to permit requests to share the channel; and

receiving, by the one or more servers of the group-based communication platform and via the settings interface, an indication of a selection of the control,

wherein receiving the request to share the channel is based at least in part on selection of the control.

6. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , further comprising:

causing presentation, by the one or more servers of the group-based communication platform and on the second display of the administrator client, a settings interface associated with the channel, wherein the settings interface includes a control selectable to configure the channel to require that an administrator approve requests to share the channel; and

receiving, by the one or more servers of the group-based communication platform and via the settings interface, an indication of selection of the control,

wherein causing presentation of the authorization interface is based at least in part on the selection of the control.

7. The computer-implemented method as claim 1 recites, wherein the sharing approval indication comprises an approval timestamp associated with the indication of approval of the request to share the channel.

8. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , further comprising:

based at least in part on receiving the indication of approval of the request, causing presentation, by the one or more servers of the group-based communication platform, of data associated with the channel to a group-based communication interface associated with the second client.

9. One or more non-transitory computer-readable media storing instructions that, when executed by one or more processors, cause one or more processors to perform acts comprising:

receiving, by one or more servers of a group-based communication platform and from a first client associated with a first organization and a channel, a request to share the channel with a second client associated with a second organization, wherein the channel is associated with a channel identifier;

responsive at least in part to the request to share the channel, causing presentation, by the one or more servers of a group-based communication platform, of one or more first user interfaces on a first display of the second client, wherein the one or more first user interfaces include information associated with the channel and an invitation for the second client to be associated with the channel;

receiving, by the one or more servers of a group-based communication platform and from the second client, an indication of acceptance of the invitation to be associated with the channel;

causing presentation, by the one or more servers of a group-based communication platform, of an authorization interface on a second display of an administrator client, wherein the authorization interface includes a request for approval of the request to share the channel;

receiving, by the one or more servers of a group-based communication platform and from the administrator client, an indication of approval of the request to share the channel; and

storing, by the one or more servers of a group-based communication platform, a sharing approval indication in association with the channel identifier, wherein the sharing approval indication indicates that the channel is shared between the first organization and the second organization.

10. The one or more non-transitory computer-readable media of claim 9 , wherein the request to share the channel with the second client comprises:

a sending user identifier associated with the first client;

a first organization identifier associated with the first organization;

a second organization identifier associated with the second organization; and

the channel identifier.

11. The one or more non-transitory computer-readable media of claim 9 , wherein the one or more first user interfaces include one or more group-based communication workspaces associated with the second client.

12. The one or more non-transitory computer-readable media of claim 11 , wherein the indication of acceptance comprises a selection of a group-based communication workspace of the one or more group-based communication workspaces to associate with the channel.

13. The one or more non-transitory computer-readable media of claim 9 , the acts further comprising:

causing presentation, by the one or more servers of the group-based communication platform and on the second display of the administrator client, a settings interface associated with the channel, wherein the settings interface includes at least a one of a first control selectable to configure the channel to permit requests to share the channel or a second control selectable to configure the channel to require that an administrator approve requests to share the channel.

14. The one or more non-transitory computer-readable media of claim 9 , the acts further comprising:

based at least in part on receiving the indication of approval of the request, causing presentation, by the one or more servers of the group-based communication platform, of data associated with the channel to a group-based communication interface associated with the second client.

15. A system comprising:

one or more processors; and

one or more non-transitory computer-readable media storing instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the one or more processors to perform acts comprising:

receiving, by one or more servers of a group-based communication platform and from a first client associated with a first organization and a channel, a request to share the channel with a second client associated with a second organization, wherein the channel is associated with a channel identifier;

responsive at least in part to the request to share the channel, causing presentation, by the one or more servers of a group-based communication platform, of one or more first user interfaces on a first display of the second client, wherein the one or more first user interfaces include information associated with the channel and an invitation for the second client to be associated with the channel;
