Abstract

Aspects of the present disclosure relate a head-worn computer with a see-through display wherein computer content is presented to a user wearing the head-worn computer and through which the user sees a surrounding environment, wherein the see-through display generates image light comprised of narrow bandwidths of red, green and blue light and wherein the see-through display further includes a tristimulus notch mirror positioned to reflect the image light towards the user's eye, and wherein the tristimulus notch mirror reflects less than a full width half max of the red image light.

Claims (38)

1. A wearable device, comprising:

a light source configured to generate image light comprising a first bandwidth of light, the first bandwidth of light centered at a first wavelength and having a full width at half maximum (FWHM) equal to a first value; and

a notch mirror configured to receive at least a portion of the image light and further configured to receive environmental light,

wherein:

the notch mirror is further configured to substantially reflect a second bandwidth of light toward an eye of a user, the second bandwidth of light centered at the first wavelength and having a FWHM equal to a second value less than the first value,

the environmental light comprises light rays having a second wavelength,

the second wavelength differs from the first wavelength by a third value greater than the second value and less than the first value, and

the notch mirror is further configured to substantially transmit the light rays having the second wavelength toward the eye of the user.

2. The wearable device of claim 1 , wherein the light source comprises a light emitting diode (LED).

3. The wearable device of claim 1 , wherein:

the wearable device further comprises a notch filter configured to receive the image light from the light source; and

receiving at least the portion of the image light comprises receiving the portion of the image light via the notch filter.

4. The wearable device of claim 1 , further comprising a combiner, wherein the combiner comprises the notch mirror.

5. The wearable device of claim 4 , wherein the combiner comprises a first surface that comprises the notch mirror.

6. The wearable device of claim 5 , wherein the first surface comprises a curved surface.

7. The wearable device of claim 1 , wherein receiving at least the portion of the image light comprises receiving the portion of the image light at an angle of incidence that is substantially normal to a surface of the notch mirror.

8. The wearable device of claim 1 , wherein the environmental light comprises light emitted by an artificial light source and the second wavelength corresponds to a wavelength of light emitted by the artificial light source.

9. The wearable device of claim 8 , wherein the artificial light source comprises a traffic control signal.

10. The wearable device of claim 8 , wherein the artificial light source comprises a vehicle light source.

11. A method comprising:

receiving, at a notch mirror of a wearable device, at least a portion of image light, wherein:

the image light is generated by a light source of the wearable device,

the first bandwidth of light is centered at a first wavelength, and

the first bandwidth of light has a full width at half maximum (FWHM) equal to a first value;

receiving environmental light at the notch mirror, the environmental light comprising light rays having a second wavelength;

at the notch mirror, substantially reflecting a second bandwidth of light toward an eye of a user, the second bandwidth of light centered at the first wavelength and having a FWHM equal to a second value less than the first value; and

at the notch mirror, substantially transmitting the light rays having the second wavelength toward the eye of the user.

12. The method of claim 11 , wherein the light source comprises a light emitting diode (LED).

13. The method of claim 11 , wherein:

the wearable device further comprises a notch filter configured to receive the image light from the light source; and

receiving at least the portion of the image light at the notch mirror comprises receiving the portion of the image light at the notch mirror via the notch filter.

14. The method of claim 11 , wherein the wearable device comprises a combiner, and the combiner comprises the notch mirror.

15. The method of claim 14 , wherein the combiner comprises a first surface that comprises the notch mirror.

16. The method of claim 15 , wherein the first surface comprises a curved surface.

17. The method of claim 11 , wherein receiving at least the portion of the image light comprises receiving the portion of the image light at an angle of incidence that is substantially normal to a surface of the notch mirror.

18. The method of claim 11 , wherein the environmental light comprises light emitted by an artificial light source and the second wavelength corresponds to a wavelength of light emitted by the artificial light source.

19. The method of claim 18 , wherein the artificial light source comprises a traffic control signal.

20. The method of claim 18 , wherein the artificial light source comprises a vehicle light source.
