Abstract

Content such as advertisements received into a mobile device may be more appropriately displayed on an alternative device remote from the mobile device. When ad content is received into the mobile device, the user may perform a physical gesture such as movement of the device or an associated motion sensor. The physical gesture is analyzed in the mobile device and causes the ad content to be redirected to the remote device. Additional physical gestures by the user can be interpreted in the mobile device to manipulate the content on the remote device.

Claims (58)

1. A method, comprising:

identifying, by a mobile device, that automatic redirection preferences do not exist for one or more content parameters of content received by a mobile device from a content server;

in response to the identifying, receiving a user gesture by the mobile device;

providing, by the mobile device, a redirection instruction associated with the user gesture to the content server, the redirection instruction identifying an external device to which the content is to be redirected from the mobile device; and

manipulating, by the mobile device, a better quality version of the content on the external device, wherein the better quality version of the content is provided to the external device from the content server in response to the redirection instruction.

2. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

identifying one or more formatting parameters for the content from the redirection instruction; and

presenting the content on the external device in accordance with the one or more formatting parameters.

3. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

detecting, by the mobile device, a second user gesture;

identifying, by the mobile device, a manipulation instruction associated with the second user gesture, and

wherein the manipulating further comprises:

manipulating, by the mobile device, the better quality version of the content based on the manipulation instruction.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the redirection instruction comprises:

one or more formatting preferences for presenting the better quality version of the content on the external device.

5. The method of claim 1 , comprising:

associating the redirection instruction with the one or more content parameters to generate an association; and

storing the association in a gesture preference datastore.

6. The method of claim 5 , comprising:

receiving, by the mobile device, second content by the mobile device;

identifying, by the mobile device, one or more second content parameters of the second content;

retrieving, by the mobile device, the one or more second content parameters from the gesture preference datastore;

redirecting, by the mobile device, the second content in accordance with the retrieved one or more redirection preferences.

7. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

storing the user gesture in a redirection preferences datastore; and

correlating the user gesture with the redirection instruction.

8. The method of claim 1 , comprising:

invoking a preference recording application that enables a user to record a gesture-based preference.

9. The method of claim 5 , wherein the gesture preference datastore comprises a memory of the mobile device.

10. The method of claim 1 , wherein the receiving the user gesture by the mobile device further comprises:

detecting a motion of the mobile device.

11. The method of claim 1 , wherein the receiving the user gesture by the mobile device further comprises:

detecting the user gesture by a device remote from the mobile device; and

receiving, by the mobile device, the detected gesture from the remote device.

12. The method of claim 11 , wherein the receiving the user gesture by the mobile device further comprises:

detecting an eye movement of a user of the mobile device.

13. The method of claim 1 , wherein the manipulating a better quality version of the content on the external device further comprises:

detecting, by the mobile device, a second gesture; and

manipulating, by the mobile device, the content on the external device based on the second gesture.

14. A mobile device, comprising:

a processor that when executing instructions stored in an associated memory is configured to:

identify that automatic redirection preferences do not exist for one or more content parameters of content received by a mobile device from a content server;

in response to the identification, receive a user gesture by the mobile device;

provide a redirection instruction associated with the user gesture to the content server, the redirection instruction identifying an external device to which the content is to be redirected from the mobile device; and

manipulate a better quality version of the content on the external device, wherein the better quality version of the content is provided to the external device from the content server in response to the redirection instruction.

15. The mobile device of claim 14 , comprising;

a memory that stores a plurality of gesture-based preferences.

16. The mobile device of claim 14 , wherein, when the processor is configured to manipulate a better quality version of the content on the external device, the processor is further configured to:

detect a second gesture; and

manipulate the content on the external device based on the second gesture.

17. A computer readable medium comprising instructions that when executed by a processor of a mobile device cause the processor to perform:

identifying that automatic redirection preferences do not exist for one or more content parameters of content received by a mobile device from a content server;

in response to the identifying, receiving a user gesture by the mobile device;

providing a redirection instruction associated with the user gesture to the content server, the redirection instruction identifying an external device to which the content is to be redirected from the mobile device; and

manipulating a better quality version of the content on the external device, wherein the better quality version of the content is provided to the external device from the content server in response to the redirection instruction.

18. The computer readable medium of claim 17 , wherein the manipulating a better quality version of the content on the external device further comprises comprising:

detecting, by the mobile device, a second gesture; and

manipulating the content on the external device based on the second gesture.
