Abstract

Systems method and devices set transmit properties of wireless devices. Methods include identifying a plurality of parameters representing device parameters and operating characteristics of a wireless device, and identifying a data structure representing metric-compliant transmit properties of the wireless device across a plurality of device parameters and operating characteristics. Methods also include updating transmit properties of the wireless device based, at least in part, on the identified plurality of parameters and one or more data values included in the data structure, wherein the updating of the transmit properties updates them to be metric compliant for current operating characteristics of the wireless device.

Claims (34)

1 . A method comprising:

identifying a plurality of parameters representing device parameters and operating characteristics of a wireless device;

identifying a data structure representing metric-compliant transmit properties of the wireless device across a plurality of device parameters and operating characteristics; and

updating transmit properties of the wireless device based, at least in part, on the identified plurality of parameters and one or more data values included in the data structure, wherein the updating of the transmit properties updates them to be metric compliant for current operating characteristics of the wireless device.

2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the transmit properties comprise a transmit power of the wireless device.

3 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the transmit properties comprise a transmit mode of the wireless device or a transmit rate of the wireless device.

4 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the metric-compliant transmit properties are determined based on one or more metrics comprising a transmit range and a data rate.

5 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the device parameters and operating characteristics comprise a process split, an operating temperature, and an operating voltage of the wireless device.

6 . The method of claim 5 , wherein the data structure is a predetermined data array.

7 . The method of claim 6 , wherein the data structure represents a difference between a metric-compliant transmit power corresponding to a given operating point of the wireless device and a metric-compliant transmit power for a reference operating point.

8 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the current operating characteristics of the wireless device are determined based on one or more measurements of an operating environment of the wireless device.

9 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the wireless device is compatible with an IEEE 802.11 standard.

10 . A system comprising:

one or more antennas configured to transmit and receive data packets;

a plurality of sensors configured to obtain temperature and voltage measurements; and

a processing unit configured to:

identify a plurality of parameters representing device parameters and operating characteristics of a wireless device;

identify a data structure representing metric-compliant transmit properties of the wireless device across a plurality of device parameters and operating characteristics; and

update transmit properties of the wireless device based, at least in part, on the identified plurality of parameters and one or more data values included in the data structure, wherein the updating of the transmit properties updates them to be metric compliant for current operating characteristics of the wireless device.

11 . The system of claim 10 , wherein the transmit properties comprise a transmit power of the wireless device.

12 . The system of claim 10 , wherein the transmit properties comprise a transmit mode of the wireless device or a transmit rate of the wireless device.

13 . The system of claim 10 , wherein the metric-compliant transmit properties are determined based on one or more metrics comprising a transmit range and a data rate.

14 . The system of claim 10 , wherein the device parameters and operating characteristics comprise a process split, an operating temperature, and an operating voltage of the wireless device.

15 . The system of claim 10 , wherein the wireless device is compatible with an IEEE 802.11 standard.

16 . A device comprising:

a memory configured to store a data structure representing metric-compliant transmit properties of a wireless device across a plurality of device parameters and operating characteristics; and

a processing unit configured to:

identify a plurality of parameters representing device parameters and operating characteristics of a wireless device;

retrieve the data structure from the memory; and

update transmit properties of the wireless device based, at least in part, on the identified plurality of parameters and one or more data values included in the data structure, wherein the updating of the transmit properties updates them to be metric compliant for current operating characteristics of the wireless device.

17 . The device of claim 16 , wherein the transmit properties comprise a transmit power of the wireless device.

18 . The device of claim 16 , wherein the transmit properties comprise a transmit mode of the wireless device or a transmit rate of the wireless device.

19 . The device of claim 16 , wherein the metric-compliant transmit properties are determined based on one or more metrics comprising a transmit range and a data rate.

20 . The device of claim 16 , wherein the device parameters and operating characteristics comprise a process split, an operating temperature, and an operating voltage of the wireless device.
