Abstract

Exemplary embodiments of methods and devices for obtaining more accurate hand hygiene compliance metrics are disclosed herein. An exemplary device or badge for a hygiene compliance system includes a housing; a processor located in the housing; memory in circuit communication with the processor; wireless communication circuitry in circuit communication with the processor; and an additional time input in circuit communication with the processor.

Claims (61)

1. A badge for a hygiene compliance system comprising;

a housing;

a processor located in the housing;

memory in circuit communication with the processor;

wireless communication circuitry in circuit communication with the processor; and

an additional time input in circuit communication with the processor;

wherein the additional time input adds an additional period of time to a selected period of time for a person to obtain a dose of product from a product dispenser and have the dispense of product qualify as a dispense event;

wherein if a dose of product is dispensed within the selected period of time including any additional periods of time, a dispense event is logged; and

wherein a number of dispense events are compared to a number of opportunities to log a dispense event to determine a compliance metric.

2. The badge of claim 1 , further comprising a second additional time input.

3. The badge of claim 2 , wherein one of the additional time input and the second additional time input is voice activated.

4. The badge of claim 2 , wherein the second additional time input adds a preset amount of additional time.

5. The badge of claim 1 , wherein the additional time input adds a preset amount of additional time, and wherein the preset amount of time is a function of the role of the person associated to the badge.

6. The badge of claim 1 , wherein the additional time input may be used a limited amount of times.

7. A system for determining hand hygiene compliance system comprising;

a badge;

the badge comprising:

a housing;

a badge processor located in the housing;

a badge memory in circuit communication with the processor;

a badge wireless communication circuitry in circuit communication with the processor; and

an additional time input in circuit communication with the processor; and

a master station;

the master station comprising:

a master station processor;

a master station communications circuitry;

a master station memory in circuit communication with the processor;

wherein a hand hygiene opportunity is occurs as a result of a user being in proximity with a designated area or a designated object;

wherein a hand hygiene dispense event occurs if the user obtains a dose of soap or sanitizer within a selected period of time of a hand hygiene opportunity;

logic for determining a hand hygiene compliance metric utilizing one or more hand hygiene dispense events and one or more hand hygiene opportunities; and

logic for extending the selected period of time if the additional time input has been activated.

8. The system of claim 7 , further comprising logic for extending the selected time period a second time if the additional time input has been activated a second time.

9. The system of claim 7 , further comprising logic for not extending the selected time period the additional time input has been activated more than a selected number of times.

10. The system of claim 7 , further comprising logic for not extending the selected time period as a function the additional time input being activated more than a selected number of times and as a function of the person's role.

11. The system of claim 7 , further comprising a display for displaying the hand hygiene compliance metric.

12. The system of claim 7 , wherein the badge comprises a second additional time input.

13. The system of claim 7 , wherein the additional time input adds a preset amount of time to the allowable time between an opportunity event and a dispense event.

14. The system of claim 7 , wherein the additional time input adds a preset amount of time to the allowable time between an opportunity event and a dispense event, and wherein the additional preset amount of time is a function of the role of the person associated to the badge.

15. The system of claim 7 , wherein the hand hygiene opportunity is determined as a function of the entry event and/or the exit event and the opportunity is a function of the role of the person;

wherein if the role of the person is a first role, an opportunity is triggered each time the person enters or exits the designated area; and

wherein if the role of the person is a second role, an opportunity is not triggered each time the person enters or exits the designated area.

16. A hand hygiene compliance system comprising:

a portable housing;

a processor located in the portable housing;

memory in circuit communication with the processor;

wireless communication circuitry in circuit communication with the processor; and

an additional time input in circuit communication with the processor;

wherein a dispense event occurs if a user obtains a dose of product from a product dispenser within a selected period of time after triggering a hand hygiene opportunity;

wherein the additional time input provides a signal to the processor indicative of a request for additional time to for the user to obtain a hand hygiene dispense event; and

wherein if a dose of product is dispensed within the selected period of time, or within the additional time, a dispense event is logged; and

a master station;

the master station having

a master station processor;

memory;

logic for determining a compliance metric;

wherein the compliance metric is a comparison of a number of dispense events and a number of opportunities to obtain a dispense event; and

a display for displaying the compliance metric.

17. The system of claim 16 , further comprising logic for allowing the additional time input to provide the person with additional time a selected number of times within an overall period of time.

18. The system of claim 17 , wherein the selected number of times is a function of the role of the person.

19. The system of claim 16 , wherein the portable housing is in the form of a badge.

20. The system of claim 16 , further comprising a second additional time input.
