Abstract

A vehicle cover assembly comprising; a flexible cover; one or more side rails; and a fastener assembly that is secured to a vehicle bed comprising; a cover fastener that is on one or more edge regions of the flexible cover; and a side rail fastener with one or more rows of fasteners comprising; a plurality of dual hooks on the base that releasably connect with the cover fastener of the flexible cover; and a plurality of spacers between the plurality of dual hooks.

Claims (24)

1. A fastener assembly adapted to be secured to a vehicle bed, comprising;

(i) a cover fastener that is adapted to be secured near an edge of a cover; and

(ii) a side rail fastener adapted to mount to a side rail of the vehicle bed, wherein the side rail fastener includes a row of fasteners comprising:

(1) dual hooks that releasably connect with the cover fastener, wherein the dual hooks each include a connection lip; and

(2) a spacer positioned adjacent to the dual hooks, the spacer having side edges that are lateral bounds of the spacer, wherein the connection lip of each dual hook extends laterally beyond at least one of the side edges.

2. The fastener assembly of claim 1 , wherein the dual hooks each includes a top edge, and the spacer includes an upper surface.

3. The fastener assembly of claim 2 , wherein the upper surface of the spacer is elevated above the top edge of the dual hooks so that a force is required to engage the fastener assembly.

4. The fastener assembly of claim 1 , wherein the cover fastener includes a base and a strip of loop fasteners.

5. The fastener assembly of claim 1 , wherein the fastener assembly includes four or more dual hooks for every spacer.

6. The fastener assembly of claim 1 , wherein the fastener assembly includes a support structure that connects and supports the dual hooks and the spacer.

7. The fastener assembly of claim 6 , wherein the support structure is located below a top edge of the dual hooks to allow for connection between the dual hooks and the cover fastener.

8. The fastener assembly of claim 1 , wherein each of the dual hooks includes a front hook and a rear hook both extending in a first direction.

9. The fastener assembly of claim 1 , wherein the spacer and the dual hooks are parallel.

10. The fastener assembly of claim 8 , wherein the side rail fastener includes opposing dual hooks having a front hook and a rear hook both extending in an opposing second direction.

11. The fastener assembly of claim 10 , wherein the dual hooks and the opposing dual hooks alternate within the row of fasteners.

12. The fastener assembly of claim 11 , wherein a ratio of the dual hooks and the opposing dual hooks is 1:1 or more.

13. The fastener assembly of claim 6 , wherein the spacer, the dual hooks, and the support structure are molded together.

14. The fastener assembly of claim 10 , wherein the rear hook of the dual hooks and the rear hook of the opposing dual hooks extend toward each other.

15. The fastener assembly of claim 14 , wherein the front hook of the dual hooks and the front hook of the opposing dual hooks extend away from each other.

16. The fastener assembly of claim 4 , wherein the strip of loop fasteners releasably connects to the dual hooks of the side rail fastener.

17. The fastener assembly of claim 11 , wherein the cover fastener includes a strip of loop fasteners that releasably connects to the dual hooks and the opposing dual hooks of the side rail fastener.

18. The fastener assembly of claim 1 , wherein a base of the side rail fastener is adapted to be secured by opposing flanges of the side rail.

19. The fastener assembly of claim 18 , wherein the row of fasteners is adapted to be positioned substantially perpendicular to the opposing flanges.

20. The fastener assembly of claim 10 , wherein the side rail fastener includes a support structure that extends along a length of the side rail fastener to interconnect the dual hooks and the opposing dual hooks.
