Abstract

In a 5G or 6G network with high traffic density, wireless users are often forced to delay important transmissions, to avoid interference with other users. For enhanced efficiency and reduced overall latency, a base station can provide an uplink grant to the waiting user before the mandated delay has expired, thereby avoiding wasted time and wasted resources. The base station can determine which user has waited the longest time, and can provide the grant to that longest-delayed user. Message priority and length, and other factors, can also be considered in selecting which user to accelerate, depending on network rules. By allowing a delayed user to immediately transmit when conditions allow, the base station can reduce the average delay per message transmission, assist users in uploading their messages, and enhance network efficiency generally.

Claims (33)

1. A local area network (LAN) comprising a base station and a plurality of nodes in signal communication with the base station, wherein each node is programmed to:

a. transmit, to the base station, a transmission request message requesting permission to transmit a data message,

b. begin a backoff delay;

c. during the backoff delay, receive a permission message providing permission to transmit the data message;

d. responsive to the permission message, terminate the backoff delay and transmit the data message; and

e. receive an acknowledgement message indicating whether the data message was receive; and

f. wherein each node of the plurality of nodes is further programmed to indicate, in the transmission request message, at least one of:

i. an amount of chronological time elapsed while the node was prevented from transmitting;

ii. how many backoff delays the node has experienced after successfully completing a previous data message transmission; and

iii. how long the node has been in backoff delays after successfully completing the previous data message transmission.

2. The LAN of claim 1 , wherein the transmission request message is transmitted according to 5G or 6G technology.

3. The LAN of claim 1 , wherein each node of the plurality of nodes is further programmed to indicate, in the transmission request message, at least one of:

a. a number of backoff delays experienced by the node after receiving an acknowledgement message;

b. an amount of time spent by the node in backoff delays after receiving an acknowledgement message;

c. an amount of chronological time elapsed after an initial transmission attempt by the node;

d. a quality of service (QoS) associated with the node;

e. a priority level associated with the node;

f. a length of the data message;

g. a number of message fragments in the data message;

h. an indication of an emergency; and

i. combinations thereof.

4. The LAN of claim 1 , wherein each node of the plurality is further programmed to indicate, in the transmission request message, a priority level of the data message.

The LAN of claim 1 , wherein each node of the plurality of nodes is further programmed to detect another transmission request message, transmitted by another node, and to responsively refrain from transmitting for a particular period of time, the particular period of time being less than or equal to a sum of a predetermined length of a permission message plus a predetermined listen-before-talk interval.

6. The LAN of claim 1 , wherein each node of the plurality of nodes is further programmed to perform a method comprising:

a. transmitting a particular data message;

b. after transmitting the particular data message, receiving a particular permission message, and responsively retransmitting the particular data message;

c. upon receiving an acknowledgement message, determining that the particular data message was received; and

d. upon failing to receive the particular permission message and failing to receive the acknowledgement message within a predetermined listening interval, initiating a backoff delay, and then transmitting another transmission request message when the backoff delay expires.

7. The LAN of claim 1 wherein:

a. a message comprises an integer number of fragments;

b. a specific node, of the plurality of nodes, is configured to indicate, in the transmission request message, the number of fragments;

c. the base station is configured to indicate, in the permission message, a particular fragment of the plurality of fragments; and

d. the specific node is configured to transmit the particular fragment.
