Abstract

An adapter block assembly includes an adapter block, a circuit board arrangement, and a cover attached to the adapter block so that the circuit board arrangement is held to the adapter block by the cover. Contact assemblies can be disposed between the adapter block and the circuit board arrangement. The cover can be latched, heat staked, or otherwise secured to the adapter block. Each component of the adapter block assembly can include one or more parts (e.g., multiple adapter blocks, multiple circuit boards, and/or multiple cover pieces).

Claims (35)

1. An adapter arrangement comprising:

a housing having a closed bottom extending between opposite first and second sides and between a front and a rear to define an interior, the housing defining an open top opposite the bottom;

a plurality of front ports disposed at the front of the housing;

a plurality of rear ports disposed at the rear of the housing;

a mechanical engagement member carried at an exterior of the first side of the housing;

a cover mounted to the housing to cover the open top; and

a circuit board disposed within the interior of the housing, the circuit board including a circuit board connector extending through a bottom of the housing.

2. The adapter arrangement of claim 1 , wherein the front and rear ports are defined by the housing.

3. The adapter arrangement of claim 1 , wherein the mechanical engagement member is a first mechanical engagement member and wherein a second mechanical engagement member is disposed at an exterior of the second side of the housing.

4. The adapter arrangement of claim 1 , wherein the mechanical engagement member includes a ramped section.

5. The adapter arrangement of claim 1 , wherein the circuit board connector includes a plurality of electrical conductors.

6. The adapter arrangement of claim 1 , wherein the housing defines the front ports and the rear ports.

7. The adapter arrangement of claim 1 , further comprising a plurality of presence sensors disposed at the front ports.

8. The adapter arrangement of claim 7 , wherein the presence sensors are disposed on the circuit board.

9. The adapter arrangement of claim 7 , wherein the presence sensors are electrically coupled to the circuit board connector.

10. The adapter arrangement of claim 1 , wherein the cover latches to the housing.

11. A tray arrangement comprising:

a tray including:

a base having side rails at opposite sides of the base; and

a plurality of laterally aligned mounting structures carried by the base; and

an adapter arrangement mounted to the tray, the adapter arrangement including:

a housing;

a plurality of front ports disposed at a front of the housing;

a plurality of rear ports disposed at a rear of the housing;

a mechanical engagement member carried at an exterior of a first side of the housing, the first side extending between the front and the rear; and

a circuit board disposed within an interior of the housing, the circuit board including a circuit board connector extending through a bottom of the housing.

12. The tray arrangement of claim 11 , wherein the adapter arrangement also includes a cover mounted to the housing so that the circuit board is disposed between the bottom of the housing and the cover.

13. The tray arrangement of claim 11 , wherein the circuit board connector is configured to connect the circuit board to a second circuit board mounted to the tray.

14. The tray arrangement of claim 11 , wherein the adapter arrangement is slidingly mounted to the tray.

15. The tray arrangement of claim 14 , wherein the mechanical engagement member is configured to slide into a receptacle carried by the tray.

16. The tray arrangement of claim 11 , wherein the adapter arrangement is configured to latch to the tray.

17. The adapter arrangement of claim 1 , further comprising a plurality of presence sensors disposed at the front ports.

18. The adapter arrangement of claim 17 , wherein the presence sensors are disposed on the circuit board.

19. The adapter arrangement of claim 17 , wherein the presence sensors are electrically coupled to the circuit board connector.

20. The adapter arrangement of claim 11 , wherein the housing defines the front ports and the rear ports.
