Abstract

Devices and methods divert blood flow from a first vessel to a second vessel and maintain blood flow in the first vessel. The device includes a first segment and a second segment. The first segment is configured to anchor in the first vessel. The first segment includes a window to allow blood to flow into the first segment, through the window, and distal in the first vessel. The second segment is configured to anchor in the second vessel. The second segment is configured to allow blood to flow into the first segment, through the second segment, and into the second vessel.

Claims (43)

1 . A device for diverting blood flow from a first vessel to a second vessel while maintaining blood flow in the first vessel, the device comprising:

a stent structure extending along a length from a proximal end to a distal end and having a repeating circumferential cell structure along the length comprising rings, wherein the stent structure is embedded within a graft, and wherein the stent structure comprises:

a first segment extending from the proximal end and configured to be anchored in the first vessel, wherein the first vessel comprises an artery, wherein the first segment is configured to receive blood flow through the proximal end, and wherein the first segment comprises a window configured to allow a first portion of the blood flow into the first segment to flow through the window and out of the first segment distally into the first vessel to maintain blood flow in the first vessel;

a second segment extending from the distal end and configured to be positioned in the second vessel, wherein the second vessel comprises a vein, and wherein the second segment is configured to receive a second portion of the blood flow from the first segment and route the second portion of the blood flow through the second segment and out of the distal end distally into the second vessel; and

a third segment positioned between the first segment and the second segment, wherein, with the stent structure in an unconstrained expanded state—

the first segment has a first diameter adjacent the third segment,

the second segment has a second diameter adjacent the third segment larger than the first diameter, and

the third segment has a third diameter that tapers from the first diameter to the second diameter.

2 . The device of claim 1 , wherein the window is formed during a manufacturing process.

3 . The device of claim 1 , wherein the window is formed in situ.

4 . The device of claim 3 , wherein a portion of the graft along the first segment is puncturable to form the window.

5 . The device of claim 1 , wherein the first segment comprises a flap configured to open radially outward to allow the first portion of the blood flow in the first segment to flow through the window.

6 . The device of claim 1 , wherein the first segment comprises a plurality of slits configured to open and to form the window upon bending of the first segment.

7 . A device for diverting blood flow from a first vessel to a second vessel while maintaining blood flow in the first vessel, the device comprising:

a stent structure extending along a length from a proximal end to a distal end and having a repeating circumferential cell structure along the length, wherein the stent structure is embedded within a graft, and wherein the stent structure comprises:

a first segment extending from the proximal end and configured to be anchored in the first vessel, wherein the first vessel comprises an artery, wherein the first segment is configured to receive blood flow through the proximal end, and wherein the first segment comprises a window configured to allow a first portion of the blood flow into the first segment to flow through the window and out of the first segment distally into the first vessel to maintain blood flow in the first vessel;

a second segment comprising a second portion of the stent structure and extending from the distal end and configured to be positioned in the second vessel, wherein the second vessel comprises a vein, and wherein the second segment is configured to receive a second portion of the blood flow from the first segment and route the second portion of the blood flow through the second segment and out of the distal end distally into the second vessel; and

a third segment positioned between the first segment and the second segment, wherein, with the stent structure in an unconstrained expanded state—

the first segment has a first diameter adjacent the third segment,

the second segment has a second diameter adjacent the third segment larger than the first diameter, and

the third segment has a third diameter that tapers from the first diameter to the second diameter.

8 . The device of claim 1 , further comprising a radiopaque marker positioned along the first segment adjacent to the window to indicate a position and/or orientation of the window.

9 . The device of claim 7 , wherein the window is formed during a manufacturing process.

10 . The device of claim 7 , wherein the window is formed in situ.

11 . The device of claim 10 , wherein a portion of the first segment is puncturable to form the window.

12 . The device of claim 7 , wherein the first segment comprises a flap configured to open radially outward to allow the first portion of the blood flow in the first segment to flow through the window.

13 . The device of claim 7 , wherein the first segment comprises a plurality of slits configured to open and to form the window upon bending of the first segment.

14 . A device for diverting blood flow from a first vessel to a second vessel while maintaining blood flow in the first vessel, the device comprising:

a stent structure extending along a length from a proximal end to a distal end, the stent structure embedded within a graft, and wherein the stent structure comprises:

a first segment extending from the proximal end and configured to be anchored in the first vessel, the first segment configured to allow a first portion of blood flow into the first segment to flow out of the first segment distally into the first vessel to maintain blood flow in the first vessel;

a second segment extending from the distal end and configured to be positioned in the second vessel, wherein the second segment is configured to receive a second portion of the blood flow from the first segment and route the second portion of the blood flow, through the second segment and out of the distal end distally into the second vessel; and

a third segment positioned between the first segment and the second segment, wherein, with the stent structure in an unconstrained expanded state—

the first segment has a first diameter adjacent the third segment,

the second segment has a second diameter adjacent the third segment larger than the first diameter, and

the third segment has a third diameter that tapers from the first diameter to the second diameter.

15 . The device of claim 14 , wherein a window is formed during a manufacturing process.

16 . The device of claim 14 , wherein a window is formed in situ.

17 . The device of claim 16 , wherein a portion of the graft along the first segment is puncturable to form the window.

18 . The device of claim 14 , wherein the first segment comprises a flap configured to open radially outward to allow the first portion of the blood flow in the first segment to flow through a window.

19 . The device of claim 14 , wherein the first segment comprises a plurality of slits configured to open and to form a window upon bending of the first segment.

20 . The device of claim 14 , wherein the stent structure comprises rings along the length.

21 . The device of claim 14 , wherein the first segment further comprises a branch configured to be positioned in a branch vessel of the first vessel.

22 . The device of claim 14 , wherein a cell pattern density of the stent structure corresponding to the third segment is less dense than a cell pattern density of the stent structure corresponding to at least one of the first segment or the second segment.
