Abstract

Disclosed herein is a golf club head comprising at least one crown opening and at least one crown insert attached to the body and covering the at least one crown opening. The golf club head further comprises at least one sole opening and at least one sole insert attached to the body and covering the at least one sole opening. The golf club head additionally includes at least one weight member configured to clamp first and second ledges at selected locations along a sliding weight track. The golf club head also comprise a coefficient of restitution (COR) feature located on the sole of the golf club head. The at least one crown insert is formed from a composite material having a density between 1 g/cc and 2 g/cc. The at least one sole insert is formed from a composite material having a density between 1 g/cc and 2 g/cc.

Claims (57)

1. A golf club head comprising:

a body comprising a face, a crown, and a sole together defining an interior cavity of the golf club head, wherein the body further comprises:

a crown opening and a crown insert covering the crown opening, wherein the crown insert is made of a fiber-reinforced composite material;

a sole opening and a sole insert covering the sole opening, wherein the sole insert is made of a fiber-reinforced composite material;

a recess located on the sole between the face and the sole opening; and

a weight port formed in the sole at a location rearward of the sole opening;

a first weight made of a first material having a first density greater than a density of the body, wherein the first weight is at least partially positioned within the recess; and

a second weight made of a second material having a second density greater than the density of the body, wherein the second weight is seated within the weight port,

wherein a ratio of Ixx to Izz, where Ixx is a moment of inertia of the golf club head about a horizontal x-axis of the golf club head that passes through a center of gravity (CG) of the golf club head and Izz is a moment of inertia of the golf club head about a vertical z-axis of the golf club head that passes through the CG of the golf club head, is at least 0.62.

2. The golf club head according to claim 1 , wherein a surface area of the crown insert is greater than a surface area of the sole insert.

3. The golf club head according to claim 1 , wherein:

the body is made of a titanium alloy; and

the first weight is made of a steel alloy.

4. The golf club head according to claim 1 , wherein:

the body further comprises:

a hosel; and

a heel opening formed in the sole of the body and located in a heel portion of the golf club head, wherein the heel opening is configured to receive a fastening member; and

the golf club head further comprises a head-shaft connection system including a sleeve and the fastening member, wherein the sleeve is configured to be secured by the fastening member in a locked position, and wherein the head-shaft connection system is configured to allow the golf club head to be adjustably attachable to a golf club shaft in a plurality of different positions resulting in an adjustability range of different combinations of loft angle, face angle, or lie angle.

5. The golf club head according to claim 1 , wherein a combined mass of the first weight and the second weight exceeds a combined mass of the crown insert and the sole insert.

6. The golf club head according to claim 1 , wherein the first weight has a square shape.

7. The golf club head according to claim 1 , wherein the recess comprises a channel and the first weight is at least partially positioned within the channel.

8. The golf club head according to claim 1 , wherein the recess comprises a through-slot open to the interior cavity and the first weight is at least partially positioned within the through-slot.

9. The golf club head according to claim 1 , further comprising a polymeric material at least partially filling the recess.

10. The golf club head according to claim 9 , wherein the first weight is non-movably fixed relative to the recess so that a position of the first weight relative to the recess is not adjustable.

11. The golf club head according to claim 10 , wherein the second weight is non-movably fixed relative to the weight port so that a position of the second weight relative to the weight port is not adjustable.

12. The golf club head according to claim 1 , wherein:

the body further comprises a hosel that defines a hosel axis; and

a plane, parallel to a heel-to-toe direction along the golf club head, perpendicular to a forward-to-rearward direction along the golf club head, and in which the hosel axis lies, intersects the recess.

13. The golf club head according to claim 1 , wherein:

the body further comprises a hosel that defines a hosel axis; and

at least a portion of the recess is forward of a plane parallel to a heel-to-toe direction along the golf club head, perpendicular to a forward-to-rearward direction along the golf club head, and in which the hosel axis lies.

14. The golf club head according to claim 1 , wherein:

the body further comprises a crown-opening recessed ledge extending about crown opening; and

the crown insert is in seated engagement with the crown-opening recessed ledge.

15. The golf club head according to claim 14 , wherein:

the body further comprises a sole-opening recessed ledge extending about sole opening; and

the sole insert is in seated engagement with the sole-opening recessed ledge.

16. The golf club head according to claim 15 , wherein:

each one of the crown insert and the sole insert has a thickness ranging from about 0.195 mm to about 0.9 mm; and

each one of the crown insert and the sole insert is comprised of at least four plies of uni-tape standard modulus graphite being oriented at any combination of 0°, +45°, −45° and 90°.

17. The golf club head according to claim 1 , wherein:

the recess has a length and is offset an offset distance from a leading edge of the golf club head;

the offset distance is a minimum distance from the leading edge of the golf club head to the recess; and

a ratio of the length of the recess to the offset distance is greater than 4 and less than 15 and the offset distance is no less than 4 mm and no more than 12.5 mm.

18. The golf club head according to claim 1 , wherein a total length of the recess is between, and inclusive of, 75 mm and 95 mm.
