Abstract

A multi-window user interface (UI) is presented in various configurations and operational uses to leverage the relatively large display canvas afforded by large screen display devices such as 4K or 8K displays. Along with the various “Multiview” aspects, content delivery techniques, content selection techniques, and level of service techniques also are presented.

Claims (45)

1. An apparatus comprising:

a display; and

at least one processor configured to:

receive a selection of a template that defines tiles of content being displayed simultaneously on the display, wherein the template defines a layout of the tiles and content type for each tile;

receive content from respective sources of content;

organize the content into the tiles for simultaneous presentation based on the content types,

present the tiles simultaneously on the display;

receive an additional content without specifying a tile; and

present the additional content by dynamically adjusting a size for each tile.

2. The apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein the at least one processor further configured to store a state of the tiles when presenting the content is discontinued.

3. The apparatus according to claim 2 , wherein the at least one processor further configured to store a name of the state of the tiles.

4. The apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein the tiles are controlled independently for sound or move content to different tiles.

5. The apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein the at least one processor further configured to:

receive a user operation of causing a tile to be presented full screen; and

present the selected tile in full screen in response to the user operation.

6. The apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein the at least one processor further configured to:

receive a user operation of resizing one or more tiles;

expand or contract the other tiles in response to the user operation.

7. The apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein

at least one of the tiles is given priority such that a particular tile receives new content; and

the at least one processor further configured to present the additional content in the particular tile.

8. The apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein the at least one processor further configured to deliver an audio channel selected for a tile to an external audio device.

9. The apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein the content includes at least one of a web page, a photo, a video, an application, and a TV channel.

10. A method comprising:

receiving a selection of a template that defines tiles of content being displayed simultaneously on a display, wherein the template defines a layout of the tiles and content type for each tile;

receiving content from respective sources of content;

organizing the content into the tiles for simultaneous presentation based on the content types,

presenting the tiles simultaneously on the display;

receiving an additional content without specifying a tile; and

presenting the additional content by dynamically adjusting a size for each tile.

11. The method of claim 10 , comprising storing a state of the tiles when presenting the content is discontinued.

12. The method of claim 11 , comprising storing a name of the state of the tiles.

13. The method of claim 10 , comprising:

controlling the tiles independently for sound; or

moving content to different tiles; or

controlling the tiles independently for sound and moving content to different tiles.

14. The method of claim 10 , comprising:

receiving a user operation of causing a tile to be presented full screen; and

presenting the selected tile in full screen in response to the user operation.

15. The method of claim 10 , comprising:

receiving a user operation of resizing one or more tiles; and

expanding or contracting the other tiles in response to the user operation.

16. The method of claim 10 , wherein at least one of the tiles is given priority such that a particular tile receives new content, and the method comprises presenting the additional content in the particular tile.

17. The method of claim 10 , comprising delivering an audio channel selected for a tile to an external audio device.

18. The method of claim 10 , wherein the content includes at least one of a web page, a photo, a video, an application, and a TV channel.
