Abstract

Systems, apparatuses, and methods are described which provide a camera mount system. A camera mount is in communication with a positioning device. The positioning device has a compass, gyroscope, and emits an infrared light beam. The camera mount has a sensor that receives reflected and/or scattered infrared light from a moving target. The camera mount changes its orientation based on information from its sensor, and gyroscope and compass information from the positioning device.

Claims (51)

1. A system, comprising:

a camera mount that includes a motor and a camera platform; and

a positioning device configured to move, independent of movement of the camera mount, an aim point at which the positioning device is directed; and

wherein the motor of the camera mount is configured to orient the camera platform of the camera mount to follow the aim point at which the positioning device is aimed;

wherein the positioning device is coupled to the camera mount via a communication link;

wherein the positioning device includes a gyroscope and is configured to send gyroscope information to the camera mount via the communication link; and

wherein the camera mount comprises a processor configured to determine, based on the gyroscope information received from the positioning device, a position of a target at which the aim point of the positioning device is directed and cause the motor to orient the camera platform to face the determined position.

2. The system according to claim 1 , wherein:

the positioning device is configured to emit light at the target to which the aim point is directed; and

the camera mount comprises a sensor configured to detect the light reflected or scattered by the target; and

the motor is configured to orient the camera platform at the target based on the detected light.

3. The system according to claim 1 , wherein:

the positioning device is configured to emit infrared light at the target to which the aim point is directed;

the camera mount comprises an infrared sensor configured to detect the infrared light reflected or scattered by the target; and

the motor is configured to orient the camera platform at the target based on the detected infrared light.

4. The system according to claim 1 , wherein the positioning device is configured to be mounted on a weapon.

5. The system according to claim 1 , wherein the positioning device is configured to be operated as a handheld device.

6. The system according to claim 1 , wherein the positioning device is configured to be mounted on an object.

7. A system, comprising:

a camera mount that includes a motor and a camera platform; and

a positioning device configured to move, independent of movement of the camera mount, an aim point at which the positioning device is directed; and

wherein the motor of the camera mount is configured to orient the camera platform of the camera mount to follow the aim point at which the positioning device is aimed;

wherein the positioning device is coupled to the camera mount via a communication link;

wherein the positioning device includes a compass and is configured to send compass information to the camera mount via the communication link; and

wherein the camera mount comprises a processor configured to determine, based on the compass information received from the positioning device, a position of a target at which the aim point of the positioning device is directed and cause the motor to orient the camera platform to face the determined position.

8. The system according to claim 7 , wherein the positioning device is configured to emit a light that is reflected or scattered by the target at which the aim point of the positioning device is directed.

9. The system according to claim 8 , wherein the light includes an infrared light.

10. The system according to claim 8 , wherein the positioning device is configured to receive the light that is reflected or scattered by the target and determine a position of the target.

11. The system according to claim 10 , wherein:

the positioning device is configured to send the position of the target to the camera mount via the communication link.

12. The system according to claim 11 , wherein the motor of the camera mount is configured to use the position of the target received from the positioning device to orient the camera platform at the target.

13. The system according to claim 8 , wherein the positioning device is configured to receive the light that is reflected or scattered by the target and determine one or both of a movement direction and a speed of the target.

14. The system according to claim 13 , wherein the positioning device is configured to send one or both of the movement direction and the speed of the target to the camera mount.

15. The system according to claim 13 , wherein the camera mount is configured to use one or both of the movement direction and the speed of the target received from the positioning device to orient the camera platform to face the target.

16. The system according to claim 8 , wherein:

the camera mount comprises a sensor configured to receive the light that is reflected or scattered by the target; and

the camera mount comprises a processor configured to determine a position of the target based on the received light and cause the motor of the camera mount to orient the camera platform to face the determined position of the target.

17. The system according to claim 8 , wherein:

the camera mount comprises a sensor configured to receive the light that is reflected or scattered by the target; and

the camera mount comprises a processor configure to determine one or both of a movement direction and a speed of the target based on the received light and cause the motor of the camera mount to orient the camera platform based on one or both of the determined movement direction and the determined speed of the target.

18. A system, comprising:

a camera mount that includes a motor and a camera platform; and

a positioning device configured to move, independent of movement of the camera mount, an aim point at which the positioning device is directed; and

wherein the motor of the camera mount is configured to orient the camera platform of the camera mount to follow the aim point at which the positioning device is aimed;

wherein the positioning device is coupled to the camera mount via a communication link;

wherein the positioning device includes a gyroscope and a compass and is configured to send gyroscope information and compass information to the camera mount via the communication link; and

wherein the camera mount comprises a processor configured to determine, based on the gyroscope information and the compass information received from the positioning device, a position of a target at which the aim point of the positioning device is directed and cause the motor to orient the camera platform to face the determined position.

19. The system according to claim 18 , wherein the positioning device is configured to emit a light that is reflected or scattered by the target at which the aim point of the positioning device is directed.

20. The system according to claim 19 , wherein:

the camera mount comprises a sensor configured to receive the light that is reflected or scattered by the target; and

the camera mount comprises a processor configured to determine a position of the target based on the received light and cause the motor of the camera mount to orient the camera platform to face the determined position of the target.
